Best Boxer of all time

I would make a poll up but theres gonna be a massive difference in opinion,

I'm discounting any votes for Ali as anyone who isn't a fan will read and just post Ali, in a He's the only boxer I know of kinda way.

So who Is/Was the best Pound for Pound Boxer ever?

My money is on Prince Naseem Hamed, not just because he was a great boxer, but because he was cocky, brash, arrogant and brought something to the sport that hadn't been seen before.

His boxing style is truely original, and I have yet to come across anything like it. :y: Plus he's British.

Rob 08-02-2004 04:03 PM

Hamed? Are you serious? He isn't even the best British fighter ever. Hell, he isn't even the best British featherweight ever.

Personally I say Oscar De La Hoya. World titles at 6 weights is simply amazing. Too many greats to name though - Hagler, Lewis, Ali, Robinson, Leonard, Morales, Nelson, Chavez, Maricano, etc. Plus you can really only judge who you grew up on. Nigel Benn was awesome when I was a kid but he can't rank with Hagler or Duran.

Hey, remember when that German guy got screwed by De La Hoya even though the German guy OWNED him? Bad times.

Anyway, I've read books on Ali, I've seen Ali box, and I think he is the best ever.

el fregadero 08-02-2004 04:07 PM

Tyson was the man, but I'm gonna say Roy Jones Jr.

Rob 08-02-2004 04:08 PM

How did De La Hoya screw him? He pretty much admitted he thought he lost the fight. I thought it was a lot closer than people said personally but after the dodgy decisions DLH had against Trinidad and Mosley (twice), you can hardly say he didn't deserve a decision one time.

I've grown up as a Hamed mark since his first Super Bantam fight against Buckley, I'd never seen anything like it, his actual boxing style was unheard of and it took 27 fights for anyone to finally start laying gloves on him, He was completely unorthodox in attack and defense.

He could box Orthodox or South Paw, he could even switch it up in the middle of a fight.

He had all the goods just got to cocky to use them, I grew up watching him and I will forever believe he was/is the greatest talent to grace the sport.

But I have to agree De la Hoya's moving through the weights is unchallenged as the greatest feat in Boxing history.

But the minute Hamed fought someone who was universally considered to be a true great, he got beat convincingly and was never seen of again.

RemyRed 08-02-2004 04:31 PM

You shouldve separated this into different weight divisions. There's too many great name to just pick one Best Boxer of all time.

OssMan 08-02-2004 04:38 PM

Sugar Ray Robinson.

He beat Robinson, Medina, Johnson, Belcastro, all inside the distance, Then fucked up Kevin Kelley and Wayne Mcculough, Vazquez and Bungu.

Yeah sure Barrera Beat him but it wasn't a truely convincing victory.

Gertner 08-02-2004 05:12 PM

Ali. This shouldn't even be a discussion.

top 5 (besides Ali)

1. Marciano
2. Robinson
3. Duran
4. Haglar
5. Louis.

And Heyman, Tyson made a living on beating up average to less than average heavyweights.

Robinson was a nobody, Tom Johnson isn't world class. Belcastro who? Kelly was a good fight but he could have easily lost that one and others have just embarrassed him since. He certainly never fu</>cked up McCoulough. I have only have seen him take a hiding once and that was against Scott Harrison. He even gave Erik Morales a quality fight.

Barrera beat him very convincingly. Hamed wouldn't last now against Morales, Barrera, Pac Man, Harrison, Chi or Hernandez. He has been dodging Michael Brodie for God sake!

Yeah I'm so dumb that my number 3 fighter never got knocked out by every good boxer he fought as well as taking a beating from a bonafide member of the Job Squad in Danny Williams.

MrMeJW 08-04-2004 07:08 PM

Apollo Creed

I dunno who I think is the best tho..I am not a big follower of Boxing at all. Lewis is probably up there, even tho I cant stand him or his fans really. I think he is extremely boring to watch but he is one of the greatest of all time.

Bad Company 08-05-2004 05:46 AM

Ultimo Dragon

Failing that, Ali

Tony Montana 08-05-2004 05:53 AM

I honestly think Lennox Lewis is the best boxer of all time.

Gertner 08-05-2004 03:19 PM

Lewis is up there in the top 5 heavyweights of all time, but I wouldn't say he's the best.

Kapoutman 08-05-2004 04:04 PM

Roberto Duran.

Also, I think that Arturro Gatti will be on that list someday.

Emeye 08-05-2004 04:11 PM

Rocky Marciano, and Tyson in his prime.

jindrak 08-06-2004 04:13 AM

Jack Dempsey. :shifty:

Y2C 08-13-2004 08:34 AM

Hollywood Hogan.

He once ko'ed Nash with a finger poke to the chest.

Y2C 08-13-2004 08:35 AM

But if by "boxer" you mean "rapist", Tyson was the best my a country mile.
