I think he'll be in more of a Kane-type of role, where he's always there, and we're supposed to care, but he's become nothing special. I think Abyss will do something unique for a debut, he'll be pushed continuously, but he'll end up not being that serious contender for the title, until he has an "intense" mid-card feud, that ends up ruining any faith we had in the character's future, until we see them come back in a blaze, only to be somehow extinguished again.
If I had a choice, I'd have Abyss debut on SmackDown! as Chris Parks, answering the challenge of Kurt Angle's Invitational, only to defeat Angle, when everything Angle tries just results in him being tossed/pushed/thrown away.
Parks then gets then takes out the Abyss mask, and puts it on before throwing a monstrous fit in the middle of the ring. He takes the medal (designed to look like Kurt's real medal), and does something to mutilate it, like put it in a wood chipper, or put in a car before pushing it into the ocean, or blowing it up or something.
The angle's been done, but it would still spark interest, IMO, especially if Abyss destroyed the "real" medal. Basically I'd then have Chris Parks and Abyss seperate characters, and have Abyss almost be Chris Parks' Hulk, except Parks himself is good enough to hang with the best.
So basically you have Chris Parks, who can retreat into his mask to temporarily throw away his humanity, for a match, during a match, or outside the match. It would probably end up being really stupid, but I've always wanted to see a "two-in-one" wrestler, and I'm not talking Mick Foley style, where he'd be three in one night. I mean one where they are the same person, but different personalities (I guess the recent Mick Foley/Cactus Jack is a bit like it, but it would be interesting to see a wrestler incorporate the "change" into their matches).
Something like that has probably already been done, though.
