Triple H's Long Promos
Watching Triple H's promo on Raw, I got to thinking...
People have complained about how his long promos are 'the same every week' or 'hogging air time' but there is a reason that he's allowed to talk for so long. And it ain't because he's married to the boss' daughter. It's because he is that damn good. There are very few people who can deliver such well memorised/improvised promos. The way he is so natural gives whatever he is saying instant credibility and, even though some of you might not like to admit it, he draws you into what he is saying. Triple H, in my mind, immediately puts people over as soon as he mentions them in his promos. The way he's been booked since he was given the World Title means that if you're hanging with him, you're doing something right, and the fans appreciate that. Cutting a 20 minute promo on Batista every week does nothing but good if you ask me. To anyone who says that half his air time should go to someone like Hassan, think about it... Triple H is the one about to headline the biggest PPV of the year, and he's damn good at talking for a long time, so why not let him get on with it? It makes sense to me. |
I was thinking the exact same thing.
|
!!!!!!
|
His promo was good tonight...but I did fear the worst when he pulled the chair out to sit.
|
ya I agree. HHH is no Rock but he can cut one hell of a promo
|
He might be good at promo work but...he's got a formula that he sticks to that bores most of us. Yeah, he's good at getting people over in his promos but it's just gotton so old. He's been the Heavyweight champion for so long, people are sick of him.
I'm tired and stoned. LEAVE ME THE FUCK ALONE! |
HHH can deliver and deliver well. Sometimes I'm against the time he takes to say it all but in the end it's all worth it cause it actually makes everything better.
|
Hard to tell if this was one of your old "real wrestling stories" that you used to do back in the day
Yeah I realy don't mind Trips' mic work at any time, although it does kind of sound the same much of the time, he does the job and to the casual fan I think he seems pretty legit. Casual fans though will be bored that he's always champ though and hence they may change the channel. |
yeah he is pretty good on the mic....but god the raw formula usually is like 4 matches and a triple h monolgue for the longest..... i think the wwe should just give him like an hour long show on tuesday where he can talk maybe he can do hamlet. im getting tired of long ass promos instead of wrestling

In all seriousness, people can preach how good he is. I haven't seen a full Triple H promo in years, because 2 minutes in, I'm zapping him.
He gets long promos not because he's thast good, but because he failed speech class and it takes him 10 minutes to get a single thought out. Sorry, too drained to take Jabba with his usual grain of salt. |
I don't think anyone is questioning his talent on the mic or wrestling. People are just sick of seeing him do the same shit week in and week out. They want some new fresh face, compared to seeing him all the time.
|
It's just that he does it over and over again. Fans don't hate him because what he says pisses him off, they hate him because he's selfish. I'm convinced that he thinks that a good heel is either.

You know, I appreciate JBL's mic work, hate him or not. He's got skill. I pay attention to him. Triple H is a human piss break. |

I agree with KK. I haven't seen a full Triple H promo in years. I'll see him on, listen to him for a second and then walk out of the room and miss the rest. During his promo tonight, I watched a little, to the point where the lights dimmed, and then went outside to jog.
|
Just about any other person with good mic skills in the WWE could have given that same promo in half to 3/4 of the time HHH spent. Not that the promo was bad, because it was great (unlike RKO's tonight), it's just that it took way too long.
|
the basic triple h promo is i am the gameuh and i am that damn gooduh and at wrestlemania i'm gonna kickuh batistas assuh because i am the greatest wrestler of all timeuh

This isn't good mic skills. Hell, Howard Stern can get conservatives to listen in so they can bitch about him round the water cooler. Same with Rush and the Dems. They CAPTIVATE an audience that hates them. Triple H can't captivate people. Nobody can when they're spending twice the time needed to say something. Long-winded is bad. JBL makes me want to listen. Heel Rock did the same thing. He had me and my friends bitching about his attitude the next day. :D Jericho did it. Triple H doesn't. While you can argue that he has good mic skills, he just takes too long to say it, I say that brevity, a to-the-point style, is incredibly important to mic skills. I'm not saying every promo should be 30 seconds long, but you should say what you need to say, and not waste large ammounts of time. |
LOL, I don't know if this is bullshit or not from you because of the first sentenceof your last paragraph there. Yea, let's give HHH 20 minutes for a 6 minute promo and leave a hot young prospect off the show. I love that idea.
I said it yesterday in another thread and I'll say it again in here, HHH's promos turn people off and they lose viewers most of the time. He takes wayyyyyyyyyy to long to say what he has to say. Nobody gives a shit about what the hell he's saying 5 minutes in. Funny, last night I flipped to "24" during the HHH promo. "24" went to commercial and I flipped back to Raw. HHH still talking. Flipped back to "24" for about 9 minutes. Flipped to Raw again during commercial and the fucker is still talking. My brother goes "What the fuck is he doing, delievering a State of the Union Address?" That was a funny one. HHH is ok if he's not given 8-20 minutes for talking. |

Any of you think that if HHH divorces Steph, he goes to TNA?

Incidentally, if Triple H could keep it short, he'd probably be damn good on the mic. It's the fact that he's longwinded and BORING. I liked the "I am gonna beat him like a bag of puppies" line. :D
|
Has anybody ever watched any old NWA stuff featuring Harley Race? Well if you have then you would see a striking resemblance. HHH is not only resembling Race in his moves, but also in his apperance and speech. Anyone notice HHH's new beard? Guess who sported that back in the day. Instead of bashing HHH's promos like others, I see them as a sort of emulation of someone who has had a big influence on Trips.
|
I went to take a dump, came back and he was still gabbing away. :wtf:
|
I think his promos from late 97-01 were golden after that....meh

so basically it was still shit when you came back to the tv |
He rambles, it's not like he's eloquently speaking. He's fooled you guys by being the only one really given any mic time, so know you think he's good. A curse on all your gardens.
|
*Walks Outside* AH MY GARDENS!!!!!!!! :'( :wavesad: Goodbye lovely flowers....goodbye.
|
HHH does do occasionally great promos.
When he was on the highlite reel with Eugene last year, he was brilliant. WHen he talks slowly, breathes deeply and uses cheap heel tactics like "i don't bother this girl when she's working on the corner", then he sucks. personally, i think he's ok. BUT, 15 mins of a HHH promo is way too long! |

and he does have some good lines. "Hand over the number jumping bean" |

The 2 people he puts over? Himself, and Batista.....the next guy he can make money off. Considering Triple H isn't a huge draw, a 20 minute promo could be murder on the ratings. I'm willing to bet that the quarter hour ratings for that segment was one of the lowest on the show. |
He hasn't-uhhh, done this-uhhh, since-uhhh, the 90's-uhhh..
|
A curse on all your gardens...
Where've I heard that before? |
The word 'Mercutio' comes to mind for some reason..
