Best pitcher in baseball this year
polls are open
|
gotta be Johan IMO
unstoppable |
Yup Santana, he's been phenomenal this second half of the year. Though honourable mentions to Carl Pavano, Rivera, Mark Mulder and Jaret Wright.
|
Johan...but if Unit got even a little run support I'd vote for him.
|
Johan.
17-6. 2.85. 142 hits, 48 BB, and 64 earned runs in 202 innings. 233 strikeouts. Fantastic line. |
Wanna hear something sad?
Unit is 12-13 with a 2.80 ERA :( |
Yup, it's shitty.
Also, Tom, Glavine is like 9-12 with like a 3.1 era or something, he was in the mid 2's most the year too. Then you see Kenny Rogers with 16 wins off a 4.6 era! |
Santana is great, but I feel for Johnson just because he is pitching so unbelievable and getting shit for it.

Satana.
Wait! No Todd Fossum or Hideo Nomo? |
Johan is the only guy in the AL with an ERA under 3.00, but I'm pretty sure that theres like four or five in the NL.
Jason Schmidt has been good as usual, Johnson had a complete game for gods sake, Sheets the 17 K game, Mulder and Hudson have each been hot for times, but I am going to have to take Johan because in this second half absolutely nobody can beat him and he has just dominated in some of the big games. Because he has done more for his team than Johnson, I am going with him, even though theres really nothing Johnson can do about it, its how the cookie crumbles. |
Mulder
|
Santana

El Duque has an era well under 3.00 but obviously he's only made about 10 starts...Still, he's had a shit-hot return, its great for him and the Yankees, he could be very valuable in the postseason. |
Gil Meche
|
LOL why put Linebrink on that list?
Johan, by the way... |
If he doesn't win the Cy Young this year it'll be a fucking outrage

Wanna vote for Wright, but ya know.
Best pitcher? Unit. Don't care if he is 12-13. |
Changed my vote
Ryan Franklin |
Troy Hudson hasn't played the whole season, I don't think he qualifies for the league leaders yet does he?

Who voted for Pedro? :?:

God damnit I do that all the time. The top five will probably be...
1 Johan 2 Mulder 3 Schilling 4 Hudson 5 Pedro |
In terms of dominating hitters, there are only three guys who come to my mind as being the best pitchers in the game this year:
Randy Johnson, Johan Santana, and Jason Schmidt. All three have had their streaks of dominance. Schmidt had been dominant all season long and won 10 decisions in a row at one point, but lately he's been getting hit. Johnson should have 18-20 wins by now, but Arizona gives him no run support. He's been pretty great all season. Santana got lit up the first two months of the season, but since then he hasn't had ONE non-quality start and has a 1.5 ERA. Plus, he's 25. So take your pick from those three. I'll take Santana because of the youth factor and because he's been absolutely unhittable for three months. By the way, anybody notice that Brad Lidge has the highest K/9 ratio in history this year [I think]? He's got something like 129 strikeouts in 80 innings. |
Thing is Mulder has had a huge ERA in the second half, well over 5. Because of the run support he gets he's gone 7-2 in that time. Johnson can pitch a complete game, strike out 17, give up 1 and he'll still loose the ball game because the D's suck so much.
|
Schilling because I am biased
|
The name is Gagné, not Gange. :(
|
Ok i'm gonna be controversial and say Carl Pavano for NL Cy Young.
|
Johan has got it. Opponents are batting like .190 against him. Pretty sick.
Chose Mulder though. :) |
If i was on the voting panel i'd say Santana AL, Pavano NL.
Though i reckon Schmidt will get the NL anyway. |
