Clemens Back on the Astro's

I just read that Roger Clemens has signed a one year contract with the Astros for 18 million. They say its the highest payment for a pitcher.

To bad the Astros got rid of Beltran...with out him they wont make it this year.

BCWWF 01-21-2005 05:30 PM

I wouldn't have paid Clemens that much, IMO last year was just a fluke. Well not a fluke, but I think that last year was pitched a lot on emotion and that won't be here like it was last year. Still a good pitcher, but not an 18 million dollar pitcher at all.

he hassn't said if he'll play yet, they just settled on the contract, he could still retire they said.

DegenerationY 01-21-2005 06:43 PM

He had a press conference this morning saying that he's playing again for another year. He's definitely back.

18 Million though, that's pitiful. Nobody is worth that much for one year...

Shaggy 01-22-2005 07:53 AM

I dont think its worth it...sure the Astors won games with him last year...but that was with some good hitting. With there luck...and since I live in Houston and know how there luck is....Clemens will get injured and rake up 18 mill just sitting on the bench

VonErich Lives 01-22-2005 12:12 PM

the Astros paid him 5mil last year, so they're figuring it as a 2yr 23mil dollar deal, which is 11.5mil a year which isnt bad, even if this year he's not on his game (you can't predict injuries).

The Astros wont have the hitting, but they should have a healthy Pettite which could give them one of the best rotations in the league.

It's all about butts in the seats, great players sell tickets, and win games, which also sells tickets and helps teams get in the playoffs which sells more tickets, and along with tickets comes jerseys and beer and food etc... all which make the owners money and justify the 18mil a year.

Like Jim Carrey getting 20mil for a movie.

Supreme Olajuwon 01-23-2005 02:35 AM

but to let Miller, Beltran, and Kent go

ridiculous

BCWWF 01-23-2005 03:26 AM

Where did Wade Miller end up again? Was it the BoSox?

Jesus Shuttlesworth 01-23-2005 03:39 AM

Yes sir

VEL makes a good point though, when you consider it a 2 year deal, it makes more sense.
