Best War Movies

"Platoon"

Easily the greatest war movie about Vietnam ever made, directed by a guy who'd been on the frontlines and seen the wreckless and horrible nature of this war first hand, Oliver Stone. The character development of Charlie Sheen's Chris Taylor is the clencher, but there is so much to this movie that it has to be seen at least twice to really get the full effect. Not to mention the way this movie took America by storm in 1986, winning an Emmy for best picture, and being critically acclaimed as the first Vietnam movie to truly capture the nature of the war. A timeless, fantastic movie.

Everything mentioned in this thread is great.

The Longest Day is an awesome movie, one that I really didn't expect to be. It's really old, only a little over a decade after the war ended. Something about that just gives a little more credibility to the film, to me...
