for those of you in bands and shit

i decided this would be a cool idea for a thread.

Tell us all what you're doing, what you play, if you're been writing, recording, playing live and stuff. funny stories. cool shite like that. plus keep us updated on the progress of your band and stuff.

mine... err... i finally got the whole band thing going last week, we got 4 songs wrote in as many days, and got 2 recorded, minus lyrics as well.

aiming to be gigging sometime around new year, hopefully.

i love you guys :'(

After my old band split up, I've been playing and recording accoustic stuff with my mate at uni.
I'm just about to set up a new band, should be playing our first gig in a couple of weeks playing some Cure covers.
Oh and I'm also currently looking for a drummer and bassist for another project I've got going.

asphyXy 11-08-2004 11:19 AM

My main band, Civil Atrophy, doesn't have a drummer right now [fucking Air Force ], so we're pretty dormant. We have about 10 songs complete, though. I play guitar and vocals.

My band Nihilist Bliss practices every so often and we have a few songs in the works - nothing really complete yet though. Our drummer often works on the weekends, so we do a lot of practice without him. I play guitar.

My band Sharletts Webb plays gigs all the time. We play blues and classic rock stuff. I play bass.

My band Deceptio Visus is a solo black metal project. I've recorded a few things and intend to record more once I get the chance. I play everything with programmed drums.

My band CRNF is some punk band I put together with some kids from my town. We don't really do anything. We practice a half hour every two weeks and then go to Burger King or something. I play guitar.

I'm in a few other bands that haven't practiced in a while but are somehow still active. I'm not really concerned with them as much as the above bands.

Im Vocalist for Thrash Melodic Metal band Seregon. Idea came about Dec 03 / Jan 04, 5 Members, King Jericho on Rythm Guitar (Mustaine's secret love child). Our lead guitarist has toured all over England and peaked by playing the infamous Bloodstock Festival over here in England. Our bassist has been in numerous bands and was a foudnation member in me and KJ's first band. Our drummer has also been in several bands, his last band was with our lead guitarist and got through to the semi-finals of a national battle of the bands.

All of us have had a pretty big muiscal background and ahve been doing what we love for a number of years, at the moment, we are practicing and writing in the studio and preapring for gig's at xmas/jan, few days back I sent a couple of our songs to a friend who's sister happens to be a pretty big promoter in the South West of England / Bristol scene and we have been offered gigs left, right and centre.

Safe to say, when we start going, were not stopping. :)

That's a shame, I'm in my last year of uni so ideally I'd be looking at something more long term and I'm planning on moving back to Birmingham.

King Jericho 11-08-2004 02:11 PM

Pretty much what JJ said...

But yeh the sound is more of the thrash direction because of my style of riffing: early Sepultura, Megadeth and some Kreator stuff mixed around, with some Nightwish esq. solo's from the guy on lead guitar.

The logo which JJ posted is a very early idea done up by a mate of our drummers, to check out his stuff go here: www.davemaclean.net
The logo will probably look a bit more Thrash metal than this, but we didn't just want a typical Power/Thrash metal logo.

If you want some songs we have put together ask me or JJ.

I am not in a band but I have been playing guitar for a good two years and have just started writing lyrics and music. I do play with my cousin who can play base so we just jam at the moment. We mainly play punk rock music like Green Day.

Penner 11-08-2004 06:27 PM

My band really has just started up, we had a few lineup changes but I think but I think we're finalized for now.

It pretty much stands now that my friend is lead singer and guitar, I'm lead guitar and possibly backup singer, my other friend is bass, and my other friend is drummer.

We have like 3 of the lead singer's songs going pretty good. We are also tried some covers. Right now our cover of Giving Up by Silverstein  sounds pretty good :y: We'll probably get some more songs down and maybe one more cover.

We're basically punk, emo, screamo (possibly), that type deal. We have a bit of screaming in our songs, but not a lot.

I think we're gonna have a band thing going at the school and our band is going to be playing with some other bands at a festival type dealie.

We have to jam more often and practice a lot though :y:

samichna 11-08-2004 06:38 PM

Penner, that sounds hot.

Some guys I know invited me to jam with their band. It went pretty well, and it looks like I might end up being their rhythm or possibly lead guitarist.

Penner 11-08-2004 06:40 PM

we should jam sometime :$

samichna 11-08-2004 06:43 PM

And perhaps spit some Eminem rhymes while we are at it.

:shifty:

Penner 11-08-2004 06:44 PM

lol i still have those, tidus always laughs really hard whenever i put them on

samichna 11-08-2004 06:48 PM

Little bastard.

Penner 11-08-2004 06:50 PM

hahahaha "you know come to think of that newstead's really gay"

hahahaha

samichna 11-09-2004 10:07 AM

I've only played with them once, because one of the guys goes to University in another city. :(

The Mask 11-10-2004 02:59 PM

wooo, my bassist has a job locally for a while, so i will be able to practise lots. this is going to rock, mothertruckers.

The Miz 11-10-2004 05:06 PM

I have 4 bands.

Raging Clitori (main band) - i play guitar and sing. We play industrial reggae with synths and horns. I dunno just weird sounding shit with really goofy lyrics about scat porn and anal rape. Midly popular around town.

GWPI (guys with penis infections) - My friend's punk band that I joined a couple months ago. I play drums. It's pretty fun

Outer Circle - Some old hippies needed a bass player so I joined cuz it's easy and i get paid. The music and people are horrible, I don't care though.

Mike Hunt & The AssPirates - Me and the guys from 1st 2 bands listed's side project joke band. Our songs are punk with Anal Cunt type lyrics. We only play out every months cuz it would get old. We got banned from one club cuz we our bass player was drunk and masturbated and pissed everywhere on stage. I play guitar and vocals.

Smitty 11-10-2004 05:12 PM

My band Monster Mash just formed about two months ago. We're a hardcore band, and I play guitar. Next Friday we are playing in a local Battle Of The Bands. So far we have an intro, one original, and we cover Cro-Mags, 7 Seconds, Inside Out, and Youth Of Today.

Good luck dude.

The Miz 11-10-2004 08:03 PM

What 7 Seconds song

OssMan 11-10-2004 08:22 PM

I recorded a cover of Crazy Train with a drummer, guitarist and singer. I played bass.

we are not a band though.

samichna 11-10-2004 08:49 PM

Dammit, I wanna jam now.

mitchables 11-10-2004 11:49 PM

My band, Decanting the Pride, was Townsville's first screamo/hardcore/whatever band, and is currently in the midst of recording our full-length CD. I play bass, sing backup vocals and scream.

This CD is going to sound immeasurably better than our last venture, because we have time on our side this time. If you remember, with the EP, we recorded it over a period of 3 days, so many sacrifices had to be made to get it all done on time. However, with this CD, we're recording it over a number of weeks, and basically won't finish it until we're 100% happy with it.

For this to be possible we've had to cut down on live gigs but up until this point we have been playing lots and lots of shows locally and working up an impressive following. There's already hype amongst the music scene in Townsville about our CD, which is really weird. I was in McDonald's with our drummer and like 2 girls came up and were all, "You two are from Decanting the Pride, right? Is it true you guys are recording again? That would RULE."

It's pretty crazy, we are forever getting recognised by people. I like it but I don't.

Anyway, the CD is entirely original. As it stands there will be 10 tracks on it, but more will probably find their way on there as we progress through the recording process.

Even if I hate my job and my degree and the fact that 90% of my time is chewed up by both, I will always have my band and music, and that makes it all better.

DaveWadding 11-10-2004 11:54 PM

Mitchhhhhh when you finish that shit, send me a copy, and I can get it to my sis who's trying to get a gig doing music stuff and she needs awesome artists, so.... ;)

mitchables 11-10-2004 11:58 PM

Aiight, well hopefully it'll be launched by mid-late January.

DaveWadding 11-11-2004 12:03 AM

FakeLaser 11-11-2004 10:16 AM

I play guitar and sing. We are kind of a joke band though because my voice is what the spaniards call el terrible.

Champion of Europa 11-11-2004 03:08 PM

Sometimes I will use a crazy falsetto for no reason. That's as far as my band experience goes.

StrongMad 11-12-2004 01:00 AM

I've finally put together a band. It's called Buh-Dunk-A-Dunk Funk. (its not a permanant name, yet.) i play guitar. We don't have a singer. The shows we play are instrumental jam sessions, and the songs have been known to last over 20 minutes. We haven't written any songs, so at live shows, all of these are made up on the spot, save a few covers that we do that turn into jam sessions anyway. That's about it. Hopefully we will record some stuff sooner or later.

A hardcore band that plays actual hardcore music. That's a rarity these days. Every band that claims to be hardcore around here does In Flames style melodies with a bunch of chopped up open E [or whatever they downtune to] thrown in between the melodies for no reason. Good luck.

Just got through another idea for a logo from our artist. :)

Danny Electric 11-18-2004 12:37 AM

Just got back from playing an accoustic night with this Cure covers thing.
Played 'Lovesong' and 'A Forest' and both went well, alot of positive feedback and people telling us to take the project up seriously.
Also I got a track down on my Uni's rock society CD.

The Mask 11-18-2004 12:51 AM

the cure

Danny Electric 11-18-2004 01:16 AM

I loved singing both the songs, it's the best I felt onstage in ages.
