The Ultimate Poll: The Simpsons vs Family Guy: What is the better show?
What is it going to be. Two great shows head to head.
|
Simpsons is a superior show
|
I have to go with Family Guy. I grew up on the Simpsons, no doubt about it. I have a lot of old episodes on tape. Hell, I didn't like Family Guy during it's first run. I was one of the people who said "It's a Simpsons rip off, I'll never watch that shit!" I watched it a FEW times during it's first run, but it didn't grow on me, mainly because I only saw maybe two or three original airings.
But then, just out of pure curiosity, I watched it on Cartoon Network and fell in love. I now own all three seasons on DVD and plan on getting the next seasons when they come out. Family Guy just has that 'something'. I get many more laughs out of it than I EVER did with The Simpsons. There will always be a special place in my heart for The Simpsons, but Family Guy will always rank up at the top two of my favorite cartoon series list (the other being South Park), unless something else comes along, and I don't see that happening. Here's to you, Pea-Tear-Griffin! :y: |
Gotta go with Simpsons, just because it's been on for so long and has so many great episodes.
|
While new Simpsons epsidoes are not what they used to be...
As a whole collective entity.... The Simpsons wins. |
Family Guy :y:
I've watched Simpsons since '91, and haven't really followed the new episodes since 2001 or 2002. I find that even when I see some of the old Simpsons episodes, when the show was at it's best, I still enjoy Family Guy more. That's not to say that Simpsons sucks or anything, I like The Simpsons, it's just that I like Family Guy even more. |
Simpsons > Every other cartoon ever > Family Guy
Okay, that's a big exaggeration, but that's how wide the gulf is between the greatness of The Simpsons and the occasional rofl humor of Family Guy, imo. Family Guy has some pretty funny moments, but there has never been anything on TV that compares to The Simpsons. Nothing. I can't believe this question even needs to be asked. It's like saying, "Which is better: Seinfeld or Rodney?" |
Futurama
Here's to a great show, we hardly knew ye. |
If you said this like one or 2 years ago I would have said Simpsons.

The Simpsons was a great show. Then Matt Goening left to work on Futurama. At that point the show lost its soul and has sucked ever since.
Family Guy is the better of the 2 now, but it can't hold the original Simpsons' jock. |
All time?
Simpsons, hands down. |

Both are great, and that is how I voted. Family Guy did always make me laugh more. |

I went with Simpsons. I haven't seen too much of Family Guy to know how good it is. It sucks that here in Mass they only play Simpsons once a day at 7:30. Unless they play it late at night then I don't know. If I can give one phrase to explain the Simpsons it would be PEANUT BUTTER JELLY WITH A BASEBALL BAT!
|
I'm goin with Family Guy.. Simpsons was good, but it just never made me laugh as much as Family Guy.
|
Family Guy because it's still fresh
|
^ Because they haven't made an episode in three years! It's real easy to not repeat yourself when you get canceled before you get the chance.
|
Out of the Simpsons and Family guy. Family Guy
Futurama is better then both of them though. |
I love both shows, but Simpsons is the better one.
Family Guy has the potential to be greater with more seasons provided the FCC and FOX don't drop it AGAIN. |
As much as I love the Simpsons, I am always laughing my ass off during Family Guy. The Simpons always made me chuckle throughout, but I'm actually crying laughing at some points in Family Guy. Plus, Seth has a lot of little knock off things from the 80's, which is when I grew up.
However, I think Southpark owns them both. |
Family Guy proves that it has been and always will be great. From the first episode to the newest leaked one, it's kept me in stitches the whole way through.
Simpsons is just stale. |

While Simpsons is the big deal im going with Family Guy just for the fact that the show was so good that I purchased the DVDs and now have almost every word in every episode memorized........ive watched them that match...family guy is sorta like the bible to my cousins and I. We dont go a day with out saying a few quotes from it.

The Simpsons. Hands down. This shouldn't be a question, loopydate is right.
Yes, Family Guy is hilarious. But the simple truth of the matter is that without the Simpsons, Family Guy never would have even existed. The Simpsons opened the doorway to prime time cartoons, and although it suffered somewhat of a downturn from late season 11 to season 14 when Groening put all his effort into Futurama and Mike Scully took Executive Producing rights of the show and tried to (for whatever reason) emulate Family Guy humour by making the show more random and spontaneous - increasing Homer's stupidity, for example - it was still a right sight better than most of the shit on TV these days. Still, that's not the formula that worked for the Simpsons in the past, and it sure as hell didn't work in those years. However, with the departure of Scully, The Simpsons has notably improved. The newer episodes of Season 15 onwards have been of season 9-10 quality which, while not the standard of The Golden Age (late season 4-season 8), is still a right sight higher quality than most of the shit on TV. The Simpsons have had a consistently excellent run, dropping the ball comparatively minimally when compared to other shows of the genre. Of course Family Guy hasn't dropped the ball yet, they haven't had the chance. As far as I'm concerned, the first 3 seasons of Family Guy don't even hold a candle to Seasons 4-8 of the Simpsons, and until such time as I see a run that lasts 4 1/2 seasons of flawless comedy (There is not a single bad episode in that Simpsons run), my vote will stay with the original and the best. |
And since it got a mention in the thread, I also hold Futurama in higher regard than Family Guy. It was hilarious, thought provoking and even powerful when it wanted to be. The characters and animation were wonderful, and the storylines were excellent. If there was ever a show that was cancelled in it's prime, it would be Futurama. :(

They make me laugh, so they both rule in equal proportions
|
Between those two the Family Guy wins hands down.
I don't find the Simpsons funny at all But Futurama is better than them both. |
The simpsons used to be the better show. After 55 years on the air, they've become stale and boring. Family Guy hasn't been around as long, but comparing current products, it wins.
Still, Futurama owns them both as other have said. |
I voted for Family Guy. I felt bad cause I used to love the Simpsons...but Family Guy makes me laugh on a more regular basis.
Futurama was a good show, one that im only beginning recently to appreciate since it comes on before Family Guy at night. The first few simpsons halloween specials were always my favorite episodes. Even those are terrible now. |
Family Guy is real good... but if you were to compare it to the Simpsons now then Family Guy would win hands down.
compare the first three seasons of both shows then I would have to side with Simpsons. |
I had to go with Family Guy, at least for the moment. I am still a big Simpsons fan though.
|
Can't stand new Simpsons so Family guy. But I have been watching series 3 of the simpsons recently and its brilliant. So Older Simpsons > Family Guy > New Simpsons.
|
Simpsons, though Family Guy is still great.
|
If you want mindless humor, go with Family Guy.
If you want something deeper, go with the Simpsons. Futurama :'( |
Simpsons was great but the question is "What IS the better show?" as in right now. Family Guy.
|
I used to watch simpsons everyday. I mean I would not miss it. Then I saw family guy and that all changed. I tried to watch a simpsons episode recently and it was almost unbearable. It pales in comparison to family guy. The only reson people may choose simpsons is because it's been on so long, and some people who grew up watching it may not want to admit that it's not as good as FG.

If you're counting the reruns as being current, then you gotta count the Golden Age "Simpsons" that run in syndication, too. |
