Best NFL Defender of All Time
This topic was inspired by an article I stumbled upon on ESPN.com
Top 10 Defenders of All Time An argument can be made for many, many players. Personally I'd like to pick L.T. just for pride of one's team. I can't go with L.T. though. In the article this guy says Reggie White was the best ever, I can't agree with that either. I say Sam Huff. Former Giant LB. 30 Career Interceptions Played in 6 NFL Title Games 5 Pro Bowls All-NFL 4 times Top NFL LB in 1959 Also reknown for his infamous competitons with the great backs of his era: Jim Brown - Cleveland Browns Rick Casares - Chicago Bears Alan Ameche - Baltimore Colts Quite a few accomplishments. Post yours, a little bit of their accomplishments that ought to help with discussion. |

1 guy? Really should be by Position because comparing a DL to a DB is difficult.
I'll go Reggie white. As for his top 10. I take off Seau and possible Smith. Seau is overated, most his tackles were after gains, not for a loss, yes, all MLB have to guess and hit holes and sometimes make mistakes (Lewis gets crap for this all the time) but Seau did it more then most. He didn't carry the team in 1995 either. Smith was a great DL, but if you talk to people who played w/ him and get them to give an honest conversation, they'll tell you he was about himself and stats and frequently pulled himself from key situations in games. Who do I add.... tough call again... If you put smith for leading in sacks... why not Greene, Doleman, Randle? Me, I add Derrick Thomas, if he hadn't been in that accident, he might be the all-time sack leader and not the way Smith did it. hmm... since I put in a LB now I'll add a DB. Rod Woodson. Take Deion sanders, w/ less flash, and a much better tackler and thats Rod Woodson. |
Yes, Rod Woodson is a very solid player, always seems to make plays.
I also thought about Deion but I don't believe he is as a complete player as others were. Also, I think Bruce Smith is a piece of crap. He had talent but for the given reasons VEL stated that takes him down a peg or two. I would even throw Strahan on for being able to get the sack but it never seems like he gets any at that golden moment. Eh. I guess it is tough to say best defender all around but thats how the guy in the article did it. :-\ |
yup

Yeah, the only Chief I have ever liked.

It is always a shame when good players go like that. :'(

Yeah Bennett was a bad mother as well.
Where have all the good dominant Bama defenders gone. :'( |
Yeah I know the lack of Bama D presence in the NFL is sad. But heres a list of who are on teams.

I didn't know Shaun Alexander went to Bama? BTW thats not just the defense

Mike Singletary

Yeah Shaun was our bread and butter so to speak. He rushed for like 291 against LSU one game on 20 carries.

Reggie White RIP :(

I think Prime Time, and I am also a big Ray Lewis fan as well. Deion totally shut down half the field of play, that is ridiculous. Ray Lewis, I dont really think he stacks up against a lot of what the old timers did, but he is such a competitior. You are safe no where against Lewis. He is an animal.

Deion is the fucking man though. His tackling stats are pretty ridiculous tho, one year he had more INTs then tackles  |
That's why he is the best ever. If you could actually complete a pass on him, you had earned a touchdown.
|
I wouldn't call that the best. Maybe the best cover corner. Run his way instead. Probably couldn't tackle the tackling dummy.
