APA....

I was thinking, isn't the A.P.A./Acolytes/whatever in an elite group of tag teams being that not only have they held tag championships, but both members have been World Champions in the big 2 a well. I mean the only other real tag team (not just 2 superstars thrown together for an an angle) are the Rock and Sock Connection, and that may be streching the definition of real tag team. I would say Kane and Undertaker as the Brothers of Destruction, but I'm not sure they ever held the tag belts together.

So, think on that.

V 01-01-2005 06:11 PM

Kane and Undertaker held both the WWF and WCW tag titles at the same time.

But then the dudleys took one set and Test/Booker T took the other

I don't remember farooq ever holding a heavyweight title, when was this?

btw, APA 4 lyphe

Ron Simmons was the first ever black NWA/WCW World Heavyweight champion back when Cowboy Bill Watts ran it...I think it was under Bill Watts.

Ron Simmons later back Farooq, in case you didn't know.

Early WCW as Ron Simmons, I believe

BigDaddyCool 01-01-2005 06:18 PM

Also, with Kane and Taker, Kane held the World Championship for all of a day, and WWE doesn't alway acknowledge that on their site, so again, that is pushing it.

Then again, with only 3 real tag teams, that is still a very elite group.

BigDaddyCool 01-01-2005 06:18 PM

Come to think of it, the only other real tag team that has a shot at this is probably Edge and Christian.

Xero 01-01-2005 06:28 PM

I would call Michaels and Triple H a tag team, and you know how that goes. They're in an even more elite group, both are grand slam champions.

Micheals and HHH never held the tag belts together though.

Xero 01-01-2005 06:32 PM

Oh, you're right, nevermind. :$

Xero 01-01-2005 06:38 PM

If you want to count it, there's Michaels and Diesel. Although I'm not sure how long they tagged.

LK 01-01-2005 06:50 PM

Could Austin and HHH be thrown in that group?

SuperSlim 01-01-2005 06:55 PM

I wouldn't really consider Austin and Triple H as one. BUt that's just IMO

Loose Cannon 01-01-2005 06:57 PM

No BDC said no teams that were thrown together for a short time. SO...that eliminates the Mega Powers, Two Dudes with Attitude, Two Man Power Trip, Benoit/Jericho and all the rest.

And BDC is right anyway. There isn't another team. Although if I went back to the AWA and found there champions there, I can get a team.

Loose Cannon 01-01-2005 07:03 PM

Actually, wait a second. Got another one.

Rickey Steamboat was an NWA Champ
Shane Douglas won the NWA Title before it became the ECW Title

Steamboat and Douglas teamed in WCW for a while.

The Mackem 01-01-2005 07:11 PM

I thought Mega Powers tagged for quite a while.

Savio 01-01-2005 07:40 PM

I consider the brothers of destruction. I'd also consider Undertaker and Big show they were not just thrown together and they were a tag team for like 10 months, but you may say that is stretching it.

Besides rock was there any other black guy to hold the WWE title?

Volchok 01-01-2005 08:39 PM

j/w.. what are the Elite Tag Teams? all i know of are APA, LOD, E&C, Hardyz, Dudleys... any others? or any of the ones i put wrong?

Mr. Nerfect 01-01-2005 09:29 PM

That's a pretty good observation. :y:

I wouldn't count The Rock 'n' Sock Connection or The Brothers of Destruction. I'd only count tag teams that were put together to be a tag team, and not singles wrestlers. The Undertaker and The Big Show (to my understanding) where always in the WWE Championship division, while The Rock and Mankind were sort of on and off from memory. Kane and The Undertaker teamed, but it was more to be a force than a tag team.

Bradshaw and Faarooq were teamed because they had nowhere else to go. So yeah, to memory, only the APA were a tag team that was focused on the tag team division for a long-time as a real tag team that won tag titles and have both held World Titles.

BigDaddyCool 01-01-2005 11:21 PM

I would count Rock & Sock as a real team, because, even after they were originally teamed just for something to do, they still team every so often.

BigDaddyCool 01-01-2005 11:23 PM

I don't count Taker and Show, because taker wasn't really doing anything during that, it was a way to keep him on air while injured.

Steamboat and Douglas

Sting Fan 01-02-2005 12:29 AM

Benjamin and Hass could one day fit into this catergory. The same goes for Edge and Xtian but I tinhk they were already mentioned.

jerichoholic169 01-02-2005 12:21 PM

erm jericho and benoit anybody??

they won the tag titles off the two man power trip when HHH tore his quad and both have held the undisputed title.

edit: just read LC's post. so that's wrong then but they were together for quite a bit. could have said benoit and angle as well. what about RVD and kane - they tagged together for a year or so...

Loose Cannon 01-02-2005 12:24 PM

NOT A REAL TEAM. I said that already

Yeah they were NWA Tag Team Champions for a while.

Verne Gagne and Mad Dog Vachon were also a tag team, and they were both AWA Champions.

PerfectOne 01-02-2005 02:09 PM

The Jersey Boys in WCW. Bam Bam Bigelow, DDP, and Kanyon. They held the tag titles, and Bam Bam Bigelow (or Triple B as he was called) and DDP were both champs. DDP was WCW champ, Bam Bam was ECW champ (I know, not one of the big two, but still...).

And, of course, the one EVERYONE is forgetting. Lex Luger and Sting. They actually tagged, on and off, for years since they are real-life best friends. Their most memorable stint was in the Wolfpac, although they never won the title while part of Nash's crew (they did win it before).

On another note, Sting and Luger hold the distinction of being 2 of 4 to hold all WCW titles.

Also, I don't know if you count them, but Nash and DDP formed a tag team called The Insiders to fight Perfect Event (Palumbo and O'Haire) for a few months.

I thought of them, but they weren't around for hardly any time at all

I have heard a few people saying that Luger held the title but I don't remember him ever holding it or ever reading about him winning the WCW title.

if having a tag team partner to hold the tag title with was like having sex, RVD would be the biggest pimp in the world.

True they did tag. Problem though - RVD hasn't held the WCW, WWE or even ECW title.

Nah he held the TV title, which was the secondary title, for 23 months. But he was the most popular wrestler and his reign made the TV title probably the bigger title than the Heavyweight title.
