RED SOXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Part 3

Well, with Pitchers and Catchers reporting I decided to start up my tpww tradition

Anybody not rooting for the Red Sox this season loves the cock

Loose Cannon 02-13-2005 11:54 PM

Jesus Shuttlesworth 02-13-2005 11:55 PM

This is the offical Red Sox topic that I will post in for the entire season. BCWWF reminded me when he made his topic.

Loose Cannon 02-13-2005 11:56 PM

wait, did they report already? So the season technically has started right?

Jesus Shuttlesworth 02-14-2005 12:08 AM

Nah not yet, people who go early have reported though

BCWWF 02-14-2005 12:18 AM

BCWWF 02-14-2005 02:45 AM

There are no two players in the league that the Twins would ever trade them for

VonErich Lives 02-14-2005 01:25 PM

LC, nice logo :P

Supreme Olajuwon 02-14-2005 01:53 PM

Ortiz is gonna jack about 90

VonErich Lives 02-15-2005 07:09 PM

Ortiz scares me, didn't play winter ball for the first time due to a shoulder injury he got during the Angels series that got worse when they went to Japan.

With his size, I'm worried if he's not active, he could become a Mo Vaughn.

on a funny note, Terry Francona was doing a radio interview and near the end you hear a crash and Terry says something and then "Sorry guys, I gotta go someone just rear-ended me and they have a yankees sticker in their window".

Francona is funny. He did get rearended, but the Yanks comment at the time was funny.

Like when he was on letterman (or leno?) and he said.

"Yeah, you just get used to things, like walking into the lockeroom and their tossing a midger around, or Johnny Damon, one min he's doing naked chinups and a few mins later he's standing on 2nd base with a double"

Just picked up The Sporting News spring preview today, when did Doug get traded to the Met, and what did they get for him? I do not remember this.

BCWWF 02-15-2005 09:45 PM

BTW, shouldn't this only be Pt. 2?

Jesus Shuttlesworth 02-15-2005 10:27 PM

No, this is the 3rd one

I'm pretty mad about that. Doug was the man, I wish they would have traded Millar honestly. He is so bad in the field it makes me sick maybe he'll improve - he showed a LITTLE in the playoffs but I don't know. I guess he is good for the clubhouse, so whatever.

BCWWF 02-15-2005 10:41 PM

WTF cares about the ball anyway?

Jesus Shuttlesworth 02-15-2005 10:59 PM

Me

Red Sox improved their defense and went from being 10 games back of the Yankees to winning the Wild Card then onto the World Series

BCWWF 02-15-2005 11:33 PM

So...you've got yourself a trophy. There are millions of little things you can take from that game, who cares. All that matters is the trophy.

The Icon of Elisim 02-16-2005 05:21 AM

Yeah, I really liked Doug. But I got the feel that he never really fit in with the other players and the management. Seemed like he was just too serious all the time, plus he had some fights with the team through the media.

Personally he's a top 5 first baseman in the AL with Erstad, Morneau, Huff and Tiexera had the Red Sox kept him

The only "fight through the media" was Dan Shagnasey blowing a joking comment out of proportion about the baseball, otherwise they were fine.

I think keeping Kevin was the right move, Millar has a much better bat and can play more then one position, given his fielding is horrible, but part of his offseason routine has been working on that (I know, everyone tries to improve in the offseason) but people forget around her multiple goldglover Wade Boggs was a horrible 3rd baseman and made himself into a gold glover, players like Yaz and Rice would spend hours at the LF wall having balls hit off it to learn every single bounce. So, I think it's possible for Millar to improve, plus Ortiz can play 1st if needed which allows Millar to play OF if needed (see: Trot's yearly injury).

I'd also expect the sox to make a move at some point for a defensive 1st baseman, like they did last year, someone to bring in late in a close game to cover 1st (see: Bill Buckner memories).

The Icon of Elisim 02-16-2005 04:37 PM

He complained about playing time through the media at one point or two in the season

Actually, that was Millar. He said something like "Everyone in this lockerroom is wondering why I'm not in the lineup"

Oh my bad, I thought you ment who cares about the ball like people fielding the ball defensively  I personally don't care about the ball you are talking about.

Dave McCarty is supposely a defensive 1st baseman but I'm not sold on him. Everytime I see him out he just doesn't seem comfortable or whatever. Plus I don't think the Red Sox have much faith in him either seeing how they picked up Doug M last season.

I'm alittle questionable Wells this season, I don't know, I am pretty sure he took #3 to honor Ruth. (I'm assuming he got 3, since I saw a kid wearing a Renteria jersey the other day and it was #16) And I've been here grumblings that he's upset that the Yankees didn't persue him in the off season.

I like the Wells signing because it didn't cost much, it has a huge upside but he has to pitch well to get it and I like contracts like that. He can handle big games, has multiple reasons not to like the Yanks and he's a Lefty and an average lefty in fenway park becomes a good lefty, a good lefty becomes great.

I could be wrong, I thought McCarty retired after the season?

If Millar can't get it done defensivly at first, I think Youkills was working over there and I'm sure they'll get someone who can play great D for late innings.

That being said, I don't think the East is going to be a cake walk for either team (sox or yanks) I think both will make the playoffs, but there are a few good teams that will give them both trouble.

I'm not happy with the Jays and their lack of action this off season, but I suppose I'm still a fan of theirs. Thankfully the Mariners play a ton of games on my TV and I cheer for them abit. Also this Washinton team, guess my heart will follow them a little.
