On first thought, that seems like a very weird idea. But on second thought, it actually sounds interesting. How will the bell be rung? Will there actually BE a ref, but outside in an enforcer-type role, except all he has to do is call for the bell to be rung?

I mean, if you made it a no-DQ match, wouldn't it serve the same purpose? The ref doesn't usually break things up in a no-DQ match. I guess the No Holds Barred match already existed, so a no-ref match had to be implemented instead.

The WWE would never have a plot hole, I have no clue how you could get such an asanine idea. Thats like saying they would ramdomly drop a story line, or suddenly have a upper mid-carder cluster-fucked by three mexicans wearing a janitors get up.

Sorry, it's as insane as thinking that a match that can only be won by climbing over the top of a cage could be won by exiting through the door.
