Mario Kart Hits the Arcades
Mario Kart: The Arcade Game
Pacman joins in on the fun in this surprise title. by Anoop Gantayat <!-- ADTAG: network=ign&site=cube&pagetype=article&articleid=588797§ion_id=551&object1=730461&topic_id=748&g enre=racing&object2=25047&size=skyscraper&size=300x250&size=468x60 --><!-- TYPE=skyscraper --><!-- SIZE --><!-- STYLE=html --> February 17, 2005 - The yearly AOU arcade show tends to have one or two big surprises, and taking this year's spot is none other than Nintendo's main man, Mario. Through a tie-up between Namco and Nintendo, Namco is developing Mario Kart Arcade Grand Prix for arcades. Mario Kart Arcade Grand Prix promises some added bonuses above previous home Mario Kart games. In addition to 24 courses set in 6 different worlds, you can count on some new playable characters, including Pacman. Namco will also be making use of what it calls the "Nam Cam," a camera placed above the monitor which allows players to place themselves in the game. Finally, continuing a growing arcade trend, the game will make use of rewritable cards for saving play data. A Japanese arcade release is set for Fall. We'll have more shortly. http://cube.ign.com/articles/588/588797p1.html |

More pictures, and also showing the camera put to use. |

Interesting except that I've haven't been to an arcade in many many years. It's strange how so many Nintendo games are being developed by other companies now. Namco is doing this Mario Kart thing, as well as the new Star Fox game. Capcom does the gba versions of Legend of Zelda. It just makes me wonder what could be next.

Great. Too bad arcades are dead. Online Mario Kart, please and thank you.

When it's in arcades in the U.K I would love to go a try it out but like Kalyx triaD said, arcades are dead and also arcades in Scotland have gangs hanging around it and if you try to get in they would probably try to stab you,so I doubt it would be released on the Gamecube. :-\
