Anyone else miss the old Cena?

Don't get me wrong, Cena is my favourite current wrestler right now, i'm a huuuuuuuuuuuge Cena Mark, but dammit, when he was a heel, before the crowd jumped on the bandwaggon and turned him face he was so much better.

His Raps didn't appeal to the crowd, but to what he felt, and they were less... gay for lack of better word, but most of all, barely anyone liked him. In school i'd do the world life hand thing and get laughed at, and be like "WORD LIFE BITCHES" and then they'd laugh some more, but now if i say word life people will be like "yeah man i love cena" BUT YOU HATED HIM BEFORE YOU STUPID JACK ASS!!!!!!

remember when Cena won the #1 contendor tournament, who the fuck expected that? He Beat Undertaker, and then Chris Benoit, and did a pretty good fucking job against Lesnar at Backlash 2003. I remember the first time i heard basic thuganomics, i think he was facing rikishi when his theme debuted, i was marking out to that theme and watching vidoes on wwe.com just to listen to it again

yeah, he was pretty gay when he was with B2 or whatever the hell his name was, but after that he was the man

right, i'm done with my rant, but i want Cena to win the WWE title, do a heel turn, and keep the damn belt forever

Funky Fly 11-21-2004 09:46 PM

Blame Brian Gerwitz. That asshole decided he wanted to make Cena's raps funny, so what you hear now isn't Cena's own material anymore. He's basically writing Cena's current stuff for him.

Loose Cannon 11-21-2004 09:50 PM

Wow, was going to post the exact same thread an hour ago, but didn't  Yeah, I was going to say how Heel Cena was DEF one of a kind, especially in this day and age. He didn't cower and hide, he didn't run, he stepped up and challenged his foe right away. I just watched this promo Cena did when Brock put him out and he was like "You like ending careers Brock, well next week I come to Smackdown and end your's." That was so awesome

Plus the THROWBACK STUFF Immediately made me a fan. :y: :y:

Funky Fly 11-21-2004 09:52 PM

Anyone notice that Cena rarely hits the throwback at all anymore?

The Naitch 11-21-2004 10:19 PM

Cena's best rap was the one he cut on Brock

Some of you may think I'm crazy
That's ok, I'll silence them all
You're a neanderthal, so I'll use words that are small

Big Brock Lesnar, Here comes the pain
God build me strong, forget to give me brain

You hop around all day like there's potatoes up your crack
That's a nice tattoo...of your mother on your back

I forget how the rest goes...

HeartBreakMan2k 11-21-2004 10:47 PM

Yo, People think I'm crazy. That's what everyone is telling me.
That me beating you, is like you winning a spelling bee.
That's okay because tonight I silence them all.
You're a neanderthal. So I'll use words that are small.
"Big Brock Lesnar. Here comes the pain.
God build me strong, Forgot to give me brain."
You hop around all day like there's potatoes in your crack.
That's a nice tattoo you have, of your mother on your back.
Yo I'm untouchable you can't beat my ability.
I'm like a basic math problem Brock, you just can't finish me.

his gimmick sucks, always has, and will. Should anyone take a wigger seriously? I cant see that man becoming some big icon the way he is.

Hardkore Kidd J 11-21-2004 11:00 PM

He was def. better as a heel. I loved him when he was a heel.

Anybody Thrilla 11-21-2004 11:18 PM

Believe it or not, white people can love hip hop too. "Wigger" is such a fucking ridiculous term. I love Cena's gimmick, basically because it's never been done before (and don't say shit about K-Kwik, that was NOT the same). Cena has the persona to become a big star in a big way, and none of it has to do with the fact that he's white.

The CyNick 11-21-2004 11:44 PM

Wearing jerseys, sneakers and liking hip hop doesn't make you a wigger.

Anyway, I liked Cena as a heel, but it was inevitable that he would become a face, especially when they did the program with Brock. They totally booked that to make Cena look like a face. He got injured, talked about getting revenge, never backed down, and went toe to toe with Brock. Plus, any act that gets over, eventually the fans will turn baby. It happened with Austin in 96/97, happened with Rock in 98/99, was happening with Hunter in 2001 until they did the 2 man power trip, and so on.

The part that I didn't like was when they stopped letting him use his own material. Since then, his promos have went from edgy/cool to appealing to 3rd graders. They also had the problem of catering to higher standards that network TV has, but even if he was on RAW, it wouldn'd be that much different.

But the bottom line is that he's still over, so you cant say its not working. I liked what I saw this past week, because they finally booked him to take something seriously, so its good to see he can do that when asked.

Gone Mad 11-21-2004 11:58 PM

Not only was he with B-Squared, who got fired like a week or two after he got that gimmick, but Cena was partners with RedDog (Rodney Mack), and look where he is now. Just thought I mention that.

I liked him around the end of the Brock Lesnar era. There he had those promos that made you cheer for him, even if he was the heel. Sure, he is alright now, but with movies and tame promos, he is just ok. Nothing more and nothing less.

John la Rock 11-22-2004 02:25 AM

Cena's fine in my book. He's the most over guy on Smackdown right now. He just needs a new finishing move

i don't think he needs a new finisher, he just needs to start doing it properly. before he would lift them up and fall down with them, now he just throws them off his shoulder, it looks horrible when he does it that way.

Bad Guy 11-22-2004 03:08 AM

You mean "greeny tighty whities" Cena? No thanks.

That's my favourite of his.

I really think Cena should actually start rapping instead of just rhyming his sentences. Have him play John Cena. Neither a face or a heel. Have him come out and insult the crowds when they lose at a sport, maybe have him mention them in a few words when they win in a positive light. Have him talk trash about their celebrities, have him talk about how he's going to kickass, etc. Cena has already been seperated from the rest of the roster, why should face and heel rules apply to him? All it does is limit his abilites. I think for everytime Cena is referred to as tough by Tazz or Michael Cole, it should be followed with less positive words. Have both commentators show a personal dislike of Cena, etc.

I just don't think Cena should have a picture painted for him by the WWE, but have one shaped around him when he enters a building.

Didn't he also use the line:

"Your finishers the F-5?
Yeah, well mines the F-U"

I think it has been done before a few times ago now, I forget who it was but I read something about some other fat white guy who used to portray a rapper in WWF. He sucked though. I forgot his name.

Not in that rap promo. He used it in another rap promo when he was out because of Brock I think.

SuperSlim 11-22-2004 11:29 AM

as a heel Cena was the man.

as a face, Cena is less of a man.

Hired Hitman 11-22-2004 11:30 AM

Heel Cena > Face Cena

Who ever heard of a Clean Rapper :|

SuperSlim 11-22-2004 11:31 AM

Nah, it was in this promo when he was on the computer talking about "downloading viruses to make his harddrive crash, and make his face bleed"

LK 11-22-2004 03:11 PM

"Watch you drown and not throw a rope,
This is jail Brock,
We inmates,
You just dropped the soap,
Word Life"

Cena was definetly better as a heel.

P.N. News. The difference with Cena, however, is that he actually has some semblance of talent.

Azriel 11-22-2004 03:19 PM

Cena definitely lost his edge after he turned face

Anybody Thrilla 11-22-2004 03:23 PM

Everybody loses their edge after they turn face. The name of this thread basically should have been "Anyone else prefer heels over faces?"

Dorkchop 11-22-2004 04:40 PM

Cena is really good, and I do agree that he was better before he was funny all the time. Funny sometimes is great, but not all the time for a hardcore rapper.

I'd like his raps more if he actually rapped them, and not just speak them.

loopydate 11-22-2004 05:13 PM

I pretty much agree with everyone here. Heel Cena was as close to edgy as WWE lets themselves get anymore, and he's a really good writer. His promos were crisp, and even though the gimmick started as a joke, he made you forget that in a hurry (except when WWE decided to job him out to Rikishi in "rap-offs").

Now that Gerwitz is writing his rhymes, it's pathetic. He's still a good performer, and he does the best he possibly can with what he's given, but his promos are basically just nursery rhymes full of poop and gay jokes.

Keep him face, but let him write his own stuff.

V 11-22-2004 07:39 PM

remember when he was a face at first, and he'd make the crowd finish his last word which was an obvious swear word... i liked that, did he write that stuff?

If so, he'd be really good as a face who wrote his own material, I really can't understand why the WWE changes everything that's good, they try to make it better but seem to fail most of the time.

Brian Christopher and His other wigger buddy...scotty too hotty. All lame, no matter who it is.

Mr. Nerfect 11-23-2004 02:41 AM

I think it would be good to have Cena come to the ring and cut a promo during his entrace music. When it comes to the first verse, just cut out the lyrics and have Cena cut a rap about how he's got the US Title around his waist and all Jesus has is Carlito's paste. Let him say whatever and however he wants. As logn as it is relevent to his opponent and/or who he is interrupting in the ring.

Batsu 11-23-2004 03:13 AM

Cena was at his best against Brock Lesnar.

Imagi-Nation 11-23-2004 06:51 AM

Aint no hydraulics in that car
You got a sexual sickness
Your car bounces up and down
Coz you sit on the stickshift

Something along those lines.
That was a great rap about Eddie.
