Unforgiven Rumour (Potential Spoilers)

Apparently the word going around backstage is that Orton may be loosing the World Heavyweight Championship at Unforgiven to Triple H. Sources say that the lockerroom is fairly split as to who should be the champion heading into the NFL season. Many feel that Orton would make a better face chasing after the title.

I personally think they should keep the title on Orton. Randy's done a lot of entertaining stuff so far, and as long as they keep him a focal point of RAW. If Triple H does get the title back, I hope Orton forfeits it to him, to really build up some heat between the two, and to have Orton rejoin Evolution.

I think it is too soon for Orton to play the title seeking maniac. I think it only works if the face has never held the title, or lost it in a built-up match that ended in a screwjob. I think they should keep the title on Orton by having Evolution turn on Triple H, and have Helmsley play the renegade face.

If they job Orton to HHH that'll just be too funny

Corkscrewed 09-12-2004 06:28 AM

Watch the ratings soar just by having HHH as champ. I mean... a diff. champ doesn't really affect things too much given the current situation unless his name is JBL.

Xero 09-12-2004 11:14 AM

That sucks, lets just hope that he doesnt fucking HOG it...

Looks like Orton will be Benoit's Heat buddy :(

Rob 09-12-2004 11:50 AM

I'm 50-50. You don't wanna see Orton lose the title so early but it might be worth it if they have Evolution absolutely muller him to the point where it's unrealistic if he wins from a 3 on 1 beat down and then he can chase the title.

The CyNick 09-12-2004 03:02 PM

I think its too late to try to run with Orton as a babyface, so I think he should turn heel again.

I think you have Orton retain the title with help from Batista, but not Flair. Batista and Orton hook up with Edge, Christian and Tomko as the new Evolution (I can hear JR going "bawh gawd their stronger than ever!").

HHH goes face, and Flair takes a beating from the new Evolution and is gone for a little while to sell the new Evo as being viscious.

HHH is left by himself. He talks about how over most of career he's relied on other people to do his dirty work, he says that ends right now, he's going to prove to himself, the boys, the fans and everyone else that he can reach the top without any help. That sets up the HHH babyface title chase story, and hopefully this time dogs are not involved in any fashion.

This sets up a bunch of new scenarios:

You have Orton as a heel champion, and he can work programs with guys like HBK, a babyface Kane (I think he's turning relatively soon), Flair, Jericho, Benoit, Rock (if they could get him to work a PPV before Mania) and of course HHH for Mania.

You also have a story where HHH has no friends, because he's been such a strong heel over the past 2 and a half years. You could use that to build something for SurvSer where the new Evolution challenges Hunter to a 5 on 5 match (maybe War Games). But Hunter has no allies, this is where they could bring back Flair as Hunter's only ally, and then you could have an uneasy alliance with guys like HBK, Benoit and Jericho.

This also opens up a series of matches for HHH, such as against Christian, Tomko and Edge. This would give HHH a chance to run through some guys leading to Mania, and they could even save Batista for a World Title program after Wrestlemania.

The new Evolution would be interesting. With Edge and Orton having a great deal of history they could produce some great backstage skits, like Edge and Orton debating whose better between them. Tomko and Batsita would jockey for position as the dominant big man, and so on.

It would be a huge shake up, but I think they need something big, because if they stay the same course there are very few interesting programs that I can see going forward.

The Duck 09-12-2004 03:17 PM

I agree your sentiments that they're lacking any real interesting programs moving forward. If Orton keeps the title tonight and remains a face champion, there's nobody for him REALLY to face (nothing that will draw anyway). It may take a shake-up of some description but though your idea is feesable (and COULD work) I don't see it happen.

They've got to keep Orton strong though and as I mentioned in my last column *cheap plug :P* and Harvey mentioned earlier, Evolution need to batter the Legend Killer into the ground for a title change tonight.

A radical, plot such as Cynick's suggestion could be hot though...

MVP 09-12-2004 03:20 PM

I believe the title is supposed to stay on Orton becuase the house shows are booked with Orton as champion, even though those are subject to change within ours of the actual show.

And CyNick that is a great scenario; Orton, Batista, Xtian, and Edge as the new Evolution would be great, and Triple H being a self-loather. Definitely could help some well deserving workers get better pushes.

The Icon of Elisim 09-12-2004 05:16 PM

If they want the face chasing after the heel then Batista and Flair should turn on HHH and join with Orton, thus HHH can be the face and Orton the heel. I think it'd be better than jobing Orton

TheNamelessOne 09-12-2004 05:36 PM

Well if HHH wins, then the WWE may as well have not spent all of that time building up Orton over the last year or so.

:D :D :D Love it. Lose Tomko though. Him and Batista are the same character, but Batista is 500 times better right now.

I-Hate-You 09-12-2004 05:52 PM

One thing I've never got was why would Orton take a beating from Flair and Batista only to have them join him later? Why did he got through all of that pain?

Boondock Saint 09-12-2004 05:57 PM

In terms of Orton being heel again w/ Evolution and HHH being face...after HHH was the leader on the attack on Orton, do you think the fans would really feel any sympathy for him if Evolution turned on him? Wouldn't they be more like, "he got what he deserved"? I can't see it happening. But then again, the fans can be strange.

When did Batista and Flair join Orton again? It hasn't happened yet or might never happen. You mean One thing "I wouldn't get." right?

The CyNick 09-12-2004 06:48 PM

I figure with Batista and Tomko they could do some stuff where they have tension with one another. I like the idea of keeping Batista from doing any JOBs ot Hunter in order to protect him. I would just use Tomko as cannon fodder basically. Mayb even they could toss him out after he loses a match to Hunter.

As for Hunter getting sympathy, I think the reason why it would work is because he wouldn't be looking for sympathy. He would basically play up thats he's never done things on his won, always had help and now he wants to prove to himself that he's the best, on his own. I think the fans would get behind that, especially since they already cheer for him anyway. He would have to maintain his badass persona.

Yes.

It's another one of those things that doesn't make sense in wrestling.

Yeah I can see that, actually.

 That's perfect. Let's face it, fans right now don't want to cheer your "regular" babyface anymore. Everyone likes tough ass-kickers. Fans love it when the so called "good guy" acts like a heel. Well, I hope they do this situation cause I would be wayyyyy more interested in the angle then.

Triple H just spent the last 2 months tormenting a retard.

A face turn just isn't really in the books.
