Wrestlemania 21..blows

Seems to be getting slapped around in reviews all over the place, nice graphics but thats about it. :-\

Funky Fly 04-20-2005 11:57 PM

Why don't they just port SvR over and save themselves the trouble? :-\

AareDub 04-20-2005 11:57 PM

The reader review over IGN is a 9.5 with 70 something votes so far. That's a little encouraging.

Isn't IGN generally harsh on rassling anyway? Might explain the difference between 6.0 and 9.5.

Kane Knight 04-21-2005 01:11 AM

Also, most of those reviews are pretty petty.

Now, I don't know if the game's good or not, but they seem to go out of their way to find things to nitpick, making me wonder if the hit detection and AI are really all that bad. If you're bitching about the lack of "ambient music" or the "Menu formats," something's up.

Meh.. The Team Xbox review made it sound like there was no back button for the menus. You had to go through with everything, then quit out of the match if you messed up.

Also, I don't like the idea of having to change something in CAW, and not being able to see it right then. They again, made it sound like you had to go into a match to see if you liked the change, then exit out and remove it if you didn't.

I knew Mo-cap was a bad idea, you are just asking for a glitch fest. However, the team X-box review did have a picture of "Orton going down to Captain Charisma"! :D

SuperSlim 04-21-2005 09:59 AM

well the game comes in today at GameStop for me and I'm supposed to pick it up and since I have tomorrow off I plan on testing it out and will proabbly give my own review of the game.

Wish me luck

online mode doesn't even work LOL

Quote:

The first post-release news is out regarding THQ's WrestleMania 21 and it ain't good. It seems some (if not all) copies of the Xbox grappler, which hit retail stores today, are not Xbox Live-enabled, despite this online connectivity being a major selling point of the game. When trying to connect to the network service in-game players (including people here in the GameSpot office) are receiving a "Could not connect to Xbox Live" error message, despite the service working fine with other games on the same consoles. Pre-release copies of the game we played were functional online, though "functional" is a relative term considering the amount of lag we witnessed. It sounds like something went wrong on the production end of things and ended up in a glitched game heading out to retailers.

THQ and Microsoft are currently working on a remedy for this ugly situation, which begs the question: could a recall be far behind? If you're eager to pick up WM 21 for its online play, it's probably in your best interest to hold off until things becomes more clear.

:lol::wtf:

UmbrellaCorporation 04-21-2005 07:15 PM

ROFL, yeah.

I read somewhere that since XBL isn't sending any packets to connect, it's not the server. It's the game (supposedly). Supposedly there's no way to fix it save a mass recall of the game or a disk.

It's not like anyone can connect to XBL though WM 21 right now anyway, so even if it had downloadable content, it wouldn't do you a damn bit of good.

Glad I didn't buy this.

wwe2222 04-21-2005 10:07 PM

I bought the game today...I am so far very very disappointed.

Game looks ok

Plays decent

But the CAW is severaly lacking in options so far (i assume I have to buy everything else in the WWE store)

For some reason my character sounds like John Cena

When you hit a finisher or something, it looks like a regular move...unlike some other games where at least you feel like you hit a finisher.

The career mode im not really impressed with so far other than they have character voice overs.

Controls are weird so far...

wwe2222 04-22-2005 12:29 AM

i just won the f'n tag titles and now the f'n freezes..

G 04-22-2005 12:44 AM

Lara Emily 04-22-2005 07:33 AM

It's pretty much crap. The Ai is super cheap and it takes you song long to get back up that by the time you do you're knocked down again like that.

It froze once while loading.

Plus side is the voice overs are pretty decent and the cutscenes are neat but the gameplay sucks.

wwe2222 04-22-2005 08:53 AM

Why is it to complicated to make a decent wrestling game...

even little things they couldnt do right...in my tag team title match the dudley boys didnt even come down together...they had seperate entrances and they are the tag team champs for cryin out loud!!

the only good thing is that the wrestlers actually wear the belts to the ring

there is also no special ring attire you can wear to the ring and then remove...whatever you put on your character stays on your character

i had such high hopes...do they even talk to wrestling fans when they make these games?

Lara Emily 04-22-2005 09:28 AM

Yeah it's overall still pretty bad but I'm getting into the storymode. The voiceovers are the bets thing done in this game

Lara Emily 04-22-2005 09:48 AM

ok this cannot be the proper reelease, things that are supposed to be unlockable come unlocked right away, all the caw entrance stuff.

Lara Emily 04-22-2005 09:50 AM

One cool scene though, I'm US champ, I interfear via cutscene in a Cena/JBL mattch, knock JBL out silly, Cena goes to punch me I used the belt to block the punch, Cena punches the belt and hurts his hand then I knock him silly with the belt.

Cut scenes are way to easy to skip thouhg you even so much as blow on the controller and it skips.

Lara Emily 04-22-2005 11:36 AM

Hmm, it's still bad but it's getting better

...And you'll play the game religiously until the next POS comes out.

The Cerebral Assassin 04-22-2005 01:18 PM

Why is there so much shit to unlock in this game? Do the developers actually expect us to play through multiple times to get it all? I'll be lucky if I actually complete this piece of shit the first time.

Lara Emily 04-22-2005 01:33 PM

The more I play the more I enjoy. It's still not what I would call a good game but it's not without it's good points. One of the better linear story modes in wrestling history

V 04-22-2005 05:07 PM

bo and lara, they may do a call back to get versions where online mode actually work out, and they may fix all the glitches

to mee it seems they rushed to get it out.. very terrible game testing on the "final" version

DS 04-22-2005 05:32 PM

They are suppose to put out an Auto Update via Xbox Live to fix it.

Hmmm...Sounds like Microsoft...

Though not necessarily like Studio Gigawhatsit.

I'm not too familliar with the XBox, but you should be able to make a connection without the game being involved in terms of uploading a patch.

The problem is that this is the future of video games.

James Steele 04-22-2005 10:54 PM

Hell, it would be easier just to port No Mercy to XBox and make it online and it would sell like shit you wouldn't even believe.

SuperSlim 04-23-2005 12:12 AM

I got it and watched the computer first, and created a person... so far my opinion of it

meh

Only if they can upgrade the speed and everything. It was a great game but behind the times.

Agreed. Keep the same exact game, give it a graphics upgrade and some speed tweaking and it would be golden.

Lara Emily 04-23-2005 02:55 AM

So they patched it via Xbox live, apparently fixes offline bugs too, too bad i don't have Xbox live. *sigh*

V 04-23-2005 05:22 AM

that is bullshit, they should let you do it for free insteading of making you buy x-box live to fix their mistakes

I suppose it depends on where the failing to connect happens in the connection process, but I'm assuming that the only way they could patch it (as you can't connect via the game) is to give every single person the patch :-\

I doubt those are our only options here.

By "our," I mean your, because.

wwe2222 04-23-2005 01:35 PM

has anyone figured out if you can use the wwe superstar themes for your wrestler

and if you can have ring attire like flair's robe, etc

SuperSlim 04-23-2005 02:08 PM

I'm just wondering if you can create divas
