What other bands are like New Order?

???

El Capitano Gatisto 03-31-2005 10:45 PM

Joy Division.

Ninti the Mad 03-31-2005 10:49 PM

I was just about to download some.

Depeche mode is also where it's at.

All I ever wanted. :'(

Ninti the Mad 03-31-2005 10:50 PM

Man, this is the best form of music.

El Capitano Gatisto 03-31-2005 10:57 PM

Try British Sea Power too. Their second album comes out next week. Same kind of stuff, except a bit more dramatic.

Cactus Sid 04-01-2005 06:09 AM

I don't like them, but that single from The Bravery sounds like New Order, so I guess you could try the Bravery :-\

Sounds nothing like New Order. Sounds more like the Strokes mated to the Killers, in a cynical attempt to play on the recent success of both. The Bravery are fucking awful.

Cactus Sid 04-01-2005 11:40 AM

I was just sort of thinking about the electronic bit at the beginning, had a sort of Blue Monday feel to it

Lamuella 04-01-2005 01:38 PM

Monaco were fairly New Order-esque.

As were Electronic.

The Killers singer actually came out recently and slagged off the Bravery as being signed solely on the success of The Killers and to be some sort of imitators.

The Killers are way better by a country mile.

Gertner 04-01-2005 03:25 PM

New Order= heart!

Fabien Barthez 04-01-2005 11:38 PM

Kernkraft maybe.

New order are pretty unique.

Try some Mylo and Prodigy. All electronica experimental stuff.

Ninti the Mad 04-02-2005 01:52 AM

No Prodigy bullshit.

I like the simple elegance of New Order.

Joy Division and Depeche Mode are equally up there.

Fabien Barthez 04-03-2005 01:19 AM

Well, New Order are an indie band who use electronica influences.

So early Prodigy and Kernkraft and Daft Punk are the electronica side, then stuff like Stone Roses and Smiths and The Cure are the indie side.

There are no bands with a similar sound to New Order though.

Also when I say Prodigy, I mean earlier stuff than Firestarter and Breathe.

Danny Electric 04-03-2005 03:28 AM

Songs like Charlie and Jericho sound nothing like New Order.
Yeah go with Joy Divison and Depeche Mode, I'm also guessing you'll like or do like The Cure. I'd start off with 'Disintegration' as the first album you buy or download.

Fabien Barthez 04-03-2005 01:52 PM

Neither do any of those bands. New Order have a unique sound. Joy Division, Depeche Mode and The Cure, none use electronica underbeats.

Depeche mode only sound similar because Dave Gahan has a similar deep voice.

The Outlaw 04-03-2005 02:31 PM

I dunno, but Depeche Mode are pritty hot.

Gertner 04-03-2005 08:12 PM

yeah, Prodigy is nothing like New Order. this is also coming from a person you only listens to this stuff.

The Gooch 04-04-2005 01:09 PM

Depeche Mode's earlier stuff has a New Order feel. Give 101 a listen.

Lamuella 04-04-2005 01:35 PM

The Lightning Seeds sound like New Order would sound if they weren't very good.

Fabien Barthez 04-04-2005 02:38 PM

Nothing sounds the same as New Order. Get the point. They made dark 80's Indie like the Smiths, The Cure Depeche Mode etc... They incorperated electronica Like all the bands I said before.

That, is the answer to the question.
The Lightning Seeds were good, and couldn't be more different from New Order unless the were fronted by Marylin Manson.

"Bizarre Love Triangle" and "Just can't get enough" from Depeche Mode definitely have the same feel.

I am not sure what era that you are comparing, but DM's earlier stuff had a very solid electronic beat to it. You are correct Gahan voice lends to comparisons as well.

Anyone pick up Gahan's solo album? Just saw it over the weekend. It looked interesting. I always though he would be a good replacement for Michael Hutchence in INXS as there were rumours he was questioning his role in DM.

Fabien Barthez 04-04-2005 09:50 PM

I saw him live a few years ago at a festival.

His solo stuff is more rocking than that of DM.
