Essential Programs To Have

1. Lavasoft Adaware (or another program that can find and delete spyware)
Where to get: Lavasoft.de OR you can find the professional version for free off suprnova.tk.
What it does: Finds spyware and other crap on your computer that you don't want. Good idea to get even if your computer is fine, and especially good to get when its running slow and you're getting more pop ups than usual.

2. Pop-up stopper
Where to get: panicware.com
what it does: stops pop ups. it stops about 99% sucessfully in my experience. some people have a hard time finding this, just look around on the site for a free version. It's like with Hotmail how when you sign up for an e-mail they have all this crap to get you to try and buy the pay version, where theres a little link at the bottom to get the free version.

Feel free to add your own.

iTunes. Best music program out there.

I'd recommend HiJack This for anyone who knows there way around a PC. Its almost required if you help others out with their PC problems because of all the spyware/adware that casual users download without even realizing it.

I still think the Panicware Pop Up Stopper is shit... it never works for me and has only worked when it once when haywire and stopped me opening up any new IE windows. If you want a decent way of stopping pop ups, use a non-IE browser like Opera or Mozilla Firebird which instantly shoves them into the background. Either that, or there must be another decent pop up stopping program out there.

hey Destroyer, did you go into the preferences and turn the aggressive pop=up control on?

cause it blocks every window my IE tries to open...

I've got a small prog called Popup GoAway on this machine, seems to work pretty well.

Got something else on my machine at home though that seems better :o

Pop-up stopper works great for me. I have yet to see one pop up. Only downside is having to hold Ctrl to open a new IE window manually.

Don't see that in the options... might be because I'm using the free one. :meh:

Best program ever. It's free for a month or so, and when the trial runs out, just uninstall it, and redownload it (it's like 1 MB or something)

It not only stops every popup, it actually cuts out (most) ads from the page itself.
