City of Heroes and World of Warcraft
This topic i mind you isnt a VS. topic thing, i just wanna explain my situation
none to some of you may be informed on that pesky Error 132 on WoW, a few thousand got it and quit due to it, and alas i was one of the unfortunates, every 5 minutes i got a frozen WoW and to get back on for another five minutes i found myself having to restart the computer to play for just another 5 minutes. I went on like this for a good 2 weeks until i gave up, since everyone i knew was at a staggering like level 35+ and i was stuck back in the teens due to the error i decided to leave and go to my second MMO option, which was City of Heroes. i play on the Freedom server with my highest character being a level 8, i started about a week or two ago and i was wondering if anyone on here played on the same server, or just played CoH at all, not asking for power leveling, i'd just like to play on the game with another person because i find it boring after awhile playing alone.. so thats pretty much the question, does anyone wanna play CoH sometimes with poor ol' SukkaChump? :| Also i'd like to point out that i do think all and all that WoW is a far better game but CoH delivers a fine substitute for now until they fix the problem |
If you check the forums, I thought they posted a workaround for this error? I might be wrong though..
|
yeah.. i checked everywhere i could go, i spent most of one week trying EVERYthing they posted about it, i defragged the computer a good 15 times that week, along with disk checks.. so i dunno.. i reeeally liked WoW
|
I just installed a second copy of WoW, so whenever I get a #132 (not very often anymore), I just look at the error log, find the mpq file that caused it, then replace that with the mpq from the second WoW installation. Presto, everything is fine. WoW is so lovely.
|
yeah, i did the Mpq replace trick a few times, it worked once for a good hour or so, then it gave me some sort of source error and i couldnt even get to the main menu

Hey if you could tell me everything you have done, I am pretty sure I can help you out. Along with maybe a quick post of your comp specs and if you have a error still saved into a folder just copy and paste the first part that is in all the stars.
Many of people got this error and EVERYONE cried that it was blizzards problem, but bet your bottom dollar that if you took it to a computer place they can fix something that is busted and it will work. I was plagued with this all through beta1 and beta2 and the Open Beta. I continued to play because I had gotten into the beta's and wasnt going to let anything stop me. I noticed that I had difficulty playing games on my comp since I had gotten it, but I just thought it was bad luck on my part. The games I was playing before HL2 and WoW were stupid anyways so I never cared much. Then when I jumped into WoW I thought that maybe my instability was a thing of the past, but it never went away until I starting playing with things on my PC. Their are a few ways to get rid of this error, and all of the ways blizzard tech's will give you is rubbish. First of all, reinstalling the game wont do anything, UNLESS you encountered an error while you were installing the game to begin with. All it does is take up a buntch of time having to wait for install and patches. However the MPQ has solved it for a few people, always a rare occurence though. A system 132 error is caused when a piece of hardware/software is trying to communicate with your pc and eventually does not get a signal. This is why you get to play for a while then it eventually shuts down. In this case, it is more then likely a hardware complication seeings how their werent that many people with the 132 error, other errors excluded of course. I couldnt find out the error until I talked to a guy that owns a computer shop in my town. I talked to him for maybe 10 minutes and he knew what it was after I told him what was going on. It helped however that me and him had almost the exact same computer (parts wise) and he also played WoW, but never recieved errors. It turned out that my ram frequency was turned up way to high for what my motherboard could handle. I took it to him and in 5 minutes he had it fixed and since then I have never crashed once with any game. It only cost me 15 bucks for the bench fee, and because he did it really quick he didnt charge me by the hour. It saves a lot of hassle, and was well worth it. |
Intel Celeron CPU 2.4 GHZ 631MB Ramand a Nvidia Geforce FX 5200
and all i can tell you is that mainly i got Terrain, sound and patch.MPQ Errors, i uninstalled the game and got rid of every file because i pretty much thought it was a lost cause, i didnt blame blizzard because i assumed it had to do with how my computer was reading the files the thing is i've never had any kind of problem with playing games, except maybe city of her heroes i get a similar issue, except its terrain.pigg files and whatnot |
I've played both City of Heroes and World of Warcraft and my advise would be to do everything in your power to get WoW to work. CoH is fun for like a week and then you realize that it lacks any real item system, quests, rewards, pvp, a solid 'guild' system, etc. You have no real incentive to play and it just becomes a bland grind with very little else to keep you playing.
WoW is pretty amazing. Blizzard in general is amazing and they're going to turn this game into the greatest MMO experience you can imagine, if it isn't already as is. |

Also, I still get quite a few #132's, how would I go about finding out if I have that problem with my ram too? I don't trust myself at all changing it, but I would like to find out if that's the problem, before calling the computer shop and bugging them again (they're probably scik of me by now)

Ok well your best bet is to run a memtest for the ram, which is what the computer place will do also. To find the site just type memtest86 in any search on a site and it will pull up the site. Download the program and read any readme's. It isnt to complicated to learn how to get it running. If you do have troubles however, the first place to call would be your local comp technicians. All it requires is a floppy and about a days time.
What the program does is stress your ram to see if it is maybe a jumper, slot on the board, or possibly ram. If you arent a computer wiz, the best thing to do it just bring it to them (monday would be the best day, so they can work on it throughout the week). Tell them what is happening and ask if they can run a memtest on it for you to see if you have any problems. Most places will only charge you for the time THEY are working on it, and not charge for the time they are running the test on it, but always ask to make sure. I realize a few days without WoW is hard, but after I stopped putting it off and got it fixed, I am a much happier person. |

WoW stress's a machine a lot more then most people think. It stresses mine as much if not more the HL2 does sometimes. Definetly look into it. As for the errors, whenever mine used to crash, it crashed with a sound error, even though my ram was the problem. I also had gotten a terrian error at least 3 times that I can recall, and since I got it fixed I never have had one. Try running your game without sound, and see how much of a difference it might make. Easier way is to go into the system hardware and disable your sound card. Right click my computer>properties>hardware>device manager>sound, video, game controllers>then find your sound card>right click and disable. If you did it right, it wont make any noise after you disable it. The game will run for a while longer, but it will still close. Play it for a while and if it doesnt ever close, you might have a sound card compatibility issue, and some people with sound blasters did infact have an issue with the updated drivers and WoW. CoH is fun for a while, but it cant scratch the surface of WoW. |
yeah, i always thought having 631 was a little odd too, i just never really payed attention to it, but i'll check the memtest thing and i'll get back the results to here
|
yeeah, i just checked the whole memtest 86 deal and i apparently need a floppy disk, all i have is a disk set that has 1.44MB able to be stored onto it, i'm not the best computer guy around, so yeah..
when i can i'm going to call the computer place right down the road, hes like a year or two older then me, so i'm sure he's played WoW as well, its safe to say everyone is.. but right now i got like almost a foot of snow on the ground so i cant do much right now |
I just hooked up CoH tonite and my childhood creation (Dazman) is Level 2 and running around. If you wanna meet we can organize something, but you're most likely stronger than me. CoH ain't bad, it's great for creative cooks like me. WoW seems awesome though, but I was really looking forward to True Phantasy Online for XBox.
|
yeah i could hook up with you on there, just contact me at KazzienDarkmoon on AIM and we'll talk
