to all the metalheads...
Any of you heard of Moonspell?
I just started listening to them in the last couple months, and so far, they are awesome. I guess you could consider them pretty much 'goth metal' but less so on their last couple albums. It's pretty heavy, but not near the heaviest of their genre. They've been touring with the likes of Lacuna Coil, Amorphus (Niclas Etelavuori played bass on their last album) and The Kovenant. If you haven't heard them, check out their cds The Butterfly Effect, Antidote, and Sin/Pecado. |
Their last tours that I know of were in support of Opeth/Devildriver and Cradle of Filth/Type O Negative.... seeing as I was there.
Moonspell puts on a fucking kickass show, great band. :y: |
Apparently they're heavily influenced by Typo O Negative, too.
I need to see Moonspell live now. I can't fully judge a band til I see them in the flesh |
Most of the crowd was heckling them because they are a bit on the ridiculous side. Like they are from Portugal, you can hardly understand what the vocalist is saying when he talks to the crowd. Then he busts out with this like 230923 foot skull staff and starts banging it on the stage to the music. Its good times LOL

Moonspell is awesome. Since I am a "true metal" asshole, my favorite album is Wolfheart, though "Awake" is their best song, in my opinion. All of their shit rules.
|
Moonspell is great. I absolutely love them. I'll admit I've never actually seen them play live, though that would be a blessing especially if it could be held with Sins of Thy Beloved and Dismal Euphony- but, Wolfheart is good, but I'm partial to all their albums. Nice to see these forums have other metal heads amongst them.
|
I've heard 3 or 4 of their albums (though not the Wolfheart, gotta check that one out) but I personally aren't really a fan of theirs. I like the vocalist but the music just doesn't really do anything to me, but still a very decent band.
|
I've only heard a couple of songs off their newest album, but they were pretty good.
|
Never heard of them. :o
*downloads Awake* |
Sins of Thy Beloved is fucking awesome. Lake of Sorrow is an amazing album.
HardKore, enjoy. :y: |
... I like you asphyXy. ;) But, the first song I ever heard from Moonspell was "Vampiria." I was so confused by it at first that I couldn't help but like it. Didn't realize they were from Portugal, or well, the vocalist is. But I sometimes get my most out of music when I have no idea what's being said anyway.
|
The first Moonspell song I heard was Heart-shaped Abyss. I was immediately hooked.
I hate when people complain about not being able to understand the lyrics. The bands whose lyrics are intellectual and actually worth paying attention to often have a vocalist who enunciates his growls [Dark Tranquillity, for example is very easy to understand], while nobody really cares what a band like Cannibal Corpse is singing about. |
I'll usually just look up the lyrics. I can understand a majority of most that I listen to, but I do get thrown off sometimes. I favor Nightwish though, when it comes to lyrics. By the way, I checked out the Civil Atrophy site. :y:
Check out www.13winters.com I think they're pretty good. I speak with the drummer on occasion. |
13 Winters is pretty decent. The bass drums are too bassy, though. I can't hear the bass guitar.
PS - www.purevolume.com/CivilAtrophy for an mp3. I did every instrument and programmed the drums. Didn't do vocals for it, though. |
"A Dying Aura" is the shit compared to that demo. Whenever you get something where the vocals are audible, I'd like to hear.
|
The demo on the Civil Atrophy is a joke, by the way.
Are you familiar with the band Children of Bodom? My band [the keyboardist and I] recorded their song "Downfall". I did the guitars and vocals, and the keyboardist did keys and bass. The drums were programmed. http://www.asphyxy.net/downfall.html |
Children of Bodom! I'm listening to them back to back. Vocals are great, and you do them? For being 17 you're better than most that I've heard. There's really no talented musicians in metal around this area, just country, so I'm easily enthralled by others who play- especially the death metal sort. I'm a talentless person in music though. All I'm good for is helping out some friends write lyrics or something.
Wonder if HardKore likes Moonspell now? *Pokes* |
Moonspell is good shit. The vocalist's voice is so ridiculously deep. Their cover of Mr. Crowley > original.
|
Thanks. Everyone in my area is obsessed with Killswitch Engage, Avenged Sevenfold, From Autumn To Ashes, and the like. Every local band has the typical Gothenberg riffing with hardcore screaming - it's pathetic. The 2nd guitarist in my band is into that stuff, but I've shown him the light by bringing him to a few Children of Bodom concerts.
I'll be recording some more originals pretty soon. I might even throw them all on a CD-R and attempt to sell them. Somehow, this is a topic about Moonspell. |
Their cover of Mr. Crowley does indeed rule. Anyone who covers an Ozzy song automatically makes it better. Randy Rhoads is awesome, however.
|
Yeah, it's all about Moonspell. Even if we are discussing other bands.
Mr. Crowley is great though. I've been trying to get all their songs downloaded and managed to find a good version of it this morning. A majority of the music flow around here as far as metal goes is that Christian Metal stuff. I gave it a listen and it wasn't too great. Hardcore for Jesus just doesn't seem to appeal. Onto Moonspell again, I always thought "Sacred" was done well. |

There are only a select few Christian bands that I'd consider good. Extol, for example.
Has anyone heard Moonspell's early demo under the name Morbid God? It's very different, but it's awesome. |
Apparently not. Guess I'll have to look into it.
|
They did a one song demo called Serpent Angel.
|
Know anywhere to download it? I can't get it from their site, nor will my search off shitty i-Mesh find it.

Yeah I saw Moonspell when they opened for Lacuna Coil. Quite impressive.
