I've had it for about a week, but finally watched it last night. I thought that as a whole it was really good, and it seemed like it was an independent film by the way it was made, not one that the WWE made to make themselves look better. The one thing that I didn't really like was that they would put complete focus on either WCW or WWF for a period, and there was one period when both were extremely hot. When Goldberg and Kevin Nash were going to go for the title at Starcade and the Rock and Mankind were doing those crazy matches while Stone Cold fought for his title shot, both were very even in my book, but they focused on the WWF. I think WCW had control until Goldberg lost the world title, then the WWF took over with the Austin vs. McMahon/The Rock fued. I wish they had shown more WCW at that point.
Doesn't Bischoff work for the WWE now? I liked his input a lot in the beginning, but later on they just made him sound like a complete ass. When did Raw is War go live? Because they had WCW announce that Mankind was winning the title on Nitro, and I thought that they would for sure have been live by then.
I also wish they could have put a few more big matches on there as extras. Diamondcutter, a few of the matches you listed were on PPV, which kind of takes the purpose away from it. Some matches that I am thinking of are Goldberg vs. The Giant in overtime for the Giants last WCW match. Nobody knew it at the time, the crowd was going wild, and Goldberg jackhammered the Giant. That was a big one I thought.
It was a bit one sided. In the beginning they gave WCW their fair due, but towards the end they made it seem like WCW was stupid, Eric Bischoff was a stupid asshole, and the WWF was a group of saints just trying to survive. They didn't really focus on some of the big differences in the shows. For starters, how Raw was always kind of the hardcore more underground show while Nitro was the more family oriented show with all the entertainment (Nitro Girls etc). They also said that WCW didn't let any new talent rise, but there were quite a few guys, albiet not world champions, but popular guys. Ones like Rey Mysterio, Konnan, even though he was old DDP was pretty much a new talent. Who knows though, they did have a lot of points in the things they dissed WCW for.
The one major complaint that I had was how they so adamantly have to use WWE when talking about it. I mean hearing them refer to it as the WWE is annoying but I can understand it, but why did they have to blur out tee shirts in the background and stuff? Does it really matter, when it was filmed thats what they were called. Ugh. The WWF was so much better then WWE.
This is a great video though, it really reminds you of how good wrestling was during this era. When it showed the clip of Tony Schvonni announcing Mankind was going to win the title, it just reminded me of how exciting that used to be, sitting and watching one show to see what would happen while knowing something was going on a few channels away. It was like nothing else, sports aren't the same way at all. It was definately an era to remember.
