Who was champ when you first regularly started watching wrestling?

Believe it or not it was Kane, My brother told me about the Hell in the cell between Taker and Mankind so I watched that night and tried to catch every raw since.

Poll coming.

Deceit 01-02-2005 05:56 PM

Yokozuna back in 93. Started watching a few months before the Rumble with Lex Luger and Bret both winning.

Boondock Saint 01-02-2005 06:01 PM

The Rock back in early 99

LK 01-02-2005 06:02 PM

I watched WM 12 and then really started watching regularly so HBK.

Londoner 01-02-2005 06:06 PM

Triple H. No surprise there...

Loose Cannon 01-02-2005 06:06 PM

The Hulkster

DaveWadding 01-02-2005 06:08 PM

it was either Bret or Flair (Fall 92)

Evil Vito 01-02-2005 06:11 PM

Started watching WWF right around Survivor Series 1998, and the title was vacant at that point, but was then picked up by The Rock, so him.

Goulet 01-02-2005 06:11 PM

Hogan

Rain Man 01-02-2005 06:11 PM

Survivor Series 1999 when the Big Show won the title

Loose Cannon 01-02-2005 06:16 PM

you forgot Warrior, Slaughter and Benoit BTW.

Londoner 01-02-2005 06:17 PM

WWE forgot to book Benoit when he was champ so he doesn't count.

Cruiserweight 3:16 01-02-2005 06:47 PM

Hogan

Mike the Metal Ed 01-02-2005 06:48 PM

Mankind won the WWF Title the first time I watched Raw.

The Answer 01-02-2005 06:54 PM

The Hulkster brotha

Zen v.W.o. 01-02-2005 06:58 PM

I've been watching basically since the first mania, and Hogan dominated the title at this time, throughout the 80's so I chose him.

Nervous Ferret 01-02-2005 07:03 PM

Brock but you could say Eddie, since he got it the first ppv once I started watching. Yes I started watching beggining Of February. Gotta start sometime.

Hey you started watching wrestling around the same time i did. :)
Or technically, I first watched wrestling the smackdown highlights before SS. it was a 8 man elimination match:

Shane, Kane, The Rock and Steve Austin vs DX

And Triple H was the champion. What a surprise :wavesad:

V 01-02-2005 08:16 PM

I'd watch ever so often, but when i first regularly started watching...

Stone Cold Steve Austin

May as well mention Booker T was WCW Champion at the time, only to lose it to The Rock 3 weeks after I started watching.

yea, i started watching when "wrestling went downhill" so it's all my fault :)

Eunos 01-02-2005 08:23 PM

I was a fan for ages but i only started watching full time when i got cable back in 2000 when Triple H had just retained his title at Wrestlemania and it was a few weeks before Backlash.

Nowhere Man 01-02-2005 08:29 PM

I only watched WCW when I first started watching wrestling regularly. The first Nitro I ever watched all the way through was the one where Goldberg beat Hogan for the title. I'm fairly certain Austin was WWF champion at the time.

Benoit was never WWE champ and I had to go out to eat so I just put other.

Gouda 01-02-2005 08:37 PM

Who was the champ when Paul Bearer turned on Taker and joined Mankind in the boiler room brawl?

I think it was either HBK, Sid, or Bret....

MVP 01-02-2005 08:40 PM

Yeah, Hogan.

Impact! 01-02-2005 08:48 PM

i started watchin the old 2000,99,98,97,96 tapes from the local video stores so the first one i saw was the rock, but if your talkin live like raw and smackdown, it wouldve been austin

Fox 01-02-2005 08:58 PM

WWE(F): I believe the title was vacant at the time, as it was right before the Survivor Series when the title was up for grabs and The Rock won and joined the Corporation.

WCW: I think Goldberg was champion at the time

Mr. Nerfect 01-02-2005 08:59 PM

When I started watching it was January 2001, although I did watch an episode of SmackDown! in late 2000. In both editions, Kurt Angle was OUR WWE Champion. Oh it's true, it's true. .

Joe Kerr 01-02-2005 09:02 PM

pretty sure it was Hogan since Ive been watching since birth, January 29th 1982

Volchok 01-02-2005 09:43 PM

The Raw right before Rockbottom so Rocky.

Innovator 01-02-2005 09:58 PM

The Hitman

loopydate 01-02-2005 10:17 PM

Ultimate Warrior, beginning of 1991 (just before he lost it to Slaughter).

Mayo 01-02-2005 10:39 PM

Probably Hogan since I was just a kid and don't recall.

That was at summerslam 1996..so HBK. HBK faced vader that same night.

Stickman 01-02-2005 10:55 PM

The most I can remember is around Hogan's day. Hogan, Savage, Slaughter days. I dont' remember too much of it but I do remember it was with them. I started remembering around the Bret Hart time.

RGWhat316 01-03-2005 02:01 AM

Stone Cold Steve Austin
Even though the first piece of wrestling I watched was the Austin/Tyson confrontation. I didnt start watching it regularly until later on in the year during the summer in 1998. By then Austin had the title.

VJW 01-03-2005 04:16 AM

Hogan back in 2002. Christ, wrestling makes time fly . . .
