Wayans Brothers Scare Up 'Munsters' Revival (Reuters)

By Borys Kit and Chris Gardner
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - "The Munsters" are coming to the big screen courtesy of the Wayans brothers.

Keenen Ivory, Marlon and Shawn Wayans have struck a deal with Universal Pictures to take the 1960s television show about a family of friendly monsters who never quite get why people react in terror to them and give it a 21st century makeover.

The deal calls for the three Wayanses to write the screenplay as well as produce along with Rick Alvarez. There is a possibility that Keenen Ivory Wayans would direct, though no deal is in the works without a finished script.

"The Munsters" aired on CBS from 1964-66. The Wayans version will stay true to the original characters, but will place them in a contemporary setting.

Sources said the Wayans came up with the idea for a "Munsters" redo while in Canada filming their recently released collaboration "White Chicks." Coincidentally, Universal also had been tossing around ideas for an update on the property, so the brothers polished their take and took it to the studio.

Although specific dollar figures were not disclosed, sources described it as a very lucrative deal for the Wayanses. The deal marks the first time the brothers have taken on a screen adaptation, since their previous efforts have based on original ideas. Shawn and Marlon teamed to write "Scary Movie," "Scary Movie 2" and "Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood." They teamed with Keenen Ivory to pen "Chicks."

as soon as I saw Wayans Brothers I knew it was to be a crap movie.

Boondock Saint 08-25-2004 11:28 AM

lol

Loose Cannon 08-25-2004 12:31 PM

Wow, didn't know the Munsters had a short run like that. It's always on TV now and days.

Worst movie idea: "Okay, Hulk Hogan is a spy or something, and in order to stop a kidnapping or...something... he... get this... He has to become a nanny!"

Nowhere Man 08-25-2004 04:39 PM

I'd rather watch a Hulk Hogan movie marathon than see the Wayanseseses do the Munsters.

Still, it's not as bad as when Bennifer were threatening to remake Casa Blanca.

Shaggy 08-25-2004 04:40 PM

Yea I might have to go with yall on The Tuxedo being a horrible idea. The nanny wasnt a great movie but at the age I was when I saw it, it was entertaining.

As for the Munsters bring brought back and put on the big screen. I dont know if it will work out ok. I mean they are a part of a great legacy here. Its hard to make it new with out pissing a few fans off.

let's have a WWE wrestler portray a marine

<font=seablue> Nah, those are all bad ideas but the worst idea still has to be prequels. Like, what the fuck are some of these movie execs thinking?

Star Wars I and II were shit compared to the original trilogy. I've yet to see Lion King 1 1/2. I don't know if I want to see Exorcist - the Beginning and Dumb and Dumberer - the worst.

Someone needs some new ideas and fast. I will agree with one aspect of the original post though - TV shows to movies = :n:</font>

DaveWadding 08-26-2004 10:04 PM

Lion King 1 1/2 was not really a prequel...it sucked nonetheless.

To be honest, I don't really care if it did or didn't happen. Just as long as Campbell is in 99% of the movie, and that Raimi writes all of his lines.

Gertner 08-27-2004 05:01 PM

Don't be a menace was a fuckin classic movie. other then that, i don't like the Wayans.

Gertner 08-27-2004 05:03 PM

btw i liked this movie the first time when it was called the Adams family.

tucsonspeed6 08-27-2004 05:21 PM

Hey guys, let's make a sequel to "Anaconda"!

Champion of Europa 08-27-2004 05:42 PM

No, this is the worst idea:

Sissy Hankshaw is born with enormous thumbs that help her hitchhiking through the US from a young age. She becomes a model in advertising and her NY agent 'the Countess' sends her to his ranch in CA to shoot a commercial, set against the background of mating whooping cranes. There, she befriends Bonanza Jellybean, one of the cowgirls at the beauty- ranch. The cowgirls take command of the ranch from the Countess and 'drug' the cranes with 'peyote'. The police besiege the ranch.

It WOULD be the worst movie ever, had Uma Thurman not got lesbiany in it.

Yes, that is true and that's also the worst problem in movies today. There will always be a demand with the supply...

The only Wayans Brother thats actually funny is that one thats in the My Wife And Kids. The rest are wankers who deserve to die horribly in a freak yaughting accident.
