Lemony Snicket's a Series of Unfortunate Events

I wasn't too interested in this movie when I heard about it, but the more trailers I see for it the more interested I am. It seems like it'll be a bit more unique than the average children's movie. It seems darker.

What are your views on the movie?

DaveWadding 12-16-2004 09:10 PM

should be good.

I think I'll rent it two years from now.

I didn't like the books at all, they became "mainstream" I guess. the girl in that movie is pretty cute though. I dunno I might see it.

Funky Fly 12-16-2004 10:32 PM

I will probably see it in Canada.

Boondock Saint 12-16-2004 11:22 PM

Gonna see it.

Didnt care for it when I first saw the trailers....then I thought I would give it a shot just because Jim Carrey is in it. Now the trailers have all caught me in and I want to see it just to see it.

There will be more than one Lemony Snicket movie because if I remember what I heard correctly...this one is based on books 1-2 and 3 of the series. And I believe they said that there were 7 books right now and in the end there would be 9

A Series of Unfortunate Events" is the name of the series of books (numbering 11 as of October 2004; the series is projected to run to thirteen volumes).

Is the author actually named Lemony Snicket or is that Carrey's character?

el fregadero 12-17-2004 12:32 AM

That's not Carrey's name in the movie, but there is no way it's the author's name.

Azriel 12-17-2004 12:53 AM

Thats the author's penname. I'm a Carrey fan, so I'll definitely try to see this. The whole thing seems like Roald Dahl for the twenty-first century.

The author is fucking hillarious. He was on a local radio station in NC one day on "The Zone" and he cracked me up.

Good flick.

It's definitely not a "kid's movie," even though it's sort of being promoted as such. It's really dark and there are a couple of scenes that would have filled my diapers as a child.

Jim Carrey is fantastic, and the kids all do a really good job. The baby steals the movie, imo.

Looks good. I've read 1-9 since I got more than a little tired since the same fucking thing happens again and again.

Kids get a new person to live with

Count Olaf shows up

Nobody believes them

All hell breaks loose

Violet thinks of an invention that saves them

They get away

That main chick in it is from Melbourne.

It's hit and miss, disjointed and frusterating to watch at times. It's a movie that tries to be a kids movie in style and writing but in theme and reality is unsuitable.

Yeah, those are pritty much my thoughts on it.I saw it on Christmas night with my little girl cousin, my sister, and my uncle, and my little cousin kept getting scared and latching onto my arm. It was so cute.

Supreme Olajuwon 12-31-2004 02:26 AM

I saw it. It was awful.
