survivor series

Why did they get rid of it. I realy liked the idea. I did not like when they only had like one survivor series match per pay per view thats when it was gay. Sense the draft they could play out who is the better show. They could have have some great matches with some new stables.

Loose Cannon 07-14-2004 04:03 PM

Actually, my favorite old school PPV's to watch are the Survivor Series ones. I swear I must have rented Survivor Series 90 like 25 times as a kid. I loved that one. This is probably why today I'd rather watch a wrestling show with stables on them then without. But yeah, I would love to have the 4 0n 4 matches back. I loved the names they would give the teams like "Rude's Brood" "The Visionaries" "The Dream Team" "The Kings Court" "The Ultimate Team" BTW: Back then, I thought the Ultimate Team was the greatest fk'n team ever created (Warrior, LOD, Tornado) They should go back to the traditional matches as that is why the dam PPV is called Survivor Series. They should bring back that Ultimate Survivor match too.

The One 07-14-2004 04:05 PM

"Why did they get rid of it" I asume you mean Survivor Series Matches? And the answer is simple...the "Stable Wars" are done...and to throw a bunch of faces against a bunch of heels for no reason dosn't make logical sense.

I liked the matches, and I liked the event on a whole, but it just dosn't fit anynmore...in the early 90's all faces got along and all heels got along (Dumb yes, but look back and see that storyline wise this is true 90% of the time) and in the later 90's they were usful since DX, Nation, Coperation, and other groups could fight other groups...but in this dayin age it would be weird to see Cena, a guy who is kind of a loner, suddenly being happyly taging Rey Mysterio in and out...

GARAGExBANDxGEEK 07-14-2004 04:10 PM

I think they could make teams though. I dont think it would be that hard.

The Mackem 07-14-2004 04:16 PM

I liked that one, it might have been 95, when Gorilla Monsoon put everybody's name in a hat and drew out teams so you had friends on opposite teams and foes on the same team.

Loose Cannon 07-14-2004 04:19 PM

What about Bad News Brown though? He walked out on his team twice. Teams generally didn't always get along back then.

Like you could do:

Evolution vs "The Cripplers" (Benoit, Edge, Eugene, Regal)

Team Sexy Beast (Xtian, Tomko, Test and Cade) vs The Highlight of the Night(Jericho, Benjamin, Tajiri and Rhyno)

Mike the Metal Ed 07-14-2004 04:23 PM

Yeah, the Survivor Series are a perfect chance to make more teams and stables, or start new rivalries.

Loose Cannon 07-14-2004 04:23 PM

The ULTIMATE TEAM. WOOOOOO

http://www.obsessedwithwrestling.com...0/warriors.jpg

They were all champs BTW.

The Mackem 07-14-2004 04:26 PM

No they weren't

Hart Foundation were tag champs at the time

I think they were called "The Warriors" as well.

Nope...Legion of Doom is what they were called in the WWF...Road Warriors everywehere else.

The Mackem 07-14-2004 04:29 PM

I meant the team name Nick :'(

The Mackem 07-14-2004 04:29 PM

It was The Perfect Team vs the Warriors IIRC

I loved that Survivor Series.

Loose Cannon 07-14-2004 04:31 PM

AW FK, MACKEM IS RIGHT. It was the Warriors.

And they weren't tag champs eathier. god dammit. I think I actually convinced myself they were

The Mackem 07-14-2004 04:53 PM

You should make me your assistant Loose Cannon. I can get you tea, polish your shoes and point out any mistakes in your Wrestling memory.

HeartBreakMan2k 07-14-2004 04:55 PM

By the way, I swear I thought this was going to be another thread about 97

Anyway, Yeah they should bring back the old 8 man tags. I miss those, SS and The Royal Rumble were always my favorite events as a kid.

Loose Cannon 07-14-2004 04:56 PM

hold on, gonna go make a kick ass poll about this

Edit: Meh, I'll do it later.

The Ravishing One 07-14-2004 05:40 PM

I always thought that having the old school 4 on 4 Survivor Series matches back would give the World title scene a break.

The Mackem 07-14-2004 06:51 PM

Didn't they start with 5 v 5 Survivor Series?

Loose Cannon 07-14-2004 06:58 PM

Yeah at 87 and 88. At 88 there was a 10 vs 10 too

GARAGExBANDxGEEK 07-14-2004 07:25 PM

They were elimention right. That could be cool to have like one guy take on 4 guys and win. Or one person like rvd and eugen spike and some other crappy ppl and they still win. [rvd is not crappy he is the one good person in the team and he still wins]

Yup, 5 tag teams vs 5 tag teams, when one member of a team got eliminated they were both gone. Ended with a great swerve, Fuji turning against Demolition.

...um, there were no "stable wars" when the Survivor Series concept began, and it <i>was</i> pretty much a bunch of random faces vs a bunch of random heels. Of course back around 1990 there was about a 2-3 month buildup after the teams were announced, so they sort of became de facto stables, but they all went their seperate ways after the PPV was over.

Anyways, DEAR GOD I wish they'd go back to the elim matches, plus maybe a main event title match. I was ecstatic when I heard there were going to be <i>two</i> at least years Survivor Series, of course I didn't realize they were going to screw up the SD match and have half the guys eliminated within 2 goddamn minutes.

Right that was an awesome match

Sensei Of Mattitude 07-15-2004 12:47 AM

the 10 on 10 SS matches were Survivor Series matches between 5 Tag Teams vs 5 Tag Teams and once a member of a certain tag team was elimanated, his partner was gone too.

and bring back those matches....

How about:

"Basic Thuganomics" John Cena, Funaki, RVD and Orlando Jordan
vs
"Homeland Secruity" Kurt Angle, Luther Reigns, Booker T, Rene Dupree

You oughtta see a pic of Micheals from that PPV.

Aussie Skier 07-15-2004 02:26 AM

Best survivor series EVER was 1993.

The all americans VS The Foreigners.

That match is my favourite of all time just about!

Personally,...any longer and it would have seemed like BS to me.

You've got nathan Jones (HACK), Matt Morgan (HUH?), A Train (MEH) on one team against Benoit, angle, cena.

they had to get eliminated early! the rubbish thing was angle going early tho...it was understandable tho.
and hardcore not gettiing a chance!

The Mackem 07-15-2004 07:12 AM

At least have some some of Survivor element to it anyway. One of my mates favourite Survivor Series is the one where there was the tournament for the belt that resulted in The Rock's heel turn.

lol, I miss those days. Those good days...where Triple H would job to a guy like Goldust. Never again will THAT happen.

James Steele 07-15-2004 01:13 PM

The way to bring interest to Survivor Series every year is to do a "Battle Of The Brands".

5 Best Of Raw (4 guys and HHH) v. 5 Best Of SmackDown! (4 Guys And Undertaker)

and the winning brand gets a prize... i think they could either do "Winning Brand Names #30 Entrant in the Royal Rumble" or "Winning Brand Gets THE MAIN EVENT spot at WrestleMania"
