Batista slapped in face?

If Raw is "the flagship show," and Batista is now on Smackdown, is that a slap in the face to Batista?

Volchok 07-05-2005 01:03 PM

No...

Marc the Smark 07-05-2005 01:05 PM

If you were Batista, wouldn't you be pissed or feel a little slighted?

Corkscrewed 07-05-2005 01:18 PM

Then wouldn't all SD! people be like that?

It's sorta one, but it's part of the business, so I wouldn't see it as a big deal. To me, he seems a better fit for SD anyway.

Dave Youell 07-05-2005 01:19 PM

Would i still get paid the same?

Yes

The no i don't care

snakeboss 07-05-2005 01:33 PM

I remember an interview with Batista in January 2005. He totally ripped into Smackdown, insulting the workers and said he found it hard to even watch one match of Smackdown. He's what he said from my memory.

Q: How do you feel about the fact that some fans call Raw the A - Show and Smackdown the B - Show?

BATISTA: We're definately the A-show. I don't know what's going on with those guys on Smackdown, they just don't have the same love for the ring we do. I tried to watch Smackdown once, I couldn't even watch one match, it upset me that these guys weren't putting in the effort we were. It was sad.

-------------------------------------------------------------

So if Batista still feels the same way, maybe he's a big annoyed, but I'm sure he prefers Smackdown now HE'S ON IT.

Chavo Classic 07-05-2005 01:38 PM

Batista doesn't sound like a guy driven by his ego. He sounds fairly mild backstage and is reported to keep himself to himself, so I don't think a move to Smackdown will bother him.

He might even see it as a challenge. After all, he is the WWE Champion and he did just main event wrestlemania and defeat the golden boy HHH - he might see himself as the man who has been asked to turn around Smackdown.

tucsonspeed6 07-05-2005 04:17 PM

To add to what Chavo said, if there's anything that the WWE takes notice of, it's the numbers. Batista's a proven draw with ratings, so I'm sure the WWE knows what they did and it wasn't a slap in the face.

Yeah, that sure doesn't sound anything like PR.

Yeah, they sure did learn from the numbers being bigger when Triple H isn't around, so I gotta agree. I mean, they really push what's popular, and that's why the ratings are attitude era-status.

V 07-05-2005 04:32 PM

It's not a slap in the face, it's a show of respect.

If a show is crap, and someone sends you there, they think you can make it better, they don't ship you there to make your life hell.

Xero 07-05-2005 04:33 PM

Batista has the best of both worlds. He's apparently very good friends with Hunter, and he's the champion on the show that Hunter isn't. At least on SmackDown!, the champion is seen as number one and not the same fucking guy for the last three years.

Corkscrewed 07-05-2005 04:35 PM

^ lol... I was gonna say that.

I do know that when he WAS on SD! last time as the Deacon, that was some of the worst times he's had in wrestling, but that had more to do with his gimmick. He's a main eventer now, so I doubt he'd care too much.

BatistaBomb 07-05-2005 05:00 PM

beaing a huge batista fan obviously i think this is his chance to carry the show on his own and i dont mean SD does'nt have the talent to do so cause hell they have benoit not to mention others

batista is a proven draw and he can make money like crazy and vince knows that so here's his chance to help bring SD back up while cena helps raw stay up

Blanka 07-05-2005 05:43 PM

No.

Nark Order 07-05-2005 06:37 PM

*SPOILERS*

Smackdown blew RAW completely away this week (I was there). Nothing on RAW was even mildly entertining except for the HBK turn. Almost everything on Smackdown ruled. Much better crowd reactions for SD, much better storlines for SD! as well. Also, the Eddie/Mysterio fued is turning into one of the best fueds I've ever seen. SD! may indeed start to slowly best RAW at this point...

PureHatred 07-05-2005 09:48 PM

If you're Batista maybe you feel, because obviously the reason Cena was moved to Raw was because he's more over at this point and a bigger draw.

But in three months, you'll probably still have your title, while Cena will have just jobbed to Triple H twice, Ric Flair once, turned heel, then face, then heel again, got married to Lita and then languishes in midcard hell facing The Coach in a 'rap-off' at Survivor Series.

So maybe Dave looks at the silver lining.

Aussie Skier 07-06-2005 04:59 AM

Basically, IMO, it is inconcievable that HHH can beat Batista now.

so in order for hhh to still main event, he or batista needed to move...and god forbid would they move HHH to smackdown

Londoner 07-06-2005 05:00 AM

I still think the main reason for moving batista was to make HHH look strong on Raw again, i was wondering how they were going to book him now that someone had beaten him three times, now i know how. Cena will job to him soon.

Holy shit, we both said the same thing at the same time!

darkpower 07-07-2005 01:06 AM

I think in that interview he was giving an opinion that is similar to some of the wrestlers there concerning SD's main writer, Dave Laguana. I wouldn't blame him for that comment, because Laquana has got to be, argurably, the worst writer they have in the WWE. However, I think his views may just be changed now that they have a few power hitters other than himself there now. Eddie and Rey have the best feud going in the WWE right now, Randy Orton is on his way to becoming a viable heel in the company, Christian is becoming the top draw he should've been two years ago, JBL's character has quietly caught on as a good one, and whether or not you like him, the Undertaker, full time or not, has proven that he's half-able to get someone over, even if it's Randy Orton and even if it's him picking up a win. Not to mention the Mexicools right now that should end up being a second coming of the Nation Of Domination.

He's on the show that should be the better one right now, and from the mini-spoiler I saw at the top, I hope this is a good omen. Not only do I want the RAW fanboys to be super pissed off, but I would love to see the other show get a chance to get back to the way it was when it first premeired on UPN in 99.

Batsu 07-07-2005 02:13 AM

LOL, well, to be far away from HHH stealing your light is a good thing.

With Smackdown recently robbed of some of its biggest contemporary names, it would be very easy for someone to take transition to Smackdown! as a smack in the face. While I think his prior comments on raw/smackdown were more or less KAYFABE, I can't say whether or not batista feels ripped. However, I think they did the right thing in switching the champions. Neither Cena nor Batista should be stripped at this point, and Cena benefits more from being on Raw. Hopefully he'll ruck the RCC and be a little more Risque on the live cable show as opposed to the taped network show.

At the same time, the title scenes are now kind of fresh. There's quite a few people on both shows now capable of vying against a new champion, even though the champ isn't new. Fresh opportunities for each champ.

It really depends on how you see the glass. This isn't the best situation. IT's far from the worst. Raw is the flagship and SD is the B-Show, so it's not too hard to imagine it as a slap, but Smackdown has always thrived despite the lack of confidence the WWE has displayed in it.

I have more thoughts on the matter but I need sleep because I have a potentially long day tomorrow. If i remember this shit tomorrow, I'll continue my worthless rant.

Amaroqwolf 07-07-2005 03:20 AM

KK anything you say in My Opinion is never worthless. (Shrugs)

That was to be expected, it was the 4th of July which typically does badly in ratings, why waster your A material on a show half the audience is going to watch?

The Mackem 07-07-2005 09:00 AM

OMG Dave, spoilers!

The CyNick 07-07-2005 03:49 PM

Its good and bad for Batista.

On RAW, he was alays going to play second banana to HHH. Whereas on SD, he can definately be the top tog.

On the other hand, SD, especially with the move to Friday is still the "B" show. It might be better a lot of the times, but its still positioned as the "B" show. So in that regard, it is a demotion.
