STEELERS VS. JETS

Gonna be a dog fight. Good luck to the Jets.
Steelers win by 10 or more.

Keys to a victory.........
Stuff the run and let Chad try and beat us. ;)
Contain Jordan, if Hermie uses him.

Run the ball down the Jets throats.
Jets to play 8 men in the box....... Ben will torch the secondary playing man to man.

Triple A 01-13-2005 12:50 AM

JETS WILL DO IT!

As I stated before, should be a good game. But sorry trips, NY is coming off a huge win against, what I believed all season, a mediocre Charger team. This Saturday, the Jets will be facing a ferocious team with more left unproven this year. Ain't no way in hell, we stop playing the way we have all year against the Jets.

Beat em before and gonna beat em harder this time........

Triple A 01-13-2005 01:10 AM

The Jets dominated the first half and basically through the third quarter too in the first game. They would have won if it wasn't for retarded penalties that killed their momentum. Then they just fucked up in the 4th quarter.

Splaya 01-13-2005 01:15 AM

Rothlisberger is unproven in the playoffs whereas the Jets have a playoff game under their belt.

Final score: Jets 34 Steelers 27

Triple A 01-13-2005 01:15 AM

BTW, I merged this thread with other shit and whatnot, which is why it is out of place at the top.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 01-13-2005 01:21 AM

Steelers can stuff the run, and still force Pennington to throw the deep ball. Which he can't do. I don't know, I don't think the Jets have much of a chance. Steelers will put a ton of guys in the box, but they can still take away the short yardage passes even with a ton of guys near the line of scrimmage. I don't know, I hope I am wrong but I really don't think its gonna be close.

Maybe Vilma can run back an INT or something, Jets are going to need something huge like that to win tho IMO

Ben proved that he can win and mature quicker than anyone else. Sure it's a playoff game and I believe he will be ready. He has proven everyone wrong so far this year. Why not prove them dead wrong again.

The Jets do have a playoff game under their belt but it was against a mediocre Charger team. The Chargers are hardly the Steelers.

Jets 34?????????? Dude, what are you smokin?????? Steelers haven't given up 34 points since they coughed up 41 against the Chiefs....... in 2003!!! The Jets were lucky enough to manage 2 FG's the first meeting. 34.......... where's your logic :nono:

BCWWF 01-13-2005 01:46 AM

I don't see how the Steelers could lose this one, if they do I think Cower is fucked

Triple A 01-13-2005 01:55 AM

Why would Cowher be fucked after leading the team to 15-1 after being 6-10 last year with BASICALLY the same team (mostly on defense at least)?

bigpoppapump 01-13-2005 02:08 AM

Well, people have been calling for Cowhers' head for a couple years now. If he doesn't win the big one this year, I still believe he will be around since he has Dan Rooney wrapped around his finger. I was expecting him to be coaching the Browns if he got canned. Ya never know.

I take it you haven't been watching football for very long, because very good Steelers teams under Cowher have always failed to win the big one. Since 1992, he has taken his team to the playoffs 10 times, to the AFC Championship four times, to the Super Bowl once, and never won. He is obviously a good coach based on his overall records, but his playoff record is 7-9 over 13 years now and in this day and age people get upset when the coach doesn't win it all.

More up to date, before this season people were calling for him to be fired. If he can't at least get to the Super Bowl with this team that is widely regarded the best team in the NFL, it will be another sign that he can not win the big one, and the people will make sure he leaves.

RP 01-13-2005 03:09 AM

Ok First.. The chargers arent mediocre. Thats a great fucking team. I saw them i person. I was amazed at how good they are. Ofcourse they arent the Steelers. Jets may hang around for a couple quarters but i think the Steelers will pull away eventually. Jets defense may get exposed unless they force a couple of turnovers because that Pitt run game will stomp a mudhole in there run defense.

BCWWF 01-13-2005 03:16 AM

Big Ben is given too much credit for their success, so when people make the argument that he is going to have his rookie choke, it really is not as important as it is made out to be. If he has a really bad game and throws three interceptions, the rest of the team is good enough to still win the game. They have an outstanding defense, a great running game, and wide recievers that can make big plays even if a quarterback isn't at the top of his game. In case you couldn't tell, I predict the Steelers to win.

MoRcHeEbA 01-13-2005 03:28 AM

Sean Ellis says the Jets are gonna win the super bowl, so I don't know how I can go against him :(

Triple A 01-13-2005 06:22 AM

Yes, I know people were calling for him to get fired at the end of last season, but I am saying regardless of whether or not they win the Superbowl this year, after the great season they have had, I very much doubt they would fire him.

road doggy dogg 01-13-2005 07:11 AM

I don't really care either way for either team (kinda like the Steelers but won't go out of my way to cheer for them in any given game), but this is gonna be one f'n good game. Can't wait for this weekend.

Joe Kerr 01-13-2005 06:38 PM

Unless Big ben has a bad game Steelers are going to dominate. Pennington freezes up when he is Blitzed and Steelers are the #1 Blitzing team. Bettis is running stronger than ever. Im giving this one to the Steelers easily.

Now Next week Steelers vs. Colts (my prediction) im going with the Colts because Manning loves being blitzed and plays his best.

Triple A 01-13-2005 09:58 PM

How are the Steelers going to dominate? Did you even see the game they played earlier this year when the Jets dominated the first 3 quarters? Obviously not.

W/o the penalties the jets probably woulda won the regular season game.

I honestly didnt see that game.

as for Bettis his last two starts is what I was basing my comment on.

What are the schedules for the game? I know Colts Pats are a 4:30 game ...not sure if its a sat or sun game...and no clue on the other three

ColdwaVer 01-13-2005 11:19 PM

I'm not even going to bother quoting all of the people suggesting why Cowher is or isn't in a do-or-die situation with this season. The fact is that historically, the Steelers have always been a team to stick with a good coach through thick and thin. You could have the best coach in the universe and still lose, that's obvious. But he does have the Rooney blessing, which has always been an essential factor in a Steeler team's success.
As for the game itself, all the Steelers really have to do is bring the same solid game they have all season and let NY run themselves into the ground. Pittsburgh has the confidence of a winning team, but the humility of not having forgotten what being a losing team feels like, and that makes for a powerful bit of armor. Assuming that Roethlistberger is up to spec, I don't think the Steelers will have too much difficulty with this game.

You may wanna choose your words wisely next time. Chew on those facts.

As long as they dont get crazy throwin the ball, give Duce the ball to wear down the Jets Def. Then 2nd half bring in the Bus and New York will be getting sent home with broken hearts. Just Karma... Seems as if the last time the Steelers won an AFC title game.. was against the Colts... Hm... this sounds aweful familar to what I think is gonna happen!

One for the Thumb this year Baby

LOL "chew on those facts". All you did was post the game recap. You posted no facts or stats you retard.

I don't have any of the exact stats, but after the first half and I think through the 3rd quarter too, the Jets had TWICE the offensive yardage of the Steelers. They COMPLETELY shut the Steelers down. Roethlisberger had a QB rating of BELOW 6 after 3 quarters. BELOW SIX. And he finished with a rating of like 30 or something. The only reason the Jets did not score at all is because of stupid calls from the referees that pushed their drives back, out of field goal range.

So yes, the Jets DOMINATED the Steelers up until the fourth quarter, when the Steelers shit all over the Jets.

I actually think the Jets have a shot to win this one. I think Rothy is gonna struggle in one of these playoff games ( i don't wana say choke cuz it would be far from choking). If the Jets defense comes up again, and they get a few big plays here and there I think they'll have a trip to New England.

I am giving this one to the Steelers pretty easilly aswell. My reasoning is that the only argument people really have is that Ben Roethlesburger is bound to choke and slip up. If thats the case, I really don't think it would matter that much. He isn't Payton Manning, his gameplay doesn't have to determine how good the team is as a whole. Think the Ravens Superbowl champ team and the Buccaneers championship teams, the Steelers are pretty much those two teams but with a much better offense. If those teams could do it with Trent Dilfer and Brad Johnson, I think a team with the top defense and Bettis-Ward-Burress etc etc shouldn't struggle either way.

The Bill Cowher thing, I personally don't think he should be fired. I am more in favor of keeping a coach long enough to establish a dynasty, but I was just saying how with his history it wouldn't surprise me if there were complaints.

Also, I think the AFC Championship is going to be the best game of the year. I have a feeling Indy will finally win, but a Patriots and Steelers AFC Title game would be the shit. There is so much hype that they could build that game around. Just two tough ass teams going at it. Wow.

1st Half Stats
Total Yards
PIT 100
NYJ 142

Hardly TWICE the offensive yards.

3rd Quarter Stats
Total Yards
PIT 98
NYJ 70

Kinda growing a little bit farther from TWICE the yardage huh? :D

Here are the penalties.........
PIT 2/15
NYJ 11/79

Holy shit, NYJ had alot calls against them............ oh but wait a minute, I didn't post what penalties were actually called.............. here goes....

PIT
1 - Holding; 1 - 12 Men On The Field

NYJ
1 - Tripping; 1 - Holding; 1 - Illegal Contact; 3 - Pass Interference;
2 - Delay of Game; 3 - False Starts;

Now, out of the 11 calls against the Jets, 5, count em, 5, were false starts and delay of games. Can you say, undisciplined?

And just to amuse you some more, all those penalties were called in the first half. At halftime the score was PIT 3, NYJ 0. Dont try and feed me or anyone else bullshit about the referees ripping you off.

Whats IS your definition of dominating??? :shifty: :D

Nervous Ferret 01-14-2005 09:24 PM

jets are not undisipined. Since herm has become coach they are the least penalized team in the NFL. Just 1 dumb game by them.
