New Season of Stargate SG-1...*may contain spoilers*
 

Did anyone else see the season premier on Friday? It's insane, they dismantle the whole team, then bring back Daniel and Te'ouk and add the lead actors from Farscape in. Like the captain and his girlfriend that was a peacekeeper. Insanity I say.

Claudia Black is only in it for the first 5 or 6 episodes, and Carter is back after that (since the actress was off having a baby).

Could be a risky season, since they're making a lot of changes. Guess I'll find out for myself when it eventually appears on UK tv in a few months.

Yeah, it looks pretty good, I loved Farscape and so I think the actors they brought in were definately a good choice. Although, what they were thinking with replacing Richard Dean Anderson with Beau Bridges is beyond me.

I will admit though, Beau Bridges and Lou Gosset Jr. add ALOT of credibility to the show.

Notice that Amanda Tapping (Who plays Sam Carter) is listed as a member of the cast, but Claudi Black is listed as a guest appearance. Black is scheduled for something like 8-10 eps (And if he's in the first six, that's most of her appearances right there).

Amanda IS a member of the normal crew, the "dismantling" of the team was simply a gimmick to introduce Ben's character. Teal'c will also be here and there, Chris Judge said himself, as he's trying to balance two worlds. Daniel isn't going anywhere now that the Daedelus has left, so he's coming back.

Tapping (As stated already) was pregnant, and was sheduled to miss the first few eps of shooting. The only one gone for good at this point is O'Neill, and that's because Richard Dean Anderson wanted to spend time with his family.

I doubt Claudia's character will EVER be a proper member of SGC period, since she'd too wild and errattic. However, as a temporary placeholder, she makes the team interesting. She'll end up like the Jaffa Alliance, the Tok'Ra, and so on. Part time characters who fill out the show.

Both SG-1 and Atlantis were kickass last night, so I'm looking forward to this season. I'm just hoping that BRowder's character develops a little more. I understand this is the first time we really see him in any depth, but I was a bit disappointed. Okay, she he's ballsy, and a good pilot. SO WHAT?

On the other hand, it's not like the characters of the original team were fully fleshed out in the pilot, so it's not like I'm saying I hate his character. I just don't have much of a reason to enjoy him...

Technically, they weren't really replacing RDA with Bridges. They needed someone however, to fill in the chain of command. I don't think he fits, but the person who's REALLY replacing O'Neill is Browder, and I'm confident enough in his acting to think he'll do a good job. I don't think his character can replace O'Neill, but I'm sure he can make a name for himself.

O'Neill was only made head of the SGC so they could slowly phase out his character in the first place. It made the transition easier, but I wish they got someone else to fill the role.

On another note, Daniel quits nearly as often as he dies. And given the number of times he's died, that's saying something.

Then of course there's the fact that the Goa'uld are being all but phased out entirely, with a new major villain in place. I presume they'll still hang onto them, but it's about time they got a proper new nemesis.

Saw both eps last night. In my humbly stoned opinion...

Ben Browder really has only one character.

Seriouslly...he's got one. And that's the crazy, ballsy pilot character. Not that I mind him bringing that into SG-1. It's a wonderful escape from RDA's character. And it's also good to see Black and Browder together again though. They've got such wonderful chemistry together. Same with Black and Shanks. So funny how the two of them interact together.

Now if they got Gigi Edgley, Anthony Simcoe, and Virginia Hey to guest...that'd be awsome.

Yeah, I like the lack of an established villain at this point. I've got high hopes for the introduction.

Though it's a shame that they just brought in the Scarabs, just in time for the Goa'uld to fall. (Unofficial nickname for Anubis' Super-Soldiers...)

I can't wait for the Wratih to go away too.

He wasn't that crazy in SG-1 thus far.

Ben Browder was the man in farscape, but not even he can replace MacGyver.

and of course, they've started showing Stargate Atlantis on another channel, and we haven't even seen the start of season 8 sg-1 to see how all this starts up. BLAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Considering the way Channel 4 handle SG-1, I'm surprised anyone ever gets to see it...

They can be bastards, that is for sure.

I'm betting they change that. Even the writers admit they botched it with the Wraith.

No, Anubis isn't technically DEAD, but as long as Oma Desallah still fights him, he can do nothing but fight back. In essence, she has sacrificed herself to take that motherfucker out of the playing field. To most people, it would seem she finally redeemed herself for ascending him in the first place, but I'm betting the other Ascended are gonna sit there like the petty fucks they are.

So he might pop up later, or will they keep fighting forever or something?

Oh they'll dig him up again eventually, I'm sure.

...Unless the new bad guy, the Aurai doesn't go over well.

I mean, unlike other villains, his defeat does not mean conclusive death, so he's ALWAYS a bargaining chip for later seasons.

Nota bad way to go, especially since the Aurai won't go over well with the right wing Christians. Come on, evil false Gods, preaching enlightenment or Damnation?

Oh yeah, they probably worried it'd catch 'em flak.

I'm wondering where this all is going. The followers of the Aurai seem pretty daunting, but so did the Gaoúld.

But the Ori(correct spelling btw KK., I looked it up. ^_^) seem to be alot more daunting than the Goa'uld. I mean...could the snakes evolve humans instantly? Hell no. They could barely create the Scarbs and even those didn't stop a bunch of primitive humans from kicking their asses.

I do think that maybe Daniel has the answer to beat the Ori. After all...he did Ascend once.

Ori...Whatever. Didn't bother looking it up.

The Goa'uld couldn't, but up til then, we had never seen personal defense fields. OR super strong soldiers. Or Giant ships capable of FTL travel. Weapons capable of nigh unlimited firepower.

Plus, the followers of the Ori are powerful, but unless they start coming in numbers greater than one, they will more or less be on par with the Goa'uld. Besides, the Scarabs kicked ass.

Interestingly, there's no real indication as to how much Daniel currently remembers. When the Replicator Carter hacked his brain, he figured out there was still shit in there, but he died, and came back, and while he's got more memory than last time, they haven't touched on whether or not he remembers that it's in there. I doubt the Ancients let him come back with the knowledge of the Ancients, so it'd make sense that they also blocked out the part that told him how to access it. It could end up being something only we, the viewer, know. And RepliCarter and the Ancients, but they're gonna be about as useful.

Danny's on the right track though. Why do they need followers?

Because the Ori want to make everyone Ascend but they want to make it so everyone is grateful to them....

Though if they helped me Ascend....there would be alot of trouble.

Makes little sense, especially since they're not really making people ascend.

Without reading to much of the topic at the risk of spoilers, I haven't managed to catch any of season 9, though I'm not sure if it's being televised in the U.K right now.

But I'm just skeptical of the new season as Richard Dean Anderson isn't apart of the SGC, though I also thought the same when Michael Shanks left (though kept appearing tp O'neill) in season 6.

And I'm yet to see any of Atlantis, but I'm hearing good thing's.

I thought the UK got it before we did, actually.

I'm not too worried about Mitchell replacing O'Neill just yet, since the character's held his own more or less. However...I dunno. Don't have much of an SG-1 feel.

If a little puppet in a floating chair pops up I'm calling this Stargate: Farscape.

The good news is Claudia Black isn't a regular. Just a recurring character.

Her character would wear thin fast.

In fact, it kinda has, what with her one trick pony thing.

I wonder if Dargo could take Teal'c.

Come to think of it, there are a lot of similarities between O'Neill and Crichton. Can't remember how to spell.

By the time the end of the season rolls around we're usually ahead, since we don't have a mid season break like the show does in the US, so we catch up while it's off the air and get a few episodes ahead.

I'll be lucky if I actually see it when it comes on television though, it tends to get shown on Tuesday nights, and I'll be at work then. :'(

Here's something to consider...We've met the gate builders, who are the pyaramid builders? Presumably it doesn't come from the Goa'uld, as they're parasites who essentially assimilate technology and culture. Presumably it's not the Nox, Asgards, or Ancients. That leaves the Furlings and the "Other" category.

What little we've seen of Furling tech doesn't seem too out of step, but not really all that close appearance-wise.

And yet, a lot of what we've seen from the Ori's tech looks visibly similar. Kind of odd.

Also, On Atlantis...They're finally starting to build some real threads. Continuity, plots... It's quickly becoming very interesting. Myself, I ended up in a discussion with Shadow over the nature of the Wraith. IT all hinges on one thing to me...

...The notion that they're going about it wrong. The assumption that the Wraith are bugs that have taken humanoid characteristics, not vice Versa. Ford, and Sheppard (Given the preview for next week) look to be pretty good precedents. So basically, I'm hoping they've got it wrong INTENTIONALLY, as part of actual story hooks.

Not only that, but strong character development for otherwise bland characters. This is building into a good show, so I'm kinda glad I stuck it out.

Well of course they're going about it the wrong way. If they went about it the right way, there wouldn't be much of a show now would there be?

But you are right, Atlantis is definitly tying things together, giving us a reason to like some of the characters, though I still wanna slap the taste outta McKay's mouth, and really proving that this show might last a long time.

Until Stargate gets cancelled at least.

Well keep in mind they usually got things right in Stargate. Or at least, by the end of the show.
