The Success of a Sports Team

We all know that sports are universal. No matter what sport or wherever it is played we all watch them for the most part.

When it comes to evaluating the success of a team, what do you think matters the most? I would say it is championships. Even if your team has the highest win percentage, star players out the ass, or whatever it may be, your team is only as good as the championships it wins.

I dont think so, I think a succesful team is consistent over the years

Depends on the sport.

Teams can get lucky in soccer and NCAA B-Ball and shit because they only have to play one game against the teams.

thing is only one team can win a championship in any given sport so i don't consider that a fair basis for success since calling 29 teams or whatever unsuccessfull on the basis of not winning a championship seems a bit harsh. personally, if it's a team that i'm cheering for, i ask that they put out an entertaining product that on any given night could win. i'd also add in stability as an important factor for me as well and agree with stima with being consistent over time.

Largely dynasty.

Depends also on the make up of the team. If say a team buys in a series of players and spends considerable more than anyone else in their league, and buys themselves a Championship, then they won't be considered as good as a team that has built and traded their way into contention.

It depends on the club. For example for Man Utd, a good season would be winning the premiership and having a good champions league campaign. For Charlton a successful season would be to achieve a good top ten place and challenge for Europe. For Norwich a successful season would be to stay up and solidify their staus as a Premiership team

I agree with legendkiller, it really depends on who the team is to determine whether their season is a success or not.

Quick question. How would you rate the sucess of the Atlanta Braves?

The Miz 07-23-2004 02:28 PM

13 straight division titles or whatever doesn't impress me because they've only won 1 World Series. Alot of seasons they've had the best team too. I remember one of the times they played the Yankess in the series, they clearly had a better team but Torre badly outmanaged Cox.
