What destroyed wrestling was.......

When wrestlers came forward and stated that everything was scripted. Before that time especially when your still a kid you would see these guys as heroes fighting off the bad guys and some still due but this defintely deflated interest. Also as much as I like this site and other wrestling related one's it really deflates a person interest in wrestling when finishes and debuts/returns are leaked.Eg(Orton was reported to win the battle Royal at Raw a couple of days before Raw took place).I know I may get some negative responses but I hope you can respect my views

Loose Cannon 08-08-2004 12:55 AM

yeah, don't read the Internet sites then.

Even after McMahon told the "truth" about the business, wrestling did prove to make a come-back (i.e Attitude Era).

Being a mark was totally awesome as a kid...

Dazz 08-08-2004 01:06 AM

Yeah I still watch wrestling, back in the day I always knew it was fake, but I could never believe it, as it looked real. So therefor I was always really into it, like there was a hope that it was real or something.

I much preffered it back then, when it was about fighting and not storylines, thats why I'd pick ECW over the WWE anyday.

The One 08-08-2004 02:30 AM

How did revealing the fact that the ending of the matches and the promos were scripted hurt anything? NOBODY BUT MARKS THOUGHT IT WAS REAL! Hell at the tender age of 3 I knew that it wasn't real the the traditional sense of competition. Pretty much after the trial of 1991 (or was it 92) everyone knew it was fake and Vince damn well came out with the facts. But you look at it and Wrestling's most popular time, at least in terms of attendence and merchandise, was YEARS after that was revealed. I don't respect your thoughts on the topic as they are completly and utterly invalid...you may say that it personally killed interest for YOU, but to say it killed wrestling, give me a break.

Batsu 08-08-2004 02:34 AM

I think the WWE/F style of wrestling and characters behind the wrestlers in the 80s pretty much did more to drive the point home than the wrestlers coming forward themselves.

James Steele 08-08-2004 01:37 PM

Hey Deadman, you see that phrase above my avatar? Yes the one that says "Shut Up You Ignorant Ass"

If you haven't gotten it yet, shut up and die you ignorant ass.

That's fine at least you stated your opinion in a graceful way.I remember watching sable on CNN once and one caller really got pissed at her because she stated wrestling was scripted and "fake".He said his kid took it hard because the wrestlers were like heroes to him.But agin thanks for your response at lest you put a dignified answer unlike Jamas Steele :nono:

That's when interest was at it's peek.I mean when you watch nitro and they tell you that Mick Foley is going to win the WWF/E title when it hasn't even occured it gets you pretty disinterested

James Steele 08-08-2004 02:31 PM

Deadman, its my stupid gimmick. Anyway, welcome to TPWW.

Also, think about what would happen if they didn't "come out" anbd reveal it was all fake. How would that have impacted wrestling? Would Stone Cold never have exsisted? Would Doink be a top draw?

And crack is not a bad thing, its a good thing :) *god i miss DDP* :'(

I knew it was fake back when I was 6.

You shouldn't be seeing pro wrestlers as heroes.

No, you're stating a moronic opinion, backing it up by blaming other people for you being unable to avoid spoilers, and failing at the use of punctuation in the process.

interest wasn't at its peak yet.

In fact, the "monday night wars" came and pushed up the quality of WWE shows, including the switch to a live format for Raw. But don't let the facts get in your way...

James Steele 08-08-2004 02:36 PM

Kane Knight = A Real Hero

Are you seriously trying to be retarded?

First off, your posts are barely English.

Second, don't pretend that everyone idolisd Hogan. It's insulting to the ENTIRE fanbase.

Good point but most people here have to admit that wrestling has become alot more story oreinted than it should be.

James Steele 08-08-2004 02:51 PM

LMAO, wrestling? WTF is that.

WWF was really the same. It didn't draw on raw athleticism. Hogan wqas a shit athelete, but he was a great entertainer (for the time).

Wrestling was colorful, oft cartoony. That's one of the main reasons it appealed to kids, real or fake.

Come on. Not common.

He was popular with kids. That doesn't mean all kids were hogan fans, or even all kids who were wrestling fans were.

Sorry, you're shifting the blame off of yourself. Acting like it's not your fault for reading the spoilers, because they're there.

That's blame shifting. You 're blaming others for your own inability to curb your curiousity.

And I'm watching TV and writing at the same time. If you can't bother to make your posts readable, why make them at all?

Dave Youell 08-08-2004 05:41 PM

Well considering this very site and others like it were doing the same thing they are doing now in 1999 when wrestling was at it's highest, I take DeadManWalkin's post with a pince of salt

mrslackalack 08-08-2004 10:40 PM

WWES lack of creative storylines after they bought WCW and ECW went under.

Yup. I was reading this site back when wrestling was still heavily popular. It (and other sites) didn't change my outlook on wrestling, and they sure as fuck didn't kill wrestling.

People just need a scapegoat.

The WWE can't accept that their booking is the primary fault here.

Die Hard marks will buy that line, and will blame the internet, even as they use the internet themselves.

Wrestlers will say it, because you can lose your push really fast if you piss off the WWE.

Corkscrewed 08-09-2004 02:11 PM

Admission of fakeness didn't ruin WWE... bad storylines, incomplete logic, and lack of consisten longterm planning hurt WWE.

thecc 08-09-2004 03:25 PM

also deadmanwalkin didn't the undertaker hold the world title 3 times.
