Website creation tools

I am going back into the website business.

I used to do all of my coding in notepad. I have learned that although it is great to be able to do the code by hand, it is much quicker to use pre-made tools. So I am gathering up a list of programs that are good for web dev.

So far I have the following programs:

Dreamweaver
GIMP
Photoshop
Filezilla (for FTP)
Editpad (lightweight pure text editor)
Sun's Java Dev Kit
Firefox and IE (for previewing pages)
Putty (ssh/telnet client)
SSH Secure Shell (SSH client/file transfer)

Please reply with your suggestions of other web tools that you would recommend using and why you like the app.

Also include the names of any good Photoshop or GIMP plugins that you know of and where I can get them.

You've got Photoshop and Dreamweaver so you're good. Get a bunch of brushes and fonts.

I like microsoft front page better than dreamweaver, but both of those are the best, and as said before, adobe is the best for image editing/gfx making, i personally like Cute FTP, for ftp, it just seems easy to use, makes it easy to CHMOD, and you don't have to wait for directories to load like in other ftp programs

Filezilla is very nice. I just found it last week. Its very straight forward and has a good site manager (i have tons of accounts on different servers). And its quick.

WS_FTP is the greatest FTP tool ever. Flash would make great animations on your site. Imageready would help you make animated gifs. These are my suggestions.

just got WS_FTP Pro 8 the other day, havent installed it yet, but I swear by v7 or any other version for that matter.

Also Crimson editor is a great Free text editor for editing scripts.

In 2000/2001 I ran a moderatly popular wrestling website. It was mainly just commentary type shit. If it was around today, it would probably be called a blog. It was hosted on Tripod and they deleted it sometime in 2002.

I did have a copy of it on my old hard drive, but it got deleted when my younger bro allowed a German hacker to install Sub Seven on our old computer and delete a good chunk of the hd. :'(
