For All the Marbles: New England Patriots vs Philadelphia Eagles - Who will win?

So who's winning the 2005 Superbowl in Jacksonville?

My pick is the Eagles because of TO's return

Jesus Shuttlesworth 01-23-2005 10:38 PM

PATS

MoRcHeEbA 01-23-2005 10:39 PM

gonna have to take the Pats

AareDub 01-23-2005 10:42 PM

IF T.O. returns it will be premature and he will get injured even worse. Having said that, I think they'll let him play.

Oh yea, Pats will win unfortunately.

MVP 01-23-2005 10:45 PM

If the Pats stop as many passes as they did today they'll waste the Eagles.

The Miz 01-23-2005 10:45 PM

Don't really see why anyone outside of Philly would pick the Eagles

Buzzkill 01-23-2005 11:08 PM

Pats....unfortunately

Evil Vito 01-23-2005 11:18 PM

Pats

I generally like seeing different teams win the super bowl if it doesn't involve the Giants, but not if that different team has to be the fucking Eagles.

OssMan 01-23-2005 11:28 PM

The patriots, i hate them both, not even gonna watch it

#1-norm-fan 01-23-2005 11:39 PM

I am ashamed as an NFL fan that the biggest/most watched event in television, the Super Bowl, will showcase New England and Philly. It's like two heels facing off in the main event at WrestleMania.

That being said, New England is unbeatable right now.

McLegend 01-23-2005 11:39 PM

I'm form Philly but I don't see them beating the PATS :'(. O well at least they got there.

It'd be awesome if the New York Giants jumped the Eagles in the back and took their spot.

el fregadero 01-23-2005 11:52 PM

I pick New England, but I think I will root for Philly because if I squint I could mistake them for the Jaguars.

The Answer 01-23-2005 11:55 PM

Philly!!!!.And im not from Philidelphia

BCWWF 01-24-2005 12:05 AM

I chose Pats, but I don't think its as one sided as people are making it out to be

el fregadero 01-24-2005 12:07 AM

I hope it's not.

Heyman 01-24-2005 12:16 AM

I'm going with the Eagles............even if they are the inferior team (and make no mistake about, they are).

I pick the Eagles in this case, because they will have more HUNGER.

1) Eagles haven't won the SB in recent history. The Patriots have.

2) The return of Terell Owens will be EXTREMELY motivating for the Eagles.

Emotion and motivation are powerful things in sports. In my humble opinion, the Eagles will have more of this than the Pats. :y:

RP 01-24-2005 12:47 AM

Patriots. There the best team i've seen. And i say this with the deepest strand of hatred buried in my heart for this team.

I do however think it will be a exciting game. Just like last years game. Hopefully this time it wont get overshadowed by a black tit.

DaveWadding 01-24-2005 01:06 AM

Who cares?

Jesus Shuttlesworth 01-24-2005 01:43 AM

LOL Wow everybody hates the Patriots eh? Why? They are fucking nasty

John la Rock 01-24-2005 01:53 AM

it's because they know how to win

el fregadero 01-24-2005 02:05 AM

I don't really want to see anybody win it 3 out of 4 years. Don't have anything against the actual team.

Same way everyone hated the Bulls or in the 80's lakers/celtics.
Everyone hated the 90's Yanks,
The Red Wings, etc...

When a team is real good and can be considered a "dynasty" everyone is "sick of seeing them win", which translate to "sick of seeing a team that isn't theres".

I pick the Pats (big shock, but I think if you check the original playoff thread I had the Steelers over the Pats).

TO will be a factor if he's back, but the Pats have shut down some of the top WR's in the league. Harrison, Burres & Ward, so even TO at 100% I don't see as a huge issue.

What the Pats do, is they find someonething or someone you go to a lot and they take that away, they simpley take away your top option (or one of). In the case of the Steelers, they run 2 out of 3 first downs. If you watched on 1st down, the Pats have 7 in the box.

I think with the Eagles they're going to key on Westbrook, take away the run and him as a Rec out of the backfield. Then, if you have a TO who probably isn't 100%, Freddie "stonehands" mitcher and Todd "Aligator Arms" Pinkston...

I'll ask this to you two, but it applies to more people.

Do you like football? I mean, are you a true football fan?

I am, I watch the Superbowl, doesn't matter who is in it, yeah I prefer the Pats to be in it, or a good story like Reggie White/Brett Favre's first ring or John Elway getting a ring, The "Greatest show on Turf" w/ a coach who came out of retirement, Gruden v. his old team. All good stories.

I just don't see how anyone can call themselves a "football fan" and not watch the superbowl, it's the biggest game of the year, one of the biggest sporting events in the world (before you soccer goons flip out, I said "one of" and if you doubt it, check the world wide TV ratings).

My least fav team of all time is the Dolphins, Recently it's been the Steelers, but either of those teams could be in the Superbowl and I'd still watch.

I dunno, maybe you two just aren't real football fans, just home-town fans.

Hardkore Kidd J 01-24-2005 11:54 AM

I am the most uncasual football fan ever. And I still watch the superbowl. As for teams, like I said I have not been too much of a follower in Football, but from what I've seen watched with my friends The Patriots are my favorite team. Which is ironic cause I'm from New Jersey. The Pats are going to go all the way.

If I was from Jersey I couldn't root for the Jets or Giants, simply because they play in NJ but call themselves NY. That would drive me nuts.

Hence "New Endland Patriots" good markting move, gets MA, RI, CT, NH, VT.

Although most people in CT are Giants fans and a lot of people around here are also Giants fans, because before the Pats, the Giants were the closests team.

Y2Ant 01-24-2005 01:36 PM

I'll watch it, because either way, it will be hilarious to see TO and the Eagles get shut down, or hilarious to see the Patriots D get molested.

The Outlaw 01-24-2005 01:48 PM

Yeah I'll definately watch it. It's just more exciting when either one of my teams or a team has a player I really like is in it. Eagles have a Bama boy but hes a lineman so I dunno.

Used to be a big TO fan but that was in the day.

Where the fuck did this come from? I hate both teams, but I'll watch the damn game anyways. I just don't give a shit who wins. For me, this Superbowl is like "Would you prefer a bullet to the head or a bullet to the heart?"

Heyman 01-24-2005 07:22 PM

Dave Wadding only like the SuperBowl, because it gives him an excuse to 'pig out' and eat a shitload (I'm assuming that he'll be at a party of sorts).

OssMan 01-24-2005 07:34 PM

I dunno, I only really started following football this year, but i hate both teams so much. like.. I hate the redskins the most, and even if they are supposed to be in a really good game I might not watch them, because I am tired of seeing them and whatnot.

I dunno. the superbowl is different. I might watch it but who knows.

WHO KNOWS

Buzzkill 01-24-2005 08:26 PM

I've always hated the Pats, I dont really know why. I think it started when I saw Drew Bledsoe's ugly face.

Crimson 01-24-2005 10:12 PM

I hate both teams so I won't root for anyone, i'll just hope one of them gets emberrased. Patriots ARE nasty, like it or not they'll be around the top for a while.

Mister Sinister 01-25-2005 02:34 AM

I hate New England with a passion, mostly because I'm a fins fan...and while I think Philly is a good team, I just have that gut feeling, New England will repeat...

WTF. Bledsoe is dreamy!

BCWWF 01-25-2005 02:57 AM

I like both teams, but I am kind of going for the Pats because they have faught through so many injuries and their defense is just stacked with sweet players. It would be cool if they won again, I was talking to Yash earlier and we both agreed that they would be considered a dynasty with the win. One reaosn I say that is because I am confident that they would come close if not repeat next season. It would be cool to be able to say "I saw the Patriot dynasty" in 20 years, like the people who got to see the undefeated Dolphins and the Steel Curtain and stuff. So I guess go Pats!

Same reason I hate the Fins. I'm a life long pats fan and grew up in the 80's with you guys breaking out back every year (except 85). That and Dan Marino was a great QB, but it was tough to root for a guy who was always yelling at his team mates and never seemed to take any blame himself.

Did you see after the Colts/Pats game, Boomer Essiason on the postgame said something about Peyton becoming the next Dan Marino, and the look on Marinos face was priceless...

Yashamaga 01-25-2005 10:17 AM

The thing is though that they haven't played eachother this year and Bellichick IS beatable when you face him for the 1st time. (I can't say the same when you have a rematch with him)
