WARNING about YouSendIt.com

I've been hearing that YouSendIt.com is considering trying to shut down web sites that use YouSendIt for free uploading of files for the public. They have the ability to track you down by finding out which site referred the visitor to YouSendIt. (even I can find out which web sites referred my visitors to my own web site.) I would suggest that you do something like the following to your YouSendIt URLs:

hhttp://s3.yousendit.com/EFPFHSD67SAG78SF6G98FS7DDF987SD

Where you alter just the "HTTP" part. This way, when you copy and paste, you can start from the end, drag to the left, and copy everything but the first H.

Interesting... they knew people would use the site for this purpose, yet they get mad about it? I'm prolly missing something, but sounds ridiculous to me.

Savio 03-09-2005 02:46 PM

I think this should be stickied so people get the word.

Justdisturbed 03-09-2005 05:36 PM

you could also put this http://anonym.to/? infront of the http://yousenditlink it blocks the referrer

Example
http://anonym.to/?http://s3.yousendi...G98FS7DDF987SD

theres info about http://anonym.to/? at that address

Or we could just tell people to copy and paste the link...

TerranRich 03-10-2005 08:54 AM

Excellent idea, Justdisturbed, that'll work too.

TerranRich 03-14-2005 04:05 PM

And REMEMBER people, this does NOT prevent people from being assholes and deleting stuff we upload to YouSendIt.com. This merely prevents YouSendIt from seeing TPWW.net in their referers list and trying to shut us down. Which I would imagine is more important, no? ;)

Funky Fly 03-14-2005 08:41 PM

K, I would say this is sticky worthy.

Marcyo 03-14-2005 08:57 PM

:y:

Justdisturbed 03-14-2005 11:09 PM

is there any way that we could prevent guests from downloading the files and deleting them?

Funky Fly 03-14-2005 11:21 PM

Yes and no. Currently, guests have the ability to see download from any you send it links posted. We could stop them by making the wrestling unviewable to guests in the same way that the casual forum is. However, such an idea would be "bad business" for TPWW, since the wrestling forum is one of TPWW.net's attractions that draws a lot of hits.

Drakul 03-15-2005 05:04 AM

Can't you make the thread locked to guests? That way guest get the wrestling forum but cant get in the thread.

Jonster 03-15-2005 07:04 AM

Couldn't you do it ala, "post here and I'll pm you the link"?

What about moving the thread?

SuperSlim 03-15-2005 08:13 AM

I think Jonster has the right idea

Kane Knight 03-15-2005 11:11 AM

God, do we really need 10 stickied topics?

Funky Fly 03-15-2005 12:20 PM

It's only stickied for a few days, you bleeding vag.

Kane Knight 03-15-2005 12:34 PM

It's also fucking retarded.

Funky Fly 03-15-2005 03:34 PM

You wanna see fucking retarded?

TerranRich 03-15-2005 11:41 PM

I think the best way is to have a separate Wrestling Videos FORUM. Each thread would be a "Post here for a PM to the YSI link" deal, where one would announce his/her media to offer, then any who post would be PMed the link. This would have to be the responsibility of the poster, though.

Ok, i may sound dumb asking these questions, but i have never used it before..

Who's email addy do you put if i wanted to put it on TPWW?

Do you make your own URL when sending it?

Marcyo 03-20-2005 10:04 AM

www.rapidshare.de

yousendit = lets flame it in a trash can.

Nobody can delete the rapidshare files, except the one who uploaded them

TerranRich 03-20-2005 12:16 PM

YouSendIt generates a random amount of letters and numbers and sends it to whoever's email y ou put in the field. Obviously, if you don't want to send it to anybody n particular, just send it to yourself. You'll still get the link on the web page when it's done uploading anyway.

And I LOVE RapidShare. I shelled out the 10 EURO (~13 dollars) for the 10GB of download space, and I couldn't be happier when someone posts a RapidShare link. It's fast and I don't have to wait. if you have a couple of bucks to spare, I'd suggest doing it.

The ONLY problem with RapidShare is one that affects all of them: if nobody downloads the file for a long period of time, it gets deleted. But that's reasonable ayway.
