Best and Worst of the steel cage match

OK i want to hear everyones feedback on this thread. Lets see what cage match everyone believes is the best and which is the worst. It can be any style of cage match: normal cage, Hell in a Cell, Tower of Doom, War Games, etc. To start off with, my pick for the best cage match of all time would have to be WAR GAMES I at NWA's The Great American Bash 1987. It was a great idea created by Dusty Rhodes, who himself participated in the match as well. The idea of settling a feud between two fighting stables within the confines of a two ring two cage match is tremendous. I clearly remember that the first two teams to ever be in WAR GAMES were the Road Warriors (Hawk and Animal) along with Paul Ellering and the Superpowers (Dusty and Nikita Kolloff) faced the Four Hoursemen (Ric Flair, Arn Anderson, Tully Blanchard, Lex Luger, and J.J. Dillon). The promos leading up to the event were great, from the construction to the lowering of the cage in Atlanta's Omni. Now for the worst cage match, i would have to choose the "Chamber of Horrors Thunderdome" match at WCW's Halloween Havoc 1991. The idea behind this match was terrible. If i remeber correctly, the object of this match was to place your opponent in the "Chair of Tortures" (a pathetic excuse for an electric chair) and pull the switch which was located about 10' up on the side of the thunderdome (there weren't any wires even coming out of the box which made the fakeness really obvious). The participants were Sting, the Steiner Brothers, and El Gigante against Abdulla the Butcher, Cactus Jack, The Diamond Studd (Scott Hall), and Big Van Vader. To make the finish of this match even worse, WCW put pyro on the chair and cage which surrounded the chair (which incidentally caught a small part of the ring on fire) which made the "electric Chair" appear to execute the loser stuck in it (in this case it was abdulla who felt the electricity). So now that ive made my choices lets hear what everone else thinks. and

Bret Hart Vs Owen Hart (definently a really good match)

have to think of some more....ill post more later

Supermark101 05-05-2005 01:22 PM

GOD there is so many

Magmun TA/Tully Blanchard
Flair/Rice
War Games 87, 92
Man I know there is more, but I cant think of any.

O Wait THE BUNKHOUSE STAMPEDE FINAL 1988
If you have seen this...I fill your pain. If you havn't.....LUCKY U

Loose Cannon 05-05-2005 01:25 PM

The Euclid Street crew vs Franklin Avenue: Trinity Middle School at 4:00 in 1997 in NY.

5 vs 5 Wargames style match.

Innovator 05-05-2005 01:37 PM

Bret vs. Owen exemplified why a cage is needed. It keeps everyone out of the match and lets the men settle it inside ...THE 15 FOOT HIGH STEEL CAGE.

crash99 05-05-2005 02:01 PM

Bret/Owen was an awesome match, my pick for the best cage match ever, but if we're including hell in a cell, as well, can't forget about undertaker/hbk.

I have one problem with that match. It was a first person out wins match. I HATE that. A cage match is supposed to be 2, or 4, men that need to settle a score. No one gets in, and NO ONE GETS OUT. Owen kind of countered that in a promo he gave before the match. He said Bret was scared of him, and he wouldn't let him run. Still an amazing match though.

Here are some I forgot
Angle/Benoit
Rock and Roll Exprees/The Andersons
Shawn Micheals and Bret Hart had one on a colisum video that was great.

NoRoolz 05-05-2005 02:31 PM

Best: Undertaker V Mankind - K.O.T.R 1998 (Hell in a Cell)

Worst: Al Snow V Bossman - Unforgiven 1999 (Kennel from hell)

Shaved Monkey 05-05-2005 02:41 PM

The HIAC between Taker and Shawn Micheals was pretty damn good. On the other hand the HIAC between Taker and the Big Boss Man was pretty bad, I mean was there even a point in putting them in the cell in the first place?

DAMN YOU FOR MENTIONING THAT

Rammsteinmad 05-05-2005 04:10 PM

Angle and Benoit was a good one. And so was Lesnar and Undertaker at No Mercy 2002.

Kennel From Hell was shit.

Coz it was Wrestlemania? Doesn't matter... that match sucked.

John la Rock 05-05-2005 04:14 PM

Steel Cage - Angle vs Benoit

Hell in a Cell - HBK vs Taker

M. Banana 05-05-2005 04:23 PM

OMFG CAGE MATCHES ROX00RZZ!!

Corndad 05-05-2005 05:07 PM

I remember there was a cage match between Piper and Hogan, thinking how horrible it was. The Nash-HHH Cell sucked in my opinion as well.

I always liked the War Games concept but the good Hell in a Cells were so memorable. the first HBK-Taker/ 6 man for World Title/ Taker-Mankind. All were amazing

jjmoney21 05-05-2005 05:09 PM

Taker-Mankind. HIAC
Taker-Hbk. HIAC

McLegend 05-05-2005 05:30 PM

AMW vs XXX I think is the best cage match of all time.

Savio 05-05-2005 05:46 PM

Austin vs Vince

Worst? um probably Benoit vs Kurt or Austin vs Brothers of desturction.

The CyNick 05-05-2005 06:05 PM

Best: Owen-Bret

Worst: Snow-Bossman

Anybody Thrilla 05-06-2005 01:42 PM

I must say, Mankind vs. Undertaker at King of the Ring in and of itself was NOT a good match. There were just two ridiculous spots that saved the match, and probably the pay per view as well. While it was definitely "HOLY SHIT!", it in no way deserves to be considered as the greatest cage match of all time.

Hell, that Kurt Angle v. Edge cage match on Smackdown a while ago was better than that.

Evolution 05-06-2005 03:08 PM

Best = Bret vs Owen SummerSlam 1994

Worst = Big Boss Man vs Al Snow Unforgiven 1999

Oh, I think the main reason for the Cell for Undertaker vs Big Boss Man was so The Brood and Undertaker could hang the Big Boss Man afterwards.

Jaded-Dragon 05-06-2005 04:46 PM

Worst - Taker vs Big Boss Man HIAC at WM15

As for best, I dunno. The Rock vs Mankind vs Ken Shamrock at Breakdown ranks pretty high up there for me. Bret vs Owen was great also. I'll have to think about some other ones though.

SammyG 05-06-2005 04:49 PM

It doesnt matter what you call it, a hell in a cell, rage in the cage, penis in your anus, the only thing that MATTERS! is that the rock is gonna do what hes gotta do and get BACK his WWF Championship.

Great Rock promo.. armaggedon

RockNRoll 05-06-2005 05:10 PM

Andre vs. Kamala
Andre vs. Hogan
Andre vs. Big John Studd
Big John Studd vs. Hogan
Bundy vs. Hogan
Sgt. Slaughter/Don Kernodle vs. Ricky Steamboat and Jay Youngblood
Randy Savage vs. Jerry Lawler

Way too many to name. There's a million that I have yet to see that I know would make the list. Thanks for the link. Thanks cool.

Xerzes 05-06-2005 10:35 PM

Don't know about "the" worst, but Kane/Snitsky from a few months back was pretty scarily bad. Funny out of the ring or not, once he's in there, Snitsky is just another hoss.

Jacko 05-07-2005 07:53 PM

Hogan vs Orndorf was pretty good.
