Wrestlers Shooting on Someone in the Ring

I read an article yesterday that Rico, who was working for All-Japan Pro Wrestling, has decided to retire after another wrestler decided to shoot on him in the ring. I was wondering if anyone else knows of any famous "shoots" during a match. I know Hardcore Holly knocked around Rene Dupree a couple of times but I cannot recall any major shoots in the modern era(back in the territory days shoots were more common) can any of you?

John la Rock 05-03-2005 09:40 PM

Vince Russo shooting on Hulk Hogan at Bash at Bash at the Beach 2000 is probably the most memorable

redoneja 05-03-2005 09:44 PM

Sorry, I meant during a match instead of shoot interviews

Well, Holly got his arm broken because he tried to make Lesnar look bad...

Puder @ Royal Rumble

Regal shot on/stiffed Goldberg during Goldberg's winning streak.

redoneja 05-03-2005 09:59 PM

The only real significant shoot that I can recall hearing about happened in 1905 when Frank Gotch hired a German wrestler to injure George Hackenschmidt before there match for the World Heavyweight Championship.

I think Lou Thesz and Ed Lewis were involved in some shoots during their reigns.

M. Banana 05-03-2005 10:09 PM

Owned.

Marcyo 05-03-2005 10:10 PM

yeah.

Loose Cannon 05-03-2005 11:02 PM

yea, Regal. Hilllarious.

He was fired for that though :(

redoneja 05-03-2005 11:07 PM

Regal shot on Goldberg? Plz expand.

M. Banana 05-03-2005 11:08 PM

I think he was supposed to be "teaching" Goldberg how to wrestle, and the match ran longer than it was supposed to and he was fired as soon as he passed through the curtain.

The Naitch 05-03-2005 11:08 PM

I remember Brock dropping Holly on his head. Good times

M. Banana 05-03-2005 11:09 PM

Memmer when he almost broke A-Train's neck or some shit?

KayfabeMan 05-03-2005 11:31 PM

I remember once Saturn was working with an indy guy [Mike Bell] on a fed show. Bell botched a spot, I think like a hiptoss or something, and Saturn flew off the handle and beat the shit out of him. I think he stiffed him a few times, slammed him on the floor, beat him down a bit more and then bashed him into the steps pretty hard [IIRC].

I remember Saturn getting suspended and shit for that.

And you also have to count some of the Brawl For All matches from the late '90's. A number of people got banged up during those things - since they were legit. Althought I would not really call them 'shoots', because technically they were just real bouts, whereas in wrestling a shoot is more of a real fight breaking out of a scheduled work.

M. Banana 05-03-2005 11:36 PM

Who can forget the picture that someone posted a while back of what Low Ki did?

This was the WWE Heat/Velocity/whatever show, right? Or was there another incident? because IIRC, Saturn in THAT incident was to blame, he fucked up and took it out on the other guy (Who was an indy fed jobber).

Holly broke his back against Lesnar. He broke his arm against Angle, dumb ass.

Eddie beat up a fan during a ladder match once, it was pretty sweet.

Loose Cannon 05-04-2005 12:53 AM

Holly broke/hurt his neck against Lesner. Dumb ass

Gotta love the irony of someone correcting my mistake with a mistake.

Loose Cannon 05-04-2005 01:06 AM

Not really "shooting on someone" but

Jerry Lawler stiffed the shit out of Bret at Summerslam 93 when he whacked him with the septar. Bret said it felt like he broke every bone in his face or some shit.

So when it was time for Bret to put the sharpshooter on Lawler, he held him in it for like 7 minutes straight and Lawler couldn't even stand when he got to the back. He was crawlng around

Yeah I believe so. My mistake then, Saturn was who fucked it up and Bell shit it out. Thanks :y:

Bruiser Brody did something simalar to Lex Luger. When Luger first broke in, in florida, he and Brody had a cage match. Brody no sold everything luger did. Flexy Lexy ran out of the cage, scared to death. I have a handheld copy of this its too funny.

LOL. Never heard about that, but that's pretty hilarious. Eye for an eye, or in this case, legs, I guess.

It was when Goldberg was in the middle of his streak or somewhere about that time. Anyway Regal was pissed that Goldberg was getting such a push and decided to go out and highlight Goldberg's weaknesses. So he went out and wrestled Goldberg and made him look pretty bad. Regal was then fired by WCW.

Aussie Skier 05-04-2005 05:22 AM

i reckon a few chris benoit-kevin sullivan matches have been practically shoots

A similar thing happened to Owen Hart, as well. He was fighting Barry Horowitz, who had been in the WWF for years and lost every match he was in. Owen won the match by submission, but the referee reversed the decision and disqualified him as he wouldn't release the hold for like 5 minutes after the bell.

Owen's match looked like a worked finish from where I sit, but if I remember correctly, Bret won the SummerSlam 1993 match by submission and then had the decision reversed and got disqualified because he wouldn't release the hold. I had no idea this incident was a shoot - I thought it was the planned finish to the match. :wtf: :?:

That wasnt a shoot. They were working on that finish at house shows. I went to a house show a month before SummerSlam 93 and Hart faced Owen in the main event. Hart made Owen tap to the Sharpshooter and he didnt let it go. They kept fining him a 5,000 dollars over the loud speaker. Then they reversed the decision. Pretty much a work. Good stuff at the house show too. Best one i've ever been too.

Tatanka was a heel and he faced someone. I forget. It was either Lex Luger or Tinto Santana maybe? Anways, Tatanka spit on my friend. Some douche was heckling the hell out of him and he spit in the crowd right on my friend. We were 2nd row from the ring.

And that's a shoot how?

There isn't really that much evidence of it in the states, in Japan however.......

IYH: Canadian Stampede
Taka Michinoku vs The Great Sasuke

There's a sequence of moves where Sasuke has Taka in the corner, hitting him with punches and kicks. Eventually Taka slumps to the floor in the corner. Sasuke continues kicking him, but Taka appears to at least attempt to block the strikes. As Sasuke moves away, Taka drops his hands only to receive a spinning back kick right in the face.

This is a difficult one for me to judge - if it was a work and not a shoot, then Taka sold it very very well. But the kick looked too hard and too technically correct for it to be a work.

Have you guys seen this match? What do you think?

You seem to forget that Brody had razorblades taped to his hands and some serious murderous intent. Hell, I'd be scared too.

So Bret getting dqed was a shoot or was he supposed to hold it in for like 7 minutes but he just did it mad stiff?

I remember crying in that match because Bret got dqed

Nah it was meant to go down like, I think Bret just held him tighter and longer than originally planned

I don't recall the match, but from what I've heard, Sasuke can be a dick in the ring at times, so it wouldn't surprise me.

Loose Cannon 05-04-2005 11:45 AM

Youell is right. The planned finish was the DQ. But, Bret just held him in the move wayyyy longer then he was going too.

Rob 05-04-2005 12:11 PM

Perry Saturn beat the shit out of jobbers every week near the end of his run. Vito DeNucci was another victim.

Correction on the Goldberg/Regal thing - Regal went public and swore blind (long after he left WCW) that he did exactly what he was told to do by an agent and Goldberg knew what was going on. When they got backstage, Goldberg and Regal shook hands but Bischoff went nuts about the match. When Regal expected the agent to back him up since he told him what to do, the agent sided with Bischoff.
