Some moves are just dumb...

One such group of moves I'm thinking of is pumphandles. Be it a slam, suplex, or anything else starting with a pumphandle, it just looks dumb. They take to long to set up, and aren't very impressive. What moves do you think are dumb and a waste of time. (And don't bring up moves like the worm/stinkface/people's elbow).

SuperSlim 05-25-2005 06:02 PM

the slingshot. you know when you roll on your back and "slingshot" your opponent into a turnbuckle or somethin. the most retarded move ever created.

Esoteric 05-25-2005 06:04 PM

the airplane spin yeah its supposed to get your opponent dizzy, but wont u get dizzy also.
Also the monkey flip never really liked it

American Dragon used this as a finisher to a match...with 101 revolutions

Cooler Tom Schuler 05-25-2005 06:11 PM

Bearhugs usually look pretty dumb.

Savio 05-25-2005 06:12 PM

Last exit wow its a DDT

Xero 05-25-2005 06:19 PM

The Punch/Boot/Leg Drop combo and alone. It was okay for 80s, and hell, even the early 90s, but once the Cruiserweights came in, it made it look lame. I could understand if Hogan was Yokozuna-sized, I'd call that a legit finisher, but at his size, it's ridiculous to call it devastating, much less for it to win a match or a TITLE with.

Also, the Viscera Hump. :shifty:

carrythezero 05-25-2005 06:19 PM

I agree with the slingshot 100%. Also, Undertaker's "old school" where he walks across the ropes is pretty stupid. It's cool for mark out moments, but it doesn't make much sense.

No, you've got it all wrong. It's not the impact that keeps them down for the three count. The fact is that Hogan is highly skilled, and has learnt exactly where to apply a certain amount of pressure to someone in order to temporarily paralyse them to get the pin.
That's why Hogan can get the pin using the moves he does, despite not being the biggest of people. The reason other people can't use it is because they don't know the exact pressure point to hit, or apply too much/little pressure.

It is not known how he learnt the method he uses as his finisher, but it has been proven time and time again that it's effective.

Shadow 05-25-2005 06:43 PM

How about the Unprettier? Just the amount of time it takes to set up and then hit just irks me.

Does that gap that sometimes appears between their neck/chest and his knee have something to do with it? And what about when he can't reach their face for the Big Boot? Are there multiple pressure/weak points? :shifty:

I don't like the setup to the Unprettier. It's not the length of time that bothers me, it's how he turns them. He sometimes even releases their arms if he can't reach far enough. If he did it with a backup-type setup, I'd love it.

Pepsi Man 05-25-2005 07:00 PM

I dunno, I like the Pumphandle, especially the version of the slam where one guy lifts the other guy up all the way over his shoulder. :o (aka the Meltdown)

Also, Jonster is the man.

Yes, sometimes the pressure needed is so minimal it's caused by the displacement of the air.
Also different people have their pressure points at slightly different points, hence the change in where he hits them.

Gerard 05-25-2005 07:26 PM

Atomic drop\inverted atomic drop. First one cause its just a knee to the ass, second one because its a knee to the nuts but somehow doesn't count as an illegal move. :wtf:

Ruien 05-25-2005 07:47 PM

The sleeper hold. They call it that because it puts the viewers to sleep.

Karlsberg 05-25-2005 08:16 PM

I always thought that the bronco buster was a bit shit, the initial impact was fine but to continue hitting them looks lame as there is little force behind.

Also the stratusfaction and dudley dog are ridiculous it is obvious the person having the move done to them has to lift the other.

 Yeah the bronco buster did have a kinda homoerotic quality to it, having your nuts inches from someones face while bouncing up and down with the optional "yeehaww" thrown in for good measure. :shifty:

I agree with the stratusfaction and the dudley dog as well, opponent just lifts the guy\girl doing the move..nice to see him\her having a helping hand in their own defeat.

Stupidest name for a move imo has to be "sliced bread number 2" seriously WTF :wtf: :wtf: :wtf:

redoneja 05-25-2005 08:30 PM

The Irish Whip- Worst Move Ever

I disagree with Ruien about the Sleeper Hold. A legitimate sleeper WILL render a victim unconscious, it just takes a decent amount of time(if pressure is applied to the sides of the neck).

redoneja 05-25-2005 08:31 PM

Spanky called it "Sliced Bread #2" because it was(is) the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Meh, its similar to the dudley dog but with the move turning into a scorpion death drop.

Aussie Skier 05-25-2005 09:01 PM

pumphandle slam by test is a my least favourite move.
i watched summerslam 1999 the other night, and i reckon thats about the first time i've ever actually seen him pull it off successfully.

also, i hate piledrivers, because, i'm assuming, you can't actually hit their head on the canvas (unless your owen hart), so essentially...ur not doing anything to them right?

redoneja 05-25-2005 09:04 PM

You can actually hit someone's head on the canvas by doing a piledriver, TRUST ME(really bad idea if you don't know what your doing)

KillerWolf 05-25-2005 09:13 PM

moves that normally amount to nothing, but are supposed to be finishers when a particular wrestler does them or puts their own 'spin' on it:

John Cena's shoulder brushing punch
Jonn Cena's F U
the Peoples' Elbow
Statusfaction

The Icon of Elisim 05-25-2005 09:19 PM

Unprettier irks me alot lately. Back in the day it was great cause it looked like Christian actually had the guy locked in and looked like there was a fair amount of impact.

Now he just loosely holds the guys hands and falls down, on the odd chance that he hits it it looks like there is no impact and that the guy just falls down.

MVP 05-25-2005 09:26 PM

Did anybody mention the POOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNNNNNNNNCCCCCCCCCCE

redoneja 05-25-2005 09:31 PM

The Bubba Bomb

Its probably by far the most reversed finisher in the history of wrestling. Ive only ever seen it hit a few times, usually they just drop behind whoevers doing it when they get lifted up.

redoneja 05-25-2005 09:43 PM

Oh yeah I forgot- the X-Factor. Like somebody is going to jump up horizontally when you grab their head.

TerranRich 05-25-2005 09:48 PM

Truthfully...hurricanranas. So you use your legs to flip the guy over onto his back. That's what they do while training to become wrestlers...flip onto their backs.

Innovator 05-25-2005 11:32 PM

Paulie, ever been DDTed in real life? Best finisher in a real fight

BigDaddyCool 05-26-2005 01:12 AM

Oh, and half of Rey's move set, because it just looks so fake, and you can tell the other guy has to help him.

Also, reverse powerbombs, like what Hassan did to Shelton to the guard rail. Those look crappy.

Anybody Thrilla 05-26-2005 01:15 AM

Tajiri's Tarantula is starting to get pretty dumb. Sure, it was kinda impressive the first fifty thousand times, but now it's just like "O....K". It's even dumber in the sense that he can only legally keep it locked in for 4.9 seconds.

Have you ever fallen hard on your ass? Bruised/broken tail bones are a bitch. :'(

Funky Fly 05-26-2005 01:58 AM

The Worm and the Nightmare On Helms Street.

The Buff Blockbuster.

Most neckbreakers.

Russian legsweeps.

Hired Hitman 05-26-2005 02:08 AM

Nip up sounds sexier.... Nipple
