Finally a movie we can all poop on together. Conan O'Brien's most famous creation this side of The Masturbating Bear, Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, is getting his own movie. Columbia Tri-Star has come aboard to produce the untitled movie that will feature narrative segments mixed in with Triumph's misadventures at this week's Democratic National Convention, as well as the Republican Con next month. The plot will follow Triumph as he reexamines his life and decides to quite insult comedy to become a serious journalist, making his start at the political conventions. Triumph creator Robert Smigel will direct the mostly improvised film with Mike De Luca producing for Sony (you can bet that Conan O'Brien and Lorne Michaels will also produce in some fashion). Smigel just received his press credentials earlier this week and almost immediately began filming for the movie, even before negotiations were final (credentials for the Republican fest still haven't arrived). So far he's already snagged interviews with Michael Moore and Ariana Huffington. There have been rumors Smigel and Triumph were given the boot from the Democratic Convention but there has been no confirmation yet (UPDATE - it seems Triumph and Smigel were indeed bumped from the Convention. Check the amusing evidence here). To get yourself psyched for the Triumph feature film debut, a "Best Of" DVD will be released on August 10th that will feature the highlights and lowlights of his career (including the insanely funny "Star Wars" bit).
