I gotta give credit where it's due (re: JBL's SD segment)

Man, I haven't laughed so hard at WWE programming in a long while. I gotta hand it to JBL, he's a total ass in real life, but he's got one helluva character! The midget Taker was priceless, and his corny jokes were pretty funny because of his ridiculous facial expressions. However, the best part was how he reacted when Taker's music hit for real and he still had mini Taker in a tombstone position. Priceless expression and pricess picture. The SD pic they have on the site is good, but the best view is the one directly on him with mini Taker's legs around his arms.

Anyway, my point is as much as we hate JBL, at least as a person, his character is very solid, and I can't really complain too much. He's been pretty darn entertaining recently, and his classic cowardly heel is very good.

So kudos to Bradshaw (for once).

See? I'm not just a stubborn hater of a smark! :D

Savio 08-06-2004 03:33 AM

Ehhhh It didn't deserve to be the last segment.

Funky Fly 08-06-2004 04:34 AM

In short:

JBL :y:
John Layfied :n:

Triple A 08-06-2004 04:38 AM

Actually it wasn't that bad..look at me, trying to act so grown up with my period's and caps..wow...Well is was funny the minitaker was actually pretty good taking his cowboy hat off and staring...

Hired Hitman 08-06-2004 04:56 AM

I really like his character...

CYCLOPTERSAURUS 08-06-2004 07:42 AM

I enjoy the character, but I am f</>ucking sick of all these god damned midgets that wrestlers keep bringing in dressed as other wrestlers. It was sort of funny the first time, but christ, what is this, 10, 20 times in WWE in the past few years? it's just not funny anymore.

Shadow 08-06-2004 09:38 AM

Its a running gag that's sure to get a cheap laugh. I'm waiting for Mini-Bradshaw though. That would be hil-fucking-larious. Can ya smell the buyrates?

AareDub 08-06-2004 09:55 AM

I was laughing pretty hard at how long he held that midget upside down.

Disturbed316 08-06-2004 10:39 AM

That chokeslam must of hurt the poor little guy.

Corkscrewed 08-06-2004 12:06 PM

That was an Asian midget too, I think. He looked pretty ridiculous.

Xero 08-06-2004 12:38 PM

On a WWE.com video they called him the "Undertoddler"

It was a pretty good, funny segment...

Wasnt the midget impression first use to immitate Bret? That was pretty good...

(HBK holds mini Bret back with his hand, whose arms are flailing)

The CyNick 08-06-2004 12:44 PM

I liked it, I mean I prefer World Title segments to be serious, but as I said in another post there isn't much else you can do with this program. JBL has to play the coward heel, and the less they wrestle each other before the PPV, the better the buyrate will be.

JBL's facials are really good,a nd he was funny in the interaction with the midget and when Taker arrived.

Ive been one of JBL's biggest supporters, even though I really dislike the man behind the gimmick. But business hasn't tanked like many expected (myself included) and he's held his own in the ring. Summerslam will be yet another test, and we'll see how he does. But so far so good.

Nark Order 08-06-2004 01:02 PM

His ring work hasn't been that bad as of late either, I think he's really starting to take everything more seriously.

Fryza 08-06-2004 01:08 PM

If Bradshaw could wrestle as well as he cut promos.. That would own.

Batsu 08-08-2004 07:04 PM

Yeah, if he could wrestle as well as he cut promos...

...that segment was hilarious.

MVP 08-08-2004 07:41 PM

I agree, that segment made me come around and join the JBL supporters; don't expect me to be egostroking him though.

CosaNostra 08-08-2004 07:54 PM

Yeah, the midget impersonators hasn't been done enough already. LEts see some more.

Lara Emily 08-08-2004 08:52 PM

He's a good comedic heel. He's just horrible in the ring and not someone who should have become champion. The segment was great but still so what? It's still Bradhsaw the terrible wrestler. Glad he decided to be comedic then serious because his promos were dull when he was trying to be all serious.

John la Rock 08-08-2004 09:20 PM

JBL is doing great right now. His promos are right up there with best of them and he has really taken this character to another level.

But I agree that he shouldn't have become WWE champ. He should be US champ :y:

Mayo 08-08-2004 11:00 PM

Yeah I wouldn't be surprised if the WWE gets some phone calls from angry viewers, even though the midget was most likely a wrestler himself. I love it when midgets impersonate wrestlers, its pretty freakin' funny. Hell, I even laughed my ass off when The Rock brought in Gillberg during the second Rock Concert, that shit was fucking classic :D

AareDub 08-09-2004 12:30 AM

My favorite midget moment was back in WCW when Jericho hyped the return of Rey Mysterio to challenge him for the Cruiserweight Title. I think they showed promo videos and stuff for a couple of weeks hyping the return. After all that it just ended up being Midget Mysterio

LK 08-09-2004 09:50 AM

Got to give credit where credit is due. JBL has been one funny as hell guy since he got the new character. This segment and the one when he said Shannon Moore was the challenger for the title was quite funny.

Hired Hitman 08-09-2004 10:19 AM

Yeah, I was thinking about him turning around and telling the Undertaker "It's NOT what it LOOKS like!"

LK 08-09-2004 11:03 AM

Should have gotten the US title instead of the WWE title

If the worst thing you can find in the WWE right now is the Undertaker Tombstoning a midget...

Yes, and he shouldn't have gotten the push he's gotten on the level he's gotten it.

However, he's had a couple of really good segments. I don't think he should be in the HW title scene, and I don't think he should be getting the push, but at least he's not totally dropping the ball and sucking it up.

How many bad matches has he been in since he's been champ?

Corkscrewed 08-09-2004 02:08 PM

Not too many, and he's still yet to pick up a win over anyone who'd not ordinarily be a Cruiserweight. The thing is, they STILL haven't established him as being credible. Hell, even a win over Hardcore Holly would probably double his current credibility as a champion. He's had squash matches over wrestlers I could beat... (bar Mysterio), so what's that prove? Yes, he beat Eddie... via screw jobs. No pinfalls wins against anyone good.

Basically, Vince is going with the "make him champ for so long that people forget he wasn't credible and thus build up false credibility" routine. This is especially true if he goes over Taker at SS, as rumored.

But that's management's fault, really. And I'm not too heartbroken about JBL not beating legitimate contenders.

Yeah its just one way to push a heel champion. I mean with a guy like Angle or HHH you have to push them as legit champions because the fans have seen them beat just about everyone. With Bradshaw part of his character is that he really doesn't deserve any of the success he's had, but he keeps winning. In theory the fans should believe he will lose to every babyface challenger that goes aginst him, which should peak people's interest.

However, you can only do that so long, and I would agree he needs some credible wins at some point if he's going to keep the title for a long period of time.

Corkscrewed 08-09-2004 04:06 PM

Good points about how to push a heel champ, Cynick. However, I think he should have picked up two, maybe three wins against solid midcarders. I'm talking people in the caliber of Rikishi (he was still with the company back then), Billy Gun, Hardcore Holly, even Johnny the Bull. It wouldn't have been that hard...
