Booker T & The MG's..

Highly underratted 60's r'n'b.. They've been called "the greatest backing band on earth", "The Southern Soul equivalent of the Modern Jazz Quartet", and "The Fathers of the Memphis sound.".. You've all heard their song "Green Onions" but when I mention them people are like "who the fuck".. Anyway, if you dig instrumental jazz/R'n'B download their shit..

QUALITY

And look, they're f'n PIMPS..

Ahhh...BAck when R&B was R&B

Penner 02-13-2005 09:33 PM

yeah that green onions song is awesome

Funky Fly 02-14-2005 03:47 AM

Green Onions has probably been used in 1/3 of all movies from the last 30 years.

Funky Fly 02-14-2005 03:48 AM

But yeah, they are the goods. Finding mp3s besides green onions is damn near impossible.

Kris P Lettus 02-14-2005 08:35 AM

I got their greatest hits for like $12.. The only thing wrong with them is no track is over 3 minutes long..

They still rule though..

That's kind of standard for the day though. There was a push for shorter records, meaning shorter songs.

They may be hard to find online, but they're easy to find in stores.

Funky Fly 02-15-2005 03:19 AM

Considering I just recently blew over $100 on CDs, I am in no mood to drop money on any more.

Kane Knight 02-15-2005 11:30 AM

Well, that's hardly my problem, bitch. :p

Actually, both. We're pushing for shorter records for different reasons though.

In fact, the record companies still prefer it if you have longer songs, and about 10 of them. This is dropped from the industry standard of only a decade ago. IT's cheaper for them, since record companies pay more for more songs on a disc. It's also why covers are less prevalent.

For real. The only other one I've got since last I tried is Red Beans & Rice.

Kane Knight 03-30-2005 05:49 PM

I picked up 2 Booker T and the MGs records today. I'll probably rip 'em and put them up later.

el fregadero 03-31-2005 12:57 AM

So you do that yet, KK? I need to find out what this "Green Onions" thing is.

No Green Onions on either record, but that's one of the easiest tracks to find.

I haven't ripped 'em yet, but will make an effort to do so today.

Kane Knight 03-31-2005 01:09 PM

Okay, they should both be up in soulseek now.

Kris P Lettus 03-31-2005 02:25 PM

I can rip Green Onions a send it over AIM if someone would like it..

:y: ??

Kane Knight 03-31-2005 02:50 PM

Also, I've ordered the Rhino collection.

Rhino records is one of the best in the biz when it comes to compilations. They are competent and thorough, so it should be a solid collection. When I get it, I'll put that up toio, since this shit is really quality.

Kane Knight 04-07-2005 10:25 PM

k. I just ripped The BEst of Booker T. & the Mg's to my computer and I'm currently booting up soulseek. This will give people access to green onions, and some other "best of " material.

on top of the other two records I put up.
