Who would you say is the best pure hitter in the Majors?

Probably Ichiro or Vlad for my money. Ichiro just stacks the bases up, rarely strikes out, hits for average, to both sides, for extra bases and for power sometimes, and he hustles, ultimate lead off hitter in baseball right now i reckon.

Vlad can dig just about any ball out and hit a homer from it, he also hits for average, has great power, drives runs in, hits to both sides and has done it with terrific consistency as has Ichiro.

How bout you guys?

The Miz 08-28-2004 01:45 PM

Pujols or Vlad

Supreme Olajuwon 08-28-2004 02:19 PM

Vlad

DegenerationY 08-28-2004 02:36 PM

Ichiro

FakeLaser 08-28-2004 03:02 PM

Vlad.

BCWWF 08-28-2004 04:48 PM

Ichiro or Bonds, theres nothing pure to Vlad's hitting at all

Jesus Shuttlesworth 08-28-2004 04:49 PM

Vlad

Supermark101 08-28-2004 06:16 PM

Pujols or Bonds

Yashamaga 08-28-2004 07:06 PM

I can't believe Manny hasn't been mentioned

ct2k 08-28-2004 07:08 PM

Good call Yash

DaveWadding 08-28-2004 07:18 PM

Pujols, Manny, Barry Lamar

CNM 08-28-2004 09:46 PM

Yeah, there's a few. I think Vlad's hitting approach is the opposite of a pure hitter.

ct2k 08-28-2004 09:50 PM

Yet he's incredibly successful. Textbook style doesn't work for everyone, just look at the way Gary Sheffield waves his bat back and forth.

Sheffield is another great hitter. The way he can foul off any ball in a split second is was impresses me about him, his bat speed is phenomenal

CNM 08-28-2004 09:58 PM

Yeah, but you didn't ask who the best hitter is, you asked who the best pure hitter is.

ct2k 08-28-2004 10:01 PM

True:p

ct2k 08-28-2004 10:03 PM

BUT, someone can be a pure hitter without having the type of motion taught when you're 5. Vlad is just an out and out hitter, he doesn't do it in the traditional way sure.

el fregadero 08-28-2004 10:09 PM

Ichiro, then Vlad.

BCWWF 08-28-2004 10:22 PM

CNM and I are agreeing on a lot more lately

BCWWF 08-28-2004 10:38 PM

Also is there a reason Bonds has been left out of so many? I mean Manny Ramirez is a good hitter, but he is nowhere on the scale of Bonds IMO.

The Miz 08-28-2004 10:49 PM

Nobody in the history of baseball is on the scale of Bonds

ct2k 08-29-2004 11:19 AM

I'd disagree with that and say there are a few guys who were on the scale of Bonds/or could be, but no one has been more dominant than he has in the last few years

The Icon of Elisim 08-30-2004 01:23 AM

Pujols then Bonds

tucsonspeed6 08-30-2004 04:30 PM

I don't know the AL, so I'll just say Pujols.

Gertner 08-30-2004 04:32 PM

AL- Ichiro

NL- hmmmm, Pujols, Beltre is amazing, I really like Juan Pierre

Supreme Olajuwon 08-30-2004 04:56 PM

Bonds really doesn't see enough pitches to be considered the best pure hitter. He clearly has the best swing but when you get intentionally walked by yourself more than any team combined in baseball, it hurts your rep.

Vlad has an ugly looking swing but he can hit anything anywhere. Plus he swings at pretty much everything and puts it in play.

As for good looking swings, Pujols has a great swing. He looks like a coiled up snake ready to strike. Juan Gonzalez also has a great looking swing. Same with Junior Griffey

The Outlaw 08-30-2004 10:40 PM

I like Edmonds swing. And Garrett Anderson.
