How long has Vince had his Big Man fetish?

.

TerranRich 03-27-2005 05:34 PM

Since he first took over control of the WWF from his father.

Disturbed316 03-27-2005 05:40 PM

Since Andre the Giant came in his hair when he was younger.

Remember, wrestling used to be about hosses.

He probably grew up with it.

What? Vince never had any ''Big man fetish''. I don't know what you're talking about.

Wait, since Andre came in whose hair? Vince's or his own?

Because if it were his own hair, that'd explain that big afro thing he had going on in the early 80's. :wtf:

Corndad 03-27-2005 11:46 PM

He had his chance to stop...when all his hosses just plain sucked...

*cough* Psycho Sid *cough*

Kane Knight 03-28-2005 12:06 AM

He stilll has his chance to change. But he won't. He doesn't care what the fans want, and therein is the problem.

PureHatred 03-28-2005 12:14 AM

Not that I'm against old-school wrestling, but half the roster in the 80's were just big guys with a little wrestling skill and a costume/gimmick. Hillbilly Jim, Big John Studd, Nikolai Volkoff, Hercules Hernandez, the Power of Pain, Demolition, Ulitmate Warrior....so yeah it was probably something he was raied with. In his mind, wrestlers should inherently be "big men."

Which raises two questions: since he was so willing to take risks as far as storylines and the direction of his company, why is he such a traditionalist when it comes to that? And also, since Shane is such a 'spotfest' as a wrestler, when Vince retires is there any hope that Shane will be more willing to look at a different type of performer to carry his company?

In a word....YES!

That's the thing. Wrestling was very much about the big man. The hoss. The muscles. Impressive looking. But wrestling has so clearly evolved, and Vince was one of the forces in that evolution, so it makes you wonder why he would return to aspects of the past when he should be looking at how changes affected the business.

Hell, he can take risks by creating the XFL and WWE films, but the minute you suggest checking out this Mordecia guy's skills before he wrestles at a PPV? You're talking crazy now.

What's up with that?

PureHatred 03-28-2005 12:46 AM

Baffling.

Like Jeff Hardy's sexuality.

PureHatred 03-28-2005 12:55 AM

Seriously, he's willing to gamble his entire company on the Wrestlemania concept, he's willing to take on a multimedia conglomerate like AOL/Time warner, but if AJ Styles fell in the WWE's lap tomorrow, there's a good chance by the time Summerslam rolled around he'd be jobbing on Velocity.

That is only because A.J. Styles sucks. It would have been better if you said Ultimo Dragon or Jerry Lynn or any cruiserweight they have that is worth a damn that isn't Rey Mysterio Jr.

Also, it isn't baffling why Vince, who changed the industery with ppv and going global and all that other crap hasn't gotten away from his big man fetish. It is simple really. When Vince started, it was his bread and butter. So when he booked wrestlemainia at first, he kept the core of it what he knew best, "big men = ratings." When Vince took over all the regional territories, again, he kept the core what he knew best, "big men = ratings." So while he tested new waters, he relied on big men, so it is hardwired into him now. "Big men ratings."

Plus, it isn't like he hasn't started to get away from that. I mean Jericho, Micheals, Bret Hart, Angle, Beniot, and Eddie Guerrero aren't that big and they all became champions.

Then again, when 3 best selling wrestlers are 6'3"+ 250 lbs+, you start looking for size as part of the package.
