Quick question concerning Service Pack 2

Since CREDO is the Roman god of computers, this is mostly directed towards him, but anyone with some info on this can reply if they want.

Right, SP2 is out as it seems, but there's a little catch: it's the IT professional/developer version meant for multiple simultaneous installs. The home version isn't out yet, so I was wondering: would installing this version on a single computer be overly complicated/harmful to my pc?

Also, is there any other info I might need to know?

Installing it shouldn't hurt. It's new and has some faults but if you're wanting to install it you should be just fine.

Now when you say "faults" what do you mean, exactly? :wtf:

Same when SP1 came out. There are just some bugs still that will probably be answered in updates down the road.

I was reading about it after I posted to make sure it's safe and it's fine. It's for anyone really running XP. They say to wait a few weeks to let all the kinks and stuff get fixed but you'll be fine downloading it.

Theres some annoyances too that are not bugs.

I see. I can stand to wait a few weeks (or more likely, months) for the proper updates to resolve whatever minor bugs and annoyances that exist at the moment.

It sucks about the p2p thing, though. 10 connections per port? That's gonna make my kazaa lite and nova torrent hella slow. Good-bye 300+kbps speeds. :'(

Yeah, SP2 can really screw with your connections. With all the security fixes and everything, there were bound to be some run ins. If you're looking for a vote to throw you either way, I'd say get it and put up with the minor annoyances.

Some of them, like the 10 connections per port, can be corrected with new (hidden) built in tools though.

At least the Windows firewall actually works now ;)

yeah, wait a few more more weeks.

never install these major updates when they first comes out...theres always bugs

You can disable the firewall in SP2 really easily, dont worry.
These is also a list of apps/games that have problems working with it. It's on the MS site, but I cant be arsed looking for it. Search the knowledge base.

Well i have been running SP2 final for about a week or so and havent come across any problems yet. I havent tried bit torrent though.

But yeah as stated above, wait a few weeks untill something like SP2a is released like they did with SP1.

Microsoft have delayed the automatic delivery of WinXP SP2 via Windows Update. They have a list of software that is affected by installing SP2. IBM meanwhile have instructed their people to not install it just yet.

but to answer the original question, the downloadable IT professional/developer version is for home edition as well as XP Pro. its handy to have if you are updating multipule machines.
Of like I have done, use it to slipstream it into your copy of XP, so next the re-install I do will have SP2 already in there, handy.
