England is playing friendlys in Chicago and New York

I am going to see if I can get tickets to go to the game at Soldier Field, its on May 21 I think, that'd be sweet.

That's good bro.

Enjoy!

The Columbia game should be the better one.

Nervous Ferret 03-11-2005 08:12 PM

If you're really desperate to go then great but for me, ionno, England friendly games are horrible most of the time.

Two summers ago Manchester United did a US tour where they played Celtic, Real Madrid, Club America, and Juventus and I'm pretty sure it sold out like Giants Stadium and stuff, so who knows. Beckham and Owen likely won't be there, but how often does an English national team come to the US.

And Ferrett, an MLS game in RFK is obviously going to look empty, its like a 60,000 seat stadium. The places that actually have soccer specific stadiums actually draw pretty well.

Nervous Ferret 03-11-2005 09:24 PM

to bad thats Giants stadium

Nervous Ferret 03-11-2005 09:25 PM

which is actually 80,000 but heyyy..

Nervous Ferret 03-11-2005 09:35 PM

Ohh and tell me a place in the U.S that is a "soccer specific" stadium. I heard there building one for the MetroStars soon, but not till' 2008

BCWWF 03-12-2005 05:07 AM

If its Giants Stadium it proves my point even more, you expect a regular season MLS game to have a big crowd behind the goal in an 80,000 seat stadium? During national matches and the MLS Cup maybe, but not in a random game.

Home Depot Center in Los Angeles seats 27,000 and from what I know has good attendance. Crew Stadium in Columbus holds 22,500. I believe they are building one in Oklahoma somewhere to try to lure an MLS team.

For the same reason WNBA doesn't work well in NBA venues, MLS doesn't work well in NFL venues, but for the teams that have MLS venues they are doing quite alright.

That should be cool. Sunderland are touring Canada and the USA pre-season. I think they are going to Vancouver and Seattle.

Ogen 03-12-2005 12:48 PM

USA will it, Erickson takes the piss out of friendlys you'll probably get to see at least 22 English players through it most of whom will me played in mad positions

Fignuts 03-12-2005 05:01 PM

off to chicago then

BCWWF 03-12-2005 05:18 PM

I think Ogen is right based on the promo, but still

Loose Cannon 03-13-2005 11:13 AM

yea, was thinking about going, but there is a WWE PPV "ECW SHOW" around the same time, so I think I'm going to that one.

FIFA changed the rules to limit it to 6 substitutions during friendlies.

England tend to play pretty strong starting lineups for friendlies and the big players should be there. So id go if i were you, it'll give you a chance to see some great players that you might not get another chance to see (trying not to sound patronising there :$)

Ogen 03-14-2005 02:57 PM

I thought Erickson and a few others said they were going to ignore that rule tbh
