Canada just owned the USA..

World Hockey championships bitches.

Sweden are our next victims. Chicken swedes are shaking in their skating boots.

I think it was time some Hockey discussion took place around here.

Ninti the Mad 05-05-2005 04:39 PM

Whooooo!!! I don't know why anybody even shows up to play us anymore.

MoRcHeEbA 05-05-2005 05:12 PM

Canada didn't own them at all... Both teams played like shit Canada just played a little better to win.

PureHatred 05-05-2005 05:24 PM

It's just hockey. If anyone cared, there'd be an NHL season.

are you saying the fans don't care and that's why there's no hockey? :wtf:

Supreme Olajuwon 05-05-2005 05:39 PM

That's ok we're too busy being better at everything else.

People in Canada care.

BCWWF 05-05-2005 07:07 PM

People in Minnesota, Michigan, Colorado, Maine, New Hampshire, and other parts of New England care.

Zen v.W.o. 05-05-2005 07:29 PM

I know we did not really own them today, but that thread title works. Alas, they have both advanced to the next round.

16 teams have started out, 12 remain. Look for Slovakia to be dangerous and surprise a lot of folk.

There's a lock-out because teams can't afford to pay the players' salaries due to a decrease in team revenue. The TV contract is shit. And ticket sales are in the dumper, even in traditional NHL hotbeds like Chicago.

So yes, there isn't a strong enough fan base to keep the NHL alive in its present state. People care. Just not enough.

James Steele 05-06-2005 12:33 AM

I am in Texas and miss hockey. I love me some hockey. Even though I couldn't tell you a damn name of one player or anything, I love watching hockey.

Here's something to keep in mind. Hockey is a 'blue collar' sport. (most are I suppose) With the building of all the new stadiums, the real fanbase that supported teams cannot afford to go to as many games as they used to. Ticket prices are so much higher than they used to be. A sport like baseball for example, you can still get tickets still for 10 bucks or even less. Not hockey. In hockey the cheap seats are like 40 bucks. A parent would have a hard time taking his 1-2 kids to 40 or 30 or 20 games a year. I find once you become frustrated by the fact you can't go to the games, it takes away from your desire to even follow your team on TV. Chicago is in fact the perfect example.

DaveBrawl 05-06-2005 12:55 PM

I'm in Virginia and I miss hockey too. There was nothing like a Detroit vs. Colorado slugfest. :D

Man I miss those days.

Actually, Cuba tends to dismantle us at baseball, but only because we don't let professionals play baseball on the international stage.

And last time I checked, at least our women are the best at soccer.

SammyG 05-06-2005 04:44 PM

Only cool thing bout hockey is the fights

I'm not so sure about that. Yeah, if fighting were removed from hockey, I would complain, however, I think that there are far more "cool" things in the game than fighting alone.

I was thinking more on the lines of being the most powerful empire in the history of the world but yeah I guess we could talk about that stuff too.

samichna 05-06-2005 07:24 PM

I didn't know you were English, Supreme.

I think he was comparing the US to Canada - not the entire world.

BCWWF 05-06-2005 09:37 PM

The Roman Empire was probably stronger IMO, I don't know about the English empire though?

Zen v.W.o. 05-06-2005 09:50 PM

Yeah, the Roman Empire was stronger perhaps, relative to it's time. But of course now that empire wouldn't exactly be on a par with the US I would assume.

road doggy dogg 05-07-2005 09:52 AM

I bet the Canadian hockey team could kick the Roman empire's ass

YOUR Hero 05-07-2005 06:10 PM

Is this turning into a history lesson?

Sweden beat Canada today. Good, I say.

Zen v.W.o. 05-07-2005 06:56 PM

I fucking jinxed them with my arrogant comments. But fuck that shit, they let me down, and for that, they must punish Finland now to regain my total respect. I do not respect losers. I personally blame Morcheeba.

YOUR Hero 05-07-2005 07:21 PM

That was the perfect time for a loss. Gain some focus.

USA owned Sweden today BTW

Loose Cannon 05-09-2005 12:53 AM

how many hockey tourney's are there? Could of sworn Canada just won something.

Zen v.W.o. 05-09-2005 01:03 AM

The int'l tourneys are the world juniors..held in decmeber/january every year.

The world championships which usually only include the players that are not in the playoffs when there is an NHL season, and alot of euro players..which is what is going on right now, cept without the NHL alot of NHLers are partaking this time. This is a yearly thing too.

The World Cup, formerly known as the Canada Cup, which has happened twice this past decade, the USA wining it in 1996, we won it in 2004. Supposed to be every 4 years I think.

The olympics obviously every 4 years.

And then there are euro tourneys like the spengler cup and stuff but nobody really cares about those.

Also the women have some tourneys.

YOUR Hero 05-09-2005 10:43 PM

3-3 tie against the fins yesterday. Come on Canada

Zen v.W.o. 05-13-2005 03:06 AM

Oh yea, so Canada advances..Czechs advance..Swedes, and Russians.

USA, Slovaks, Fins and Swiss have been thumped.

I'm hoping for a Canada-czech final.

I wanna see Jagr man.

BCWWF 05-13-2005 03:32 AM

There is like no coverage of this at all in the US. I hear little bits and pieces because Richard Park is on the Wild and Jordan Leopold is from Minnesota, but besides that I haven't seen it on TV or Sports Center. Granted I haven't been watching a lot lately.

I heard somewhere that ESPN was offered coverage of this for real cheap but didn't pick it up. Hmm

Zen v.W.o. 05-15-2005 12:28 AM

Yeah, the US networks prefer showing off the amazing skills of poker players and dart throwers.

Anyways, Canada beats the Russians today and The czechs defeat the swedes. Jagr gets better as his mullet starts to grow back.

Jagr is still the man.
