The Official 2004-2005 NBA Season Thread

Go ahead and discuss the 2004-2005 season in here.

My pick to win it : Detroit Pistons

The Miz 09-16-2004 12:31 PM

The season doesn't start for another month and a half, and the Off Season thread is still running. How about you don't post anymore.

BCWWF 09-16-2004 01:45 PM

The Wolves would have won last year if Cassell was healthy, add Hudson, they are my pick

DaveWadding 09-16-2004 02:09 PM

Minnesota is your pick in everything.

BCWWF 09-16-2004 02:29 PM

In the three big sports, its totally legit that we have a chance to win them all.

NBA the clear choices are Spurs or Wolves, obviously I am going to take the Wolves, I'll spare the details.

MLB the Twins are hot going into the playoffs, anything can happen there.

NFL The Vikings will probably choke, but they have the talent offensively, if they put it together defensively they can't be thrown out of anything.

So yes, I do side with Minnesota teams, but its not like I am calling bad teams good just because they are from Minnesota. All three of those teams are legit good. If any of them was to win a major championship this year, I would predict it to be the Wolves.

DaveWadding 09-16-2004 02:40 PM

I'm teasing you, you dirty asshole. :p

BCWWF 09-16-2004 11:37 PM

I didn't realize it until now, but look at Dallas' lineup

C Dampier
PF Dirk
SF Stackhouse
SG Finley
PG Terry

That is suddenly a pretty impressive starting five, but do they have the bench to back it up?

The Icon of Elisim 09-16-2004 11:58 PM

Shawn Bradley
Marquis Daniels
Dan Dickau (I still think he can be good)
Devin Harris
Josh Howard
Alan Henderson
Paval Plodzkine

There are holes on the bench but some of the guys could easily step up if they have the chance, nonetheless they have good depth

AlphaBean 09-17-2004 12:51 AM

Pavel is my pick for ROTY.

Bigg Mike 09-17-2004 12:56 AM

Detroit pretty much didn't make any changes. They lost Okur and added McDyess which balances each other out. Darko might do something year :dunno:.
I think they still have a really good chance to capture it again.
I wish New York would make it, but that just won't be happening anytime soon.
:\

loopydate 09-17-2004 06:50 PM

I just met Darvin Ham and got my picture taken with him, Barb Farris (from the Shock), and the O'Brien trophy (and whatever they call the WNBA title).

So, naturally (even if it wasn't already), my pick to repeat is the Pistons.

Bigg Mike 09-18-2004 12:08 AM

Also, I think Denver will be maybe the top 5 in the west. I forgot how good they are/got. The biggest piece they will miss is Jon Barry, a good outside shooter. However, they bulked up by adding Kenyon Martin, alongside Nene Hilario and Marcus Camby. Nene can be used as good trade bait to land a good outside shooter to replace Barry.
Oh yeah and Rodney White.
Denver is the blue collar team in the West, kinda like Detroit in the East. No real star, just alot of really good players.

BCWWF 09-18-2004 01:06 AM

Detroit has four potential All-Stars or former all-stars still. Also, I believe that Barry is still unsigned, meaning he could go back and probably will. I may have missed something though.

DaveWadding 09-18-2004 01:09 AM

Barry signed with Atlanta...

BCWWF 09-18-2004 01:13 AM

I missed that. Sucks for him

Bigg Mike 09-18-2004 01:30 AM

I've been thinking about Charlotte lately, and I think Gerald Wallace is going to transform into a good player this year. Basically, he has to, as no one else in Charlotte looks capable of actually doing anything.
I think he'll be a good fantasy pick up when the leagues start.

BCWWF 09-18-2004 01:33 AM

They're in the West now. Move Milwaukee to the West, Orlando to KC and the West, put Charlotte back in the East and add Memphis aswell, and you've got yourself a league.

Bigg Mike 09-18-2004 01:58 AM

I thought New Orleans went to the West, not charlotte.

BCWWF 09-18-2004 02:03 AM

Oh what the fuck, I totally just fucked up the Hornets thing. My bad, but my position still stands about Orlando and Milwaukee for NO and Memphis

Bigg Mike 09-18-2004 02:08 AM

Haha, that's what I thought.

Anyway, do you see the Magic selling their team anytime soon? Are there rumors about it or something? Or just wishful thinking?

BCWWF 09-18-2004 02:21 AM

I haven't heard anything about it since, but about a month ago the Kansas City talk radio was going crazy. Apparantly the Magic don't draw well and refuse to remodel their arena. The management set it up so that they have a really good lease and can leave their arena at any time basically. At the same time Kansas City really wants a team (apparantly) and they already have a brand new arena built that the Magic could move into, I think this season? Maybe not though. Haven't really heard about anything for a while though.

Bigg Mike 09-18-2004 01:22 PM

Since the Nuggets lost Barry, it appears they are trying to get Lucious Harris, who can be an easy replacement for him. That's good news for both, as I liked Harris on the Nets, and the Nuggets can definitly benefit from a decent outside shooter coming off the bench.

BCWWF 09-18-2004 05:57 PM

They could benefit from a Clyde Drexler too :shifty:

Bigg Mike 09-19-2004 02:13 AM

All this talk about vets coming back to the NBA.
Jayson Williams, Clyde Drexler, Dennis Rodman, Zo, Michael Jordan was rumored but doesn't seem to be leading to anywhere.
I'm sure I'm forgetting someone...
Clyde Drexler was one of my favorite players, he shouldn't come back as a player, he whould should come back as a mentor.

BCWWF 09-19-2004 02:17 AM

Drexler would be so random, I don't know what he's thinking. That would be pretty cool of Jordan came back for a year and won a title with the Heat though.

Bigg Mike 09-19-2004 04:28 AM

How would it be cool?
How many times is this guy going to retire then return??
I can understand these guys wanting to play again, but they should've extended their careers instead of retiring early, and made better decisions. If they want to come back, come back as mentors to help the younger generation experience what they did.
Like Clyde or MJ can help Wade or someone like him. Dwayne Wade is my favorite rookie from last years class, and was my favorite over 'Bron and Melo before the draft even took place. I was glad he went to Miami, and he did well playing out of his natural position. I think he could benefit from learning from Drexler or Jordan, and I think that is exactly what they should do. He was the only younger player on the Olympic squad to take his role as it was without complaining.

Apprentice 09-20-2004 03:26 AM

A bit off topic but I heard David Aldridge isn't with ESPN anymore. Any news on that? I'm surprised cuz he seemed to be a mainstay with the NBA crew.

BCWWF 09-20-2004 12:59 PM

No idea? I don't know where else he would have gone since he was a pretty big on a pretty big network??

BCWWF 10-21-2004 04:04 PM

Did anybody see that Carmelo Anthony was caught with some marijuana in his backpack yesterday? Lol, its such BS he is claiming that "a friend borrowed the backpack and left it in there" That is clearly such bs, but you know he gets out of any trouble.

Apprentice 10-21-2004 04:10 PM

Yea, of course he's gonna deny it. But if he does end up confessing, that'll be a suspension of like 1 or 2 games or something. I think Odom was caught like twice already so the next one I think would be a very big suspension... but i could be wrong.

Good job Carmelo! Try not to end up like Isiah Rider.

BCWWF 10-21-2004 04:16 PM

I could see the Nuggets falling apart this year. Carmelo could easilly hit a big sophomore slump and add Kenyon Martin to the mix too now. There are so many bad attitudes on that team, they might as well add Rodman.

Keep dreaming, dude.

BCWWF 10-21-2004 04:28 PM

Since K-Mart hasn't already jacked Nene in the face, Carmelo hasn't been caught with pot and benched for being selfish in the olympics, I think theres a few attitude problems on the team.

RoXer 10-21-2004 07:42 PM

Suns are looking pretty hot...because...they're...suns....GET IT?

pg Steve Nash
sg Q. Richardson/Joe Johnson
sf Shawn Marion
pf Amare Stoudamare
c Voskuhl/Hunter

Cabarkaba, Jacobson, Barbosa, and Eisley can come off the bench. I forgot who we drafted this year. Is he any good? We definitly need some help at center, even though Hunter is awesome in my ESPN 2K5 season. I should definitly start attending some games this year. I think now is the time for people in Phoenix to jump on the "We Support The Suns" bandwagon.

Still rooting for the Warriors and Raptors. Outlook not so good though. :/

Q WILL, mark my words, start. They didn't put all that money out for his ass to sit on the bench. The guy they drafted this year's name is Jackson Vroman. I don't know anything about him, however. When have the Suns EVER been good at Center since we had Neal Walk...seriously.

RoXer 10-21-2004 08:03 PM

Yeah, Vroman. I taded him and Eisley for a first round pick. Cleared up some cap room too.

Yeah, we've never had a good center. Then again, I've only lived here for like 5 years so I don't know the entire histiry BUT STILL.

You haveta admit though, they're looking pretty good this year.

Innovator 10-22-2004 02:25 AM

GO NEW YORK GO NEW YORK GO

BabyHugger 10-22-2004 02:36 AM

I dn if this was said yet, but arent they going to have a lockout too>?

BCWWF 10-22-2004 04:32 AM

Not that I've heard of? :?:

DegenerationY 10-22-2004 06:34 AM

The Warriors will have a winning record this season. I see it on the horizon.
