The Grudge

Looks fuckin scary

What Would Kevin Do? 10-16-2004 01:41 AM

Looks badass I say. I'm trying to convince me easily frightened girlfriend to go see it. I'm also trying to get my hands on a copy of the original Japanese version. Has anyone here seen it, or no if it's good?? Triple A, I'm looking at you here.

DegenerationY 10-16-2004 02:12 AM

Isn't Sara Michelle Gellar in it? Reason 1 not to see it...

Although if i'm thinking of the correct movie, the previews make the movie seem pretty creepy.

I'll watch it in a day or two and let you know.

Dark Kane 10-16-2004 09:51 AM

Have no interest in this film at all, I will wait for DVD on this one.

FacelessBum 10-16-2004 09:52 AM

It seems kinda gay.

I thought it was part 2 of Darkness Falls at first.

Now a real good suspense movie that I want to see that is out is The Forgotten.

omg looks awesome just havent had the money until today

And what sucks is there are 4 other movies I want to see too.

KleptoKlown 10-16-2004 01:49 PM

Its PG-13 so its not going to be that scary.

Rating doesnt really matter imo.

loopydate 10-16-2004 10:24 PM

My prediction:

Opening weekend grosses will be enormous, with fanboys turning out in droves to see Sarah Michelle Gellar in the shower. However, the fact that there is no frontal in this PG-13 "thriller" will lead to negative word-of-mouth on "Buffy" message boards across the world, and "Grudge" will take a second-week nosedive.

YOUR Hero 10-16-2004 10:43 PM

Looks cookie cutter.

The Diva 10-17-2004 05:58 AM

I laughed when I saw the commercial the first time, I thought it was suppose to be funny, then I found out it's "serious" I guess so I was kind of more sad than anything because it looks horrible.

yeah, i thought it was like a spoof too...that pale looking girl that comes down the stair in the preview looks a lot like the girl in The Ring.

and a kid meowing...comeon

Crimson 10-17-2004 06:08 PM

It looks kinda like The Ring for some reason. I think it'll be pretty good ,better than most of you are expecting.

SuperSlim 10-18-2004 09:57 AM

when I saw the previews I saw another Ring spinoff.

Doesn't look like it's gonna be as scary as it is bein made out to be. And if it is to be as scary as Darkness Falls I will be pissed.

Blue Demon 10-18-2004 10:48 AM

I think it looks pretty good....I'll have to wait and see....gona go check it out

I do't know I though Cruel Intentions was pretty good and she played a major part

Fox 10-21-2004 07:58 PM

Like "The Ring," "The Grudge" is based off of a huge hit in Japan, and those damn Japs know how to make good horror movies, and tend not to rehash the same shit over and over again like Hollywood does.

I'm interested for sure.

AareDub 10-23-2004 03:21 AM

Two words about this movie: SUCKS ASS!!

No real scares at all, no suspense, no thrill.... just nothing. The directing style is very anti-climactic, they get to a good part then cut away to something boring again. Hmm boring, that's a good word to describe the whole movie. Most of the little teenagers in the theatre were way over reacting by jumping and screaming at everything.

I had a lot more complaints about this movie, but it frustrates me to think about it. It just left a bad taste in my mouth. I have seen worse, but most of those were downloaded. It really pisses me off when I pay to see a bad movie. Oh well 2/5 stars.

blueskies 10-23-2004 03:23 AM

Saw it tonight.. thought it was pretty good.

Fox 10-23-2004 05:06 AM

Gotta agree with AareDub, it was boring. Not to mention pointless.

I also had the same experience as he did; teenagers over reacting and jumping too high and screaming too loud. The unfortunate thing is they were my friends. I think I was the only one of the 8 of us who was completely uninterested during this movie, and my girlfriend kept giving me looks like "Why the hell aren't you screaming like the rest of us?"

There is no storyline, the whole movie is jumbled in a very un-artistic style, and the only scares are cheap ones (i.e. "pop out" scares).

A waste of $8.25, but at least the popcorn was good.

Shaggy 10-23-2004 02:59 PM

So far everyone I have talked to said it wasnt that good...everyone says that he has almost every horror movie cliche ever made in it

HeartBreakMan2k 10-23-2004 03:21 PM

General consensus I've gotten is that is has no plot which kills off all the things that are supposed to scare you. There's no build up for them. I'll probably see it for the hell of it, if I do I'll post a review.

kutelilvampiress 10-23-2004 03:51 PM

i wanna see that movie lol i luv scary movies but i cant go anywhere *cryes all weekend*

I take that back this movie sucks. I am a big fan of scary movies and this one started pretty good...but it went downhill pretty quick. It isn't scary at all , I was :| like this after each "scary moment", I was disappointed.

Azriel 10-24-2004 10:40 PM

I thought it was decent as well, but not great either.

waht

If you have no interest in it at all, why would you even bother wasting money on it on DVD

(note that I'm not saying that the DVD would be a waste, since I haven't even seen it, but it is quite a bit ridiculous to spend money on something you have no desire to see)

SuperSlim 10-25-2004 10:08 AM

man seems like more bad reviews of it then the aight ones. I may skip out on it unless I'm talked into goin with a group of folks

What Would Kevin Do? 10-25-2004 11:38 AM

Eh, not as bad as people make it out to be IMO. The directing style didn't bother me that much, as I've seen movies filmed like that before, and I understand the point of doing it. I found the movie entertaining.

For the people who disliked the directing, what would you have done differently? Keep in mind this is by no means a slasher flick, or a fast paced horror movie. Unless they wanted to be more graphic with things, there wasn't much else they could do before switching scenes.

Hardkore Kidd J 10-25-2004 07:23 PM

That movie was pretty good. Just saw it today.

Zelda 10-25-2004 09:26 PM

The acting sucked and they made the plot too simple by always showing things that happened in the past in ways that were less than subtle. The ghosts or spirits were not answering any logic. Like in most movies, ghosts will have certain rules that they must follow, but here, they just did anything they wanted to do. We spent the movie exchanging jokes with two guys sitting next to us, so we had a pretty good time anyway.

Boondock Saint 10-25-2004 09:50 PM

Made about $40 mil this weekend. Holy crap.

Japanese remakes are kicking ass lately.

DMI 10-26-2004 03:56 PM

I thought it was gay. It had a chance to get good and it didnt. The best part was the previews before the movie. Looks like some good scary ones are coming out soon.

To explain the way I felt about it I'll do the simplest thing possible, relate it to sex. The scenes continued to make their way towards the exciting moment (orgasm) and would then cut you off before you got there. Now a little tease here and there can even be a good thing, but after the second time they did it I was left with a case of blue balls so bad that I didn't want to see any more of that bitch. It's not the cutting away that bothered me as much as it seemed like they were cutting away a little too early.

The past and present interchanging between f'd up scene cuts doesn't bother me, heck, Memento is like my favorite movie of all time. Anyway maybe I can't put it into better terms because I'm not a film student or anything, but it just felt like it was done wrong enough that even I was left with "blue balls"
