Games Old School
I have trouble finding game pics from the 80's, so I figure I just post pics of semi-recent games. It's interesting, as some of these games are ugly compared to today's stuff. Take WWF Attitude ('98) for instance.
http://image.com.com/gamespot/images..._screen036.jpg Once upon a time this was hot shit to some of you. Just look at those visuals. Hell, look at everything; their wasn't even a ramp!! |
I'm not gonna post the ingame pics. They look horrible now. I don't even recall them looking so bad.
http://image.com.com/gamespot/images..._screen001.jpg Ah, what the heck: http://image.com.com/gamespot/images..._screen004.jpg http://image.com.com/gamespot/images..._screen005.jpg |
Perfect Dark, which had a multiplayer mode that could surpass Halo 2 if updated for the present. This game was solid platinum.
http://image.com.com/gamespot/images..._screen008.jpg http://image.com.com/gamespot/images..._screen005.jpg A ^shot^ of the 2 Player co-op, that in my oppinion; was better done than Halo 2's. http://image.com.com/gamespot/images..._screen040.jpg Let it be known, kids; duel wielding ain't nuthun new. You think Halo's pressence on XBox has something to do with Perfect Dark Zero's hold? |
Top Gear Rally ('97) had one thing going for it, custom decals. You could use a paint program to drees your cars in ways still unseen in the likes of NFS:Underground.
http://image.com.com/gamespot/images..._screen001.jpg There was also a beautiful track that played during the idle demo screen. And the frame rate was great. |
http://image.com.com/gamespot/images..._screen001.jpg
Tell the truth, some of you thought this was the greatest thing since analog control. http://image.com.com/gamespot/images..._screen004.jpg |
How should I put this..? Diddy Kong Racing was superior to Mario Kart 64 in everyway.
http://image.com.com/gamespot/images..._screen005.jpg http://image.com.com/gamespot/images..._screen002.jpg http://image.com.com/gamespot/images..._screen004.jpg |
But for those who think otherwise anyway...
http://image.com.com/gamespot/images..._screen003.jpg http://image.com.com/gamespot/images..._screen001.jpg I remember playing the above track and memorizing every turn like a mad man. |
even though I'm only 16 I am a retro game junkie O_O
I'll probably drown you in speccy, nes and snes games later tonight :shifty: |
Look, the Master of Unlocking.
http://image.com.com/gamespot/images..._screen005.jpg http://image.com.com/gamespot/images..._screen004.jpg Moving ahead in time... http://image.com.com/gamespot/images..._screen011.jpg http://image.com.com/gamespot/images..._screen002.jpg I remember every moment vividly. 3 and down need not apply, the first 2 were classics; not to be outdown until part four came along. http://image.com.com/gamespot/images..._screen007.jpg http://image.com.com/gamespot/images..._screen006.jpg Leon's always shooting something. |
Diddy Kong Racing was so f'n awesome, way better than Mario Kart

MK: Mythologies... Oh God...
http://psxmedia.ign.com/media/reviews/image/mkm9.13.jpg http://psxmedia.ign.com/media/reviews/image/mkm.3.jpg I played this game..? |
Soul Blade (or Soul Edge) was a great fighter that spawned a great series.
http://image.com.com/gamespot/images..._screen002.jpg http://image.com.com/gamespot/images..._screen004.jpg |
King of Fighters '95
http://image.com.com/gamespot/images..._screen001.jpg http://image.com.com/gamespot/images..._screen003.jpg Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting fused?!? OH MY GOD!!! |
When Zelda was announced for the "Ultra 64", it wasn't the work of art we all know it became.
http://n64media.ign.com/media/images...ws/zelda10.jpg http://n64media.ign.com/media/images...ews/zelda1.jpg http://n64media.ign.com/media/images...ews/zelda5.jpg They were still revolutionary compared to anything on SNES, but thank God they hekd it back long enough to polish it. Delays aren't always bad. |
I love the KOF series, but lately Guilty Gear is my favorite fighting series. It's just so wacky.
BTW, I am loving this thread. Keep it up. |
Smooth animation, vibrant colors, great control, NO FOG; Banjo Kazooie was ahead of it's time. Don't believe me? Check out these pics. Yep, still lookin sharp.
http://n64media.ign.com/media/previe...ge/banjo43.jpg http://n64media.ign.com/media/previe...ge/banjo41.jpg http://n64media.ign.com/media/previe...ge/banjo39.jpg Taking the foundation of Mario 64 and pumping it full of energon, Rareware smoked any other platformer that year. |
Ladies and gentlemen, the first quality WWF/E game, WM2000.
http://n64media.ign.com/media/previe...ge/wwfwm10.JPG http://n64media.ign.com/media/previe...ge/wwfwm16.JPG ^ From getting cheered to getting beat up by Chyna. http://n64media.ign.com/media/previe...ge/wwfwm25.JPG http://n64media.ign.com/media/previe...ge/wwfwm46.JPG http://n64media.ign.com/media/previe...mania20005.jpg ^ The first pic on the game, mere weeks after WWF Attitude was released!! |
No one could tell you why Super Smash Bros. was so fun, you had to play it for yourself...
http://n64media.ign.com/media/previe...ge/ssmash1.jpg http://n64media.ign.com/media/previe...ge/ssmash2.jpg http://n64media.ign.com/media/previe...ge/ssmash6.jpg ^ I won't even caption that one, let your imaginations run wild. |
Before Konami took it to PS2, a 3D Castlevania came out for the N64. It didn't get a good rep, but I liked it. I still think it had some great cinematics.
http://n64media.ign.com/media/previews/image/cvl4.jpg http://n64media.ign.com/media/previews/image/cvl3.jpg It had a day/night cycle that you hardly noticed, because the environment barely went a shade darker. The indoor settings looked much better than the outdoor. http://n64media.ign.com/media/previews/image/cvl20.jpg Not by much, though. This game had a sequel, but you can look at these scenes and imagine a different main character for visuals. |
Banjo-Kazooie was fucking awesome too, better than mario 64
|
Mace: The Dark Age; Oh my God this fighting game was SOOOO underrated. Free roaming movement, interactive backrounds, stage fatalities, weapon combat, sweet animation, DAMN! This game had ALOT of things 3D fighting games swear they invented these days.
http://n64media.ign.com/media/images/previews/mace3.jpg http://n64media.ign.com/media/images...ews/mace16.jpg ^ Doesn't that select screen look familiar..? http://xboxmedia.ign.com/xbox/image/...l2spawn_01.jpg ^ http://n64media.ign.com/media/images/previews/mace4.jpg This game came from Midway, future parents of today's Mortal Kombat games. |
This game ruled!:D
http://www.acorn-gaming.org.uk/Emulation/snes1.gif http://dorando.emuverse.com/images/s...world.j_02.png http://hiperactivo.com/escritos/vide...supermario.jpg And don't forget Yoshi's Island!:D http://www.cherryroms.com/screenshot...)_(U)(253).png http://nintendoforever.free.fr/SNes/...and_Intro2.png http://dedens.free.fr/images/Mario/s...orld2_snes.jpg |
Fighter's Destiny; the most original fighting game this decade and I swear by that. It had a point system for the common 3D fighting actions, counter hits, special moves, throws. It was very competitive and I'd use it to teach non-fighting gamers to play 3D fighting games. It was that technical. A sequel came later, but didn't have the same impact.
http://n64media.ign.com/media/previews/image/fdest3.jpg http://n64media.ign.com/media/previews/image/fdest1.jpg http://n64media.ign.com/media/previe...ge/fdest24.jpg The point system was cutomizable, so if you felt a throw was worth 8 points, let it be. |

Here's some Playstation love, with Bloody Roar. It was an interesting concept, that would spawn so-bad-it's-good games later. http://psxmedia.ign.com/media/previe...e/bloody.6.jpg |
Bushido Blade.
http://psxmedia.ign.com/media/reviews/image/bb.4.jpg http://psxmedia.ign.com/media/reviews/image/busb.4.jpg I'm actually considering getting this game to play on my PS2 for it's collectors value alone. Me and my buddy's made the free form fights an art beyond what the developers probably intented. That's what happened when you put it in the hands of anime fans! http://psxmedia.ign.com/media/reviews/image/bush.8.jpg |
Super Mario World!!!! Good one!
|
If you don't know the beauty that is Rival Schools I order you to find a copy for the Playstation and play it. Very Classic.
http://psxmedia.ign.com/media/previe...lflamekick.JPG http://psxmedia.ign.com/media/previe.../rivalflip.JPG Ever wondered who that Kyosuke guy in Capcom vs SNK 2 is? That's him in the blue. ^ |

This was Fear Effect. http://psxmedia.ign.com/media/previe...reffect_25.jpg http://psxmedia.ign.com/media/previe...reffect_26.jpg http://psxmedia.ign.com/media/previe...ge/fe_new8.jpg ^ For a time, the main chick went about the game in little more than a towel (she's in blue). http://psxmedia.ign.com/media/previe...r2/fear_34.jpg ^ In this shot from part two, we have a situation that I'd pay money to hear what dudes explained to their mother/sisters walking in on. |
Fighter's Destiny was awesome, except for the fact that the guy I used to play with had a move that was never blocked or countered, and if you did it repeatedly you would never lose (against the computer anyway).
|
Destruction Derby 2.
I played it to death, wish they'd make a decent update... http://www.gamezero.com/team-0/final...n_derby__1.jpg http://www.gamezero.com/team-0/final...n_derby__2.jpg http://www.videogamecritic.net/image...on_derby_2.jpg |

Destruction Derby used the engine that would later spawn the Driver series right? And Stuntman if I'm not mistaken. |
I like the side by side of Leon in RE4 and RE2; I'm gonna do some more generational comparisons later. The evolution of video games is a wild one.

Rep time |
Brings back old memories. :D
TMNT http://www.games4nintendo.com/nes/thumbs/tmnt.jpg http://www.nesplayer.com/tmnt/nes/tmntnes3.gif http://www.nesplayer.com/reviews/tmnt/screen.gif Super Metroid http://www.nintendogamezone.com/images/metroid_5.jpg http://www.armchairarcade.com/aamain...permetroid.jpg http://www.loogslair.com/vgame/number11.jpg |
Super Metroid was like... God. The first Ninja Turtles was GTA before GTA in the sense that it was actually semi-open ended. And that underwater was the DEVIL!! I'm gonna start posting old games and their new sequals soon.
