Rate The Wrestler - Day 33 - "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan

Well I deceided to close up Big Vito day as a overall lack of interest...however he did score fairly well, with a 60....Today Wrestler is none other then the man, who may be the main reason, Wrestling has become what it is today, In Hollywood Hulk Hogan, The Man must people think of, when they hear the word Wrestling...

Also, keep in mind...I know Hogan isn't that great of a Wrestler, Which by all means, would give some people a reason to give him a 1...Listin, I know he isn't that talented in the ring...But think about his Charisma, Overness. Archivements, ETC Before you deceide to judge him a low score...because, well he has done alot for the business...

6. Shitty wrestler, fucking politician, but was entertaining when I was younger.

SuperSlim 09-23-2004 08:56 PM

i would have to give him an 8

he was the man that made the sport what it is today true, but in his later years in it he is also one of the causes of some of it's destruction.

Ring ability: 4. Punch, punch , punch, boot, leg drop, pin. Pissed me off.

Overness: 10. Really, he should be a 15. Few have ever been close or over the Hulkster in this regard

Politics: 2. Plus he's a control freak. C'mon, the guy never jobbed before the Ultimate Warrior. He held the WWF title for like, YEARS. He got better at putting people over later on, which is why he didn't get a 1.

Mic skill: 10. A genius at cutting promos, but thats because I was a Hogan mark at one time.

Value to the Industry(my new category): 10. This should be a 20. Hulk was a big player in bringing wrestling mainstream.

Overall rank: 7.2

CYCLOPTERSAURUS 09-23-2004 09:39 PM

3.8. He's absolutely horrible in the ring, and he's a horrible backstage politician. But there's no denying that he's extremely over, god knows how. I always found his mic skills rather dull and repetitive.

Hell, I should give him an even lower score to counter Savior's 10 that counters DW's 6, and drag the average to what I think it should be. But then again, that's a stupid idea, because everybody has a right to their opinion, and this is a simple survey to determine people's opinions, not undermine them.

People need to stop having fits over this thing, it's not like it's the end of the world if your favorite wrestler gets a low average score on a poll.

C'mon guys, you can at least justify your overall 10 with some comments other than: "Its Hulk Hogan".

Shawn Mega 09-23-2004 10:13 PM

Ring Ability-10, he knew how to tell a story and draw fans into his matches. He had the ability to put on great matches, just watch Mania 5. He did'nt have to put on great matches all the time because he was over, kinda like Cena.

Work rate-10, any man who wrestle full time over 45 years old gets a 10 in my booked. He always kept himself in shape.

Overness-10,Most Popular Ever

Mic Skills-10, when Hogan talk, you listen

Entertainment Factor-10,he always made me watch.

Overall-10

Thriller 09-23-2004 10:15 PM

As a man who always use to cheer for the bad guys Hogan wasnt one of my favourites. But considering what he has done for the industry and the fact we all probabally woulnt be on these boards if not for Hogan i give a 9.Losing 1 for his lack of wrestling ability.

10.

For all his faults, Hogan really is the one guy who took wrestling into the main stream.

KayfabeMan 09-24-2004 12:40 AM

Actually, Mega is right.

There are different types of in-ring ability. Hogan worked a very old-school type style, one that is STILL over with the fans today, and one that allowed him to have a career that is going as long as his is.

The match starts out slow, builds up, rest holds, good guy - bad guy back and forth, a few bigger spots, with heel heat - face pops, boom, the finish, and match is over. I don't think many can truly understand how that works without actually being in a ring and seeing for themselves.

Sure, Hogan wasn't Hart in the ring (but he could take care of himself if needed), and on the same token, Hart wasn't Hogan either. Macho Man is no Benoit, but Benoit isn't Macho Man either (although Savage could wrestle a bit as well).

Same thing with tag teams, how LOD weren't WRESTLERS (very few are, if ever) - but they had excellent in ring skills and psychology. The Nasty Boys again, although clumsy at times, had skills enough to tell stories and keep people entertained. Neither of those teams are The Steiners (c. 1980's / early-mid 1990's), but The Steiners weren't LOD.

HeartBreakMan2k 09-24-2004 12:42 AM

Yes, there are different styles of wrestling. It just so happens that the type he uses bored me shitless. So he gets a low score from me.

CosaNostra 09-24-2004 12:45 AM

I remember a skit that Vince Mcmahon arranged when Randy Savage and Hulk were in WCW and mocked them using impersonators. The Hulk impersonator said "I'm HULK and I NEVER lose".

Everything was about HIM. Sure, he was the biggest thing going at the time, but there are other guys working too. The wrestling industry is bigger than any one guy, even if it is Hulk Hogan. I just can't justify giving a guy like that a perfect score.

Hardkore Kidd J 09-24-2004 12:51 AM

I'd say 5.8 Now the reason I am giving him a low score is because I don't really know too much about his early days I know about the Hulk Hogan who was in WWE who fought Rock at Wrestlemania. I didn't see Hogan in WCW or anytime before then, But I did see him picking up and slamming Andre for his first WWF title. ANd If you ask me that's quite the accomplishment. He's had his own cartoon. He was way way way over and his promos were top notch. I got to give the man some credit. The reason I'm not giving him more is I don't too much about the past Hogan and one more thing. Judging by the DVD, Hogan is really a nice guy to all his fans.

It would have been decent of him to put over Andre clean, just once.

Shawn Mega 09-24-2004 01:03 AM

If AJ Styles or Pillman gets a higher score than Hogan, something is really wrong. Alot of people on here don't have common sense.

I don't care about the stupid rating system no more.
TOP 5 Wrestlers of ALL TIME
1.Austin
2.Hogan
3.Flair
4.Mick Foley
5.The Rock

Andre beat Hogan clean twice before Hogan had the title... Shea Stadium in '81 I believe was one of the times...

anyways I gave him a 10, because nobody has done what Hogan has for wrestling, no matter how shitty he is in the ring

Probably should be under another subject, top 5 "sports entertainers" then top 5 wrestlers (technical side).

If you consider Mick Foley a wrestler, then you're nuts. He's a spot machine. He can have a great match when he's carried to one (ie: Shawn Michaels). Don't get me wrong, I'd rate him highly but that's bias. Hogan couldn't lace
wrestler's boots.

Took 09-24-2004 01:31 AM

Hogan deserves this 5.3 he's recieving from me. They go mostly for what he has accomplished and done for the industry. Otherwise, if they didn't count for shit, he'd get about just that..shit all.

Mind Games vs. FOley was HBK greatest match ever. Foley did most of the work in that match.

Foley greatest match can be debated from his WCW days. In my opinion, Foley vs. HHH in a Hell In A Cell is his greatest match ever.

You trying to tell me that this whole list is based on In-Ring skills. It seems like everybody is judging on overall performances. Which one is it?

First of all, I'll be damned if that was Shawn Michaels' best match. Second of all, Mick Foley himself said that was his greatest match.

And no, the whole list is not based on in ring skill. It's based on a number of things, Hogan isn't the best overall. He may be the best flat out entertainer, but he loses a ton of points based on in ring talent, work rate and politics to me. Most people don't see politics the way you do, they are bad to most. Plus Hogan didn't bust his ass unless it was a big match that would up his stock.
