IMO Val Kilmer made Tombstone. But I mean cmon. Eastwood is the obvious great one.

I like Eastwood. Not to big a fan of John Wayne.

But for best cowboy, I'll have to go with Robert Duvall. He was great in "Lonesome Dove", as mentioned before, and he upstaged Costner in "Open Range."
