I was surprised today to find out the USA didn't qualify for the Olympics in

baseball.

What happened?

FearedSanctity 08-15-2004 06:03 PM

I was wondering this too. Anyone know?

ct2k 08-15-2004 06:03 PM

No major leaguers, they didn't cut the mustard in their qualifiers and didn't get in, simple as really :-\

YOUR Hero 08-15-2004 06:07 PM

Major leaguers or not, I'd expect colledge kids and minor leaguers to be able to be good enough. Very surprising.

BCWWF 08-15-2004 06:41 PM

They lost to Mexico in the qualifying finals, like 1-0 or something, it was kind of a big deal when it happened. The US soccer team was elimated by Mexico aswell, and they easilly should have made it.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 08-15-2004 06:42 PM

I have never seen an Olympic baseball game in my life

BCWWF 08-15-2004 06:46 PM

Meh, we've got the baseball world cup coming on soon, that'll be better anyway

MoRcHeEbA 08-15-2004 07:20 PM

Duncan and Iverson were surprised too.

Nah, thats Tims happy look

YOUR Hero 08-15-2004 07:44 PM

I remember when the soccer team lost to Mexico. The Mexican fans where chanting "Osama, Osama" trying to get under the skin of the Yanks.

ahahahahahahaha

Magnificent. Football fans are the greatest.

The Mackem 08-15-2004 08:01 PM

I'd be interested in hearing what USA crowds chant at football matches.

El Capitano Gatisto 08-15-2004 08:04 PM

FearedSanctity 08-15-2004 08:14 PM

Yeah, US fans of almost every sport tend to suck at chants

Yeah, and a rendition of Fields of Athenry.

ct2k 08-15-2004 08:16 PM

Especially in Boston, they just chant the name of the player they're most jealous of on the opposing team really slow and annoyingly

road doggy dogg 08-15-2004 08:19 PM

I wish Ricky were American. He'd give them a good chant.

LOL

BCWWF 08-15-2004 09:01 PM

College basketball is where Americans display chanting

stima 08-16-2004 12:03 AM

Chants are gay, thats why

WHO ATE ALL THE PIES
YOU ATE ALL THE PIES
YOU FAT BASTARD

YEA SICK

stima 08-16-2004 12:05 AM

Actaully the best chant I have ever witnessed was at a basketball game at my school, the other team had a chinese pointguard and the whole student section started chanting "Asia" every time he touched the ball. The best part was that there was an Asian kid chanting it too

ECW fans were the shit for chants though.

BCWWF 08-16-2004 02:39 AM

Our best chant at a basketball game last year was when our b-ball rivals came to our school their coach was wearing a red sweater vest, so "Sweater Vest...Sweater Vest..." What a great chant.

BCWWF 08-16-2004 02:40 AM

Yeah, ECW started the whole "You fucked up" thing didn't they? That one was key to use when guys went to the box against us. I remember ECW fans just being brutal with their chants :o The good old days

The Outlaw 08-18-2004 11:32 PM

haha nah best chant ever was at a high school basketball gamemy high school had. The other team had like a 5 foot guy. Whenever he got the ball or shot a free throw and it got real quite the student section said

"KICK YOURSELF IN THE HEAD WEE MAN"

or

"WEE-MAN WEE-MAN"

Hilarious

da_king 08-19-2004 01:14 AM

<font color="#ccffcc">
i was pretty suprised at that too i mean it's one thing to not win a medal but not even qualify. it's too bad the league couldn't shut down for a couple of weeks or whatever to allow all the players to play like they've done for basketball and hockey.

loopydate 08-19-2004 04:11 PM

The best chants in American sports belong to Austin Peay University.

Any school that can chant, free of irony, "Let's go Peay! Let's go Peay!" is all right by me.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 08-19-2004 09:20 PM

I am really not surpised USA didnt qualify for the Olympics in baseball. I don't think minor leaguers play in the Olympics, so you have just a bunch of college kids. A lot of the great HS Talent skips colleges and goes staright into the minor leagues

ct2k 08-19-2004 09:37 PM

Remember the Dominican Republic aren't there either, they'd have an amazing side

BCWWF 08-19-2004 10:34 PM

No they wouldn't, anyone in the dominican republic with any talent is signed to the MLB by the age of 16, if they took professionals yeah, but Olympic baseball is just lame anyway and there would be no clear cut favorites.

Gammons was talking about it on the radio, said the team was AAA guys and a few major leaguers who didn't expect to be playing much in september.

He said they had a good team, but they faced a good pitcher who just shutdown their bats.

MoRcHeEbA 08-20-2004 02:19 PM

yeah most of the canadian team has Major leaguers or AAA players who were allowed to go from their teams to play.

YOUR Hero 08-21-2004 12:24 AM

Well the Major Leaguers that play for Canada aren't like superstars or anything.

BCWWF 08-21-2004 02:34 AM

Justin Morneau was a few days away from Athens when we called him up, haha fuck canada

Morneau, Koskie...

The big row is about the guy who is pitching at AAA for Colorado and the Suckies wouldn't release him for the games.

CNM 08-21-2004 04:56 PM

Cry about it

CNM 08-21-2004 05:00 PM

Morneau and Koskie don't play for Team Canada and Jeff Francis is gonna make his major league debut in a few days. It's not like Team Canada needed him anyway.
